Havana Beach Resort
47/5 Moo 5, Haad Thong Nai Pan, Surat Thani

Havana Beach Resort is a lower-middle-range hotel set on one Koh Phangan's longest and most beautiful white-sand beaches, Thong Nai Pan Yai. The sleepy area is far removed from the island's buzzing nightlife scenes and is best suited to couples and families looking for a low-key beach retreat. The hotel's 50 guest rooms have furnished patios and standard modern amenities like TVs, kettles, mini-fridges, and safes. Unfortunately, rooms also have dated interiors and dingy rundown bathrooms. Facilities are basic and tired looking, with just an outdoor swimming pool and a beachfront restaurant and bar. Indian, Thai, and Western meals are served, as well as regular seafood barbecues on the beach, plus free buffet breakfast. Guests who'd prefer to stay in the center of the action should consider Palita Lodge in Haad Rin.

Longbay Resort
58 / 5 Moo 8, Haad Yao Beach

Longbay Resort is a boutique mid-range property located along Koh Phangan's peaceful northwest coast, on the white sands of Haad Yao Bay. It's geared towards couples and families looking for a low-key place to unwind, and the scenic beach is the main focal point. Facilities include a large outdoor swimming pool with a poolside bar, a multi-cuisine restaurant, a beachfront cabana bar, and a massage hut on the beach. The 31 bungalows have hardwood interiors, and balconies with views of either the tropical grounds, pool, or ocean. Most room types are well maintained, though the entry-level Garden Huts are quite rundown and cramped. Bathrooms are aged and could also do with an update. Another hotel worth considering is the Maehaad Bay Resort, which features stylish contemporary rooms and a gorgeous swimming pool.

Buri Rasa Koh Phangan
55 Moo 5, Thong Nai Pan Noi Beach

The Buri Rasa is smaller (and cheaper) than the other fancy resorts that occupy the beautiful beach at Thong Nai Pan Noi, but it is still an excellent upscale choice for discerning travelers. The property is right by the water and the on-site Beach Club restaurant serves tasty gourmet cuisine. The cobblestone Buri Rasa Village that fronts the property has a bar, cafe, and plenty of charm. Guest rooms are on the small side but are well-designed with rain showers, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi, with some spaces opening out onto the sand.

Pingchan Beach Resort
10 Moo 5, Thong Nai Pan Yai Beach, Ban Tai Subdistrict

Sitting on the pearl-white sands of the serene Thong Nai Pan Yai Beach, a secluded bay on the north-east of Koh Phangan, the three-and-a-half-pearl Pingchan Beach Resort is a tranquil place, far removed from the party scene that draws tourists to Haad Rin and Thong Sala. Each of the resort’s 25 rooms are situated in its own private chalet, which are upscale even if they do not look it from the outside, kitted out with hardwood floors polished to a high sheen, verandahs, little walled gardens, king-size beds, and rainfall showers. The restaurant and beach bar are popular, which is handy because there’s little else nearby. Guests looking for a beach resort closer to Koh Phangan’s nightlife scene might want to look at The COAST resort, near Haad Rin Beach where the Full Moon Party is held.

Maehaad Bay Resort
106/4 Moo7, Mae Haad beach

Maehaad Bay Resort is a mid-range hotel with a clean contemporary aesthetic located along the isolated northwest coast of Koh Phangan. The hotel is overlooking Koh Maa Island (great snorkeling) and a two-minute walk from Mae Haad Beach. Although it's set seafront, the hotel's beach is rocky and not swimmable. The 48 guest rooms have hardwood interiors, spacious bathrooms, and furnished balconies. Two-bedroom Sunset Jacuzzi Suites have kitchenettes and oversized whirlpools, and the Sunset Beachfront Suite features a private plunge pool and ocean views. Facilities include a large swimming pool, a multi-cuisine restaurants and bar, and a gym. Breakfast and Wi-Fi are both free, though the breakfast selection is limited. The nearby Salad Buri Resort & Spa is also worth considering, and has a swimmable beach for water sports.

Phangan Beach Resort
111 Moo 1, Ban Tai

The Phangan Beach Resort sits on the white, powdery sands of Ban Tai beach, the longest on the island. The budget resort is geared towards guests looking to spend lazy days on the beach, which is set up with hammocks and beach beds, or out by the pool. Each of the 25 cabana-style guest rooms is inside its own private bungalow, which are dotted about leafy grounds. However, the bungalows can be poorly maintained, and some of them aren't air conditioned. The bathrooms in standard-class bungalows are ramshackle affairs, inside a lean-to cobbled onto the bungalow’s side. Guests looking for a similar set-up might closer to the Full Moon Party might want to check out the Palita Lodge, on Haad Rin Beach.

Santhiya Koh Phangan Resort & Spa
22/7 Moo 5 Bantai Koh Phangan, Thong Nai Pan Beach

This gorgeous resort just north of Koh Phangan's northeastern Thong Nai Pan Noi Beach is one of the island's top options; only the nearby (and pricier) Anantara Rasananda is more luxurious. But many prefer Santhiya for its quiet hillside location (complete with sweeping ocean views) and the beautiful, intricate wood carvings that characterize its design. The beach here is lovely but small, though a better beach can be accessed on foot within five minutes. Some rooms have swim-up access, and some villas have private pools. The included breakfast buffet spread is impressive, and the main restaurant has great ocean views and hosts theme nights with live music. The upscale spa is quite pricey, but cheap massages can be easily found off-site. Rooms are spread out on the hilly property, so be prepared to walk or wait for a ride in the hotel's shuttles.
