Design Metropol Hotel Prague
Narodni 33

The mid-range Design Metropol Hotel Prague is an affordable choice given its central location, a short walk from Old Town Square. Amenities are limited at this stark and modern hotel, but its bistro offers a free hot breakfast buffet, as well as a full bar and lunch and dinner menus. The rooftop terrace features panoramic views of the picturesque center of Prague. But there is no gym or on-site parking. Its 64 rooms are starkly minimalist, but clean and comfortable. Standard amenities include room service, minibars, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Some rooms on upper floors have terrific views of Prague Castle. For more amenities in an equally convenient location, consider the upscale Design Hotel Josef Prague. But expect to pay a bit more.

Hotel Charles Central
Thamova 26

The three-pearl Hotel Charles Central may do little to wow you with design or amenities, but it adeptly covers basics throughout its mostly bland, functional 48 guest rooms, with a bonus balcony here and there. Plus, the once derelict neighborhood itself is the definition of up and coming, having been extensively restored in the past decade and welcoming an ever-growing number of young, hip professionals and all the attending restaurants, pubs, and cafes (cat cafe included). Perhaps best of all, Prague Old Town is only two metro stops away. Renovations of the nearby riverbank also added biking and hiking trails. To be closer to the buzz of Prague and add a touch more design flair, check rates at one of three Ibis hotels, in Mala Strana, Old Town, and Wenceslas Square.

Michelangelo Grand Hotel Prague
Vladislavova 1477/20

With 136 rooms in the center of Prague 1, this three-pearl Neoclassical hotel is more about great value in a prime location than offering anything noteworthy on-site. It's within a 10-minute walk to Wenceslas Square. The historic building is charming. Rooms come with minibars, bathtubs, and flat-screen TVs; note that some rooms have tiny windows. Amenities are limited to free breakfast buffet, free Wi-Fi, and three meeting rooms. Rates here are hard to beat, but for slightly higher prices, the equally central Elite Hotel nearby is also historic, but has more charm and a restaurant and spa.

Jalta Boutique Hotel
Vaclavske Namesti, 45

The Jalta Boutique Hotel is an upscale 94-room property with a prime New Town location on Wenceslas Square. The hotel’s well-regarded Como Restaurant and Cafe serves Mediterranean and Asian cuisine, as well as Czech specialties, and a buffet breakfast that's included in the room rate. Rooms, which either overlook Wenceslas Square or an alley, come with satellite TV, coffeemakers, and L'Occitane toiletries, but some are a bit tired-looking. Travelers searching for a more luxurious property with more romantic ambience and similar rates can try the Pachtuv Palace, which has views of the Charles River. Boutique Hotel Jalta guests do get free admission to the Cold War Museum, housed in a former nuclear fallout shelter underneath the hotel.

Central Hotel Prague
Rybna 8

As its name suggests, the best thing about the Central hotel is its prime location in the center of Prague. The value hotel is only a five-minute walk from the Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock Tower. The hotel serves a free breakfast buffet daily that includes hot and cold items, and there’s a bar on-site serving cocktails and cappuccinos. The rooms are a bit drab and dated in style, but some top-floor rooms have balconies with rooftop views. Guests who don't mind staying farther from the city's main sights should compare rates with the Anna Hotel, a family-run boutique hotel with a welcoming atmosphere and comfortable beds.

Hotel Pav
Kremencova 13

The Best Western Hotel Pav is a standard mid-range chain hotel within walking distance of several of Prague’s major sights. It’s less than a 20-minute walk from the Old Town Square and only a 10-minute walk from the Charles Bridge. The 89 rooms are clean and modern, with an understated, Scandinavian-style color palette and a simple aesthetic standard for this caliber of chain hotel. In addition to the extensive free breakfast buffet, there's a charming little bar that serves coffee and drinks throughout the day. Prospective guests might want to compare rates with the often similarly priced Grandior Hotel Prague, a luxury hotel that opened in 2014 with lots of amenities.

Green Garden Hotel
Fugnerovo namesti 1865/4

The Green Garden Hotel is a three-pearl property located in Prague's New Town, a 15-minute walk from Wenceslas Square and near the metro. Housed in a beautiful Art Nouveau building, the style here is a little old-fashioned, but the hotel is a decent place to bed down for a few nights. The 60 rooms are pleasant and spacious, and include flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. The restaurant serves all three meals, and there's a bar for a nightcap. A spa area includes a sauna and massage treatments, and is a surprising addition for a hotel in this category. Rates are competitive, but travelers who'd prefer a trendy locals-only neighborhood and more modern style might consider the pentahotel Prague instead, a 10-minute tram ride from the Old Town.

Smetana Hotel
Karoliny Svetle 34

Pachtuv Palace is an elegant four-pearl hotel in a prime Old Town location, housed in a 17th-century Baroque palace. Its 50 guest rooms are refined and attractive but not overly lavish, with traditional chandeliers, four-poster beds, and formal drapery. All units are well-equipped with AC, kitchenettes, minibars, espresso machines, flat-screen TVs with DVD players, bathrobes, L'Occitane products, and free Wi-Fi. Facilities are limited, and the focus is on dining and drinking, with a Czech-French fusion restaurant, a cafe, and a cigar club that occupies the residence's former chapel. Travelers willing to spend more for a luxurious hotel with extensive amenities might consider the Four Seasons Hotel Prague.

Hotel Selsky Dvur
K Horkam 47/56

The 30-room, upper-middle-range Hotel Selsky Dvur is a marriage of two opposite styles. Extensive renovations in 2013 have introduced a sleek, modern look to the guest rooms with a rustic medieval building. While not exactly in harmony with its surroundings, rooms are sophisticated and equipped with modern amenities like flat-screen TVs, minibars, and air-conditioning. Features include a spa (for a fee), an Old World restaurant, free breakfast, and wedding and event facilities. One downside is the location; it's not great for exploring Prague, though it offers a quiet, green setting. For another boutique-style property closer to the city center, travelers could consider the Mamaison Riverside Hotel Prague.

Hotel Josef
Rybna 20

The upscale Design Hotel Josef Prague is a modern boutique property that’s a short walk away from Old Town Square and other top attractions. It’s chock full of amenities, including a sleek lobby bar and a spacious fitness center with a sauna. An excellent breakfast is enhanced by an on-site bakery -- but it's only free to those booking through the hotel’s website. Another drawback: The hotel lacks any lunch or dinner service. Its 109 guest rooms are modern and stylish, outfitted with Nespresso coffeemakers and mini-fridges. Many have striking all-glass bathrooms, though a few guests find this lack of privacy unappealing. Rates are competitive for the central location, but the upscale Hotel Three Storks is a good alternative, with modern rooms and a location near Prague Castle and Charles Bridge.
