Hotel Le Burgundy

A beautiful hotel in a highly-desired location near the Tuileries Gardens, the 59-room Hotel Burgundy offers an upscale experience. There’s a renowned fine-dining restaurant on-site with a seasonally changing menu, as well as a chic bar serving tapas. The full-service spa has a sauna and hammam, and there's also a lovely indoor pool and tiny fitness room. Some guests complain of meager free breakfast offerings, however, as well as heavy use of perfume and incense throughout the property. Rooms and suites feature chic, classic decor and a sundry of amenities -- plus guests can order romance packages with extras like champagne and massages. Luxury comes at a steep price, however, and travelers might want to compare rates with the nearby Castille Paris; also a luxury spa, Castille is less expensive -- but lacks a spa.

Maison Malesherbes

The HappyCulture brand aims to channel Belle Époque spirit and frivolity into its design, with a bevy of rich colors, floral patterns, and vintage accoutrements, and the three-pearl Maison Malesherbes does exactly that throughout its common areas and 24 guest rooms. While it isn't totally off the beaten path, the hotel's 8th Arrondissement location isn't the best for tourists who want to stay within walking distance of top sights. Design mostly outruns the amenities, with major features limited to breakfast for an extra charge, a stylish cocktail lounge and espresso bar, and free Wi-Fi throughout. Nonetheless, HappyCulture's seduction mostly succeeds, especially in the splashy bedrooms, all of which have AC, flat-screen TVs, and electric kettles. For accommodations closer to Gare Saint-Lazare, check out Hotel WO – Wilson Opera, which often has similar rates.

Ritz Paris
15 Place Vendome

The Ritz Paris is quite possibly the most famous hotel in the world. The legendary property has attracted a roster of celebrity guests since its star-studded opening in 1898; Coco Chanel lived here for nearly 35 years and the hotel was a preferred Paris hideaway of Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald. After closing for four years for a full-scale, $450 million revamp and reopening in 2016, the Ritz has returned to its original, Old World glory. The Ritz' excellent restaurants and bars -- including the memorabilia-stuffed Hemingway Bar -- are destinations unto themselves. The same is true for the hotel's spa -- the first and only Chanel spa in the world -- and the gourmet cooking school, Ecole Ritz Escoffier. The 142 rooms are nothing short of exquisite, with stunning neoclassical decor and Italian marble bathrooms. The Ritz is truly beyond compare, but for a palatial stay that's less of a tourist attraction, check out the equally luxe but far more intimate La Reserve Paris.

Le Petit Chomel

The 23-room Le Petit Chomel is a charming, mid-range, boutique hotel with colorful decor that feels at once homey and fresh. Well-located in Paris' 7th Arrondissement, the hotel is walking distance to the metro, the Seine, and luxury shops, restaurants, and Parisian hotspots. Rooms are individually decorated, spotless, and comfortable (though often small) and feature flat-screen TVs, minibars, and modern bathrooms, though there's no in-room coffee and tea service. The hotel has few extra property features, but the lobby/lounge and breakfast nook are charming hangouts. Breakfast costs an extra fee, but Wi-Fi is free. For the location, prices here are hard to beat. The mid-range Derby Eiffel Hotel offers less interesting decor, but it's walking distance from the Eiffel Tower and has lower rates.

Hotel Atmospheres
31 rue des Ecoles

Hotel Atmospheres is a mid-range boutique hotel located in Paris' Latin Quarter, near the Pantheon, Notre Dame, and the metro. The 56 soundproofed units include rooms with slippers and minibars and eight individually decorated suites with bathrobes and Nespresso machines. Guests have the option of adding on breakfast, a buffet with scrambled eggs, sausage, and more. The hotel has an honesty bar in the lobby and a free fitness with a sauna and hydro-massage bed. For a more upscale pick in the same area, look into the uber-romantic Hotel Baume, though prices can be quite a bit more.

Hotel Baume
7 rue Casimir Delavigne, 6th Arr.

This sophisticated and romantic boutique hotel is a stone's throw from the Odeon Theater and the Palais de Luxembourg. Hotel Baume cultivates a glam 1930s-inspired atmosphere with a sleek color palette of soft grays, pinks, black, and muted gold. Crushed velvets, damasks, and vintage-style mirrors create an Art Deco-era boudoir feel in the 35 rooms and suites, which come with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and, in many, Nespresso machines. An honor bar in the lobby, a glassed-roofed breakfast area, and a petite courtyard are the only common areas to speak of. For a nearby pick with quaint Parisian charm (and lower rates), check out Hotel le Clos Medicis.

Hotel Etoile Saint-Honore

The Hotel Etoile Saint-Honore by HappyCulture is an upscale, 85-room hotel set in an unexceptional modern block two blocks from the Champs-Élysées. Interiors are a pleasant blend of tasteful contemporary decor and neo-classical flourishes, and rooms are spacious for Paris -- though poor internal soundproofing can be an issue. Multiple breakfast options are excellent, though you might have to pay -- minibars and Wi-Fi are free, however. Overall it's not perfect but rates are certainly very competitive for a hotel of this caliber, especially if you can bag a top-level room with a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower.

Sevres Saint Germain Hotel

Housed inside a 17th-century building, the mid-range Sevres Saint Germain Hotel has retained many of its historic details, including a row of street-lamp-style glass lights that hang from the building. The lobby ceiling exposes the original wooden beams, and the 30 rooms display similar vintage woodwork that mixes with traditional and contemporary furniture. Rooms are compact, but they include flat-screen TVs, minibars, safes, free newspapers, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms have modern fittings and shower/tub combos, but the marble tile could use a refresh. The hotel is a two-minute walk to Le Bon Marche department store, and an 11-minute walk to the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Pres, with its famous cafes and Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Pres. Travelers might want to also consider the Legend Hotel by Elegancia, which has a more modern and playful decor but slightly higher rates.

Sofitel Paris Le Faubourg
15, rue Boissy d'Anglas

Occupying two private mansions from the 19th century, Sofitel Paris Le Faubourg offers haute couture-themed luxury in the very fashionable 8th arrondissement. Its 147 rooms and suites have a mix of designer decor and period details, as well as luxe amenities like LED flat-screen TVs, minibars, and feather-topped custom beds. Features include a classic French restaurant, an all-day bar/lounge for cocktails and Champagne, and wellness and business facilities. The enviable location between Place de la Concorde and Faubourg Saint-Honore is ideal for both business travelers and tourists. Those seeking luxury accommodations and even more features, including Michelin-starred dining, a full spa, and a pool, may prefer Le Bristol Paris, though starting rates there are higher.

Four Seasons Hotel George V
31 avenue George V

Located in one of Paris' most prestigious neighborhoods, Four Seasons Hotel George V is a flawless Champs-Elysees property with exceptional service. Its 244 rooms and suites start at 400 square feet -- a remarkable size for Paris -- and feature minibars and all-marble bathrooms. Other highlights include three Michelin-starred restaurants, nine ballrooms, a sophisticated hotel bar, and a jaw-dropping spa with an indoor heated pool and steam rooms. Despite all this splendor, it is the superb service -- including airport pick-ups, round-the-clock room service, and chauffeured limousines -- that garners the most praise from guests. Of course, rates reflect the sumptuous environment and impeccable service; even starting rates inch toward quadruple digits. For a fraction of George V's cost, Hotel Keppler offers Pierre-Yves Rochon interiors (the same designer behind Hotel George V) and a boutique atmosphere.
