Hotel Esperance
Rue du Finistere 1-3

Esperance is a budget-friendly, boutique property situated in a historic 1930s building with a charming Art Deco tavern in lieu of a lobby. The tavern, which is open until late, features period details like geometric stained glass windows and a parquet floor. Breakfast is offered here in the morning for an extra fee. Individually decorated rooms range in style, but tend to be small and simple with modern decor and compact bathrooms, some featuring showers with transparent windows facing into rooms. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi, but there's no coffee/tea service or air-conditioning. Studios, located in a nearby building, feature kitchenettes and elevator access, which the main property lacks. For an elevator and AC, the nearby Maxhotel will do the trick, though the property lacks the character of Esperance.

NH Collection Brussels Grand Sablon
Rue Bodenbroek 2 - 4

The 196-room, mid-range NH Hotel Du Grand Sablon is a good choice for both business guests and tourists. It’s in a beautiful, cobbled square within walking distance of the business district and has a large meeting and conference space on-site. The rooms are a mixed bag, as some have been updated and are fresh and modern, while others are due for renovation. Construction on remaining rooms is due to start in June 2015, and will be done 20 rooms at a time.

MAS Residence
Rue de Spa 14, Quartier Européen

MAS Residence is a three-and-a-half-pearl boutique hotel that specializes in apartment-style rooms. Long-term travelers are attracted to the hotel for its 20 simple and spacious apartments with flat-screen TVs, living rooms, and kitchenettes with stocked refrigerators. Common areas are elegant, but lack features such as a restaurant, gym, spa, or business amenities. There’s not much in the surrounding area besides government buildings (a draw for business travelers), though it’s still within walking distance to the city center. As an alternative, The Hotel – Brussels doesn’t have apartments, but it does provide free minibars, a gym, a spa, and a restaurant on-site at similar rates.

Hilton Brussels Grand Place

Across from Central Station, the upscale Hilton Brussels Grand Place is exceptionally well-located in the heart of Brussel's historic city center between the Grand Place and the Square Meeting and Convention Center. The 224-room hotel has an on-site restaurant and bar, a 24-hour-fitness center, 17 meeting rooms, two ballrooms, and a dedicated concierge and foreign-currency exchange. Guests opting for Rooms and Suites with Executive Lounge access get free breakfast and snacks and drinks throughout the day. While the lobby, with its marble and parquet floors, gold-filigree chandelier, and floor-to-ceiling windows, is regal and elegant, the guest rooms, some yet to be renovated, are more chain-hotel standard than palatial. But all rooms include minibars, coffeemakers, 42-inch flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. For a smaller property with more local charm, travelers should check out the nearby Hotel des Galeries.

Chelton Hotel

The mid-range Chelton Hotel is not right in central Brussels, but it's within a 20 minutes' metro ride of most major tourist attractions. Nearby is the verdant Parc du Cinquantenaire (Jubelpark) and the European Parliament, a boon for business travelers. All 50 rooms have wooden desks, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel's biggest draw, besides the convenient location for business travelers, is its spacious roof deck with plenty of seating and nice city views. Note that complaints have been made about the Wi-Fi and how dim some rooms are. The neighborhood has a dozen-odd hotels that offer plenty of alternatives; one is the 10-room Hotel Satellite, just four minutes away on foot. Satellite has similar amenities, plus in-room coffee and tea making facilities.

Thon Hotel Eu
Rue De La Loi / Wetstraat 75

Located in the European Quarter of Brussels, the upscale Thon Hotel EU caters primarily to business travelers during the week and tourists on the weekend. Interiors are a contrasting mix of pale-wood panels, stone tiles, and Day-Glo colored furniture. Its 405 rooms have modern Scandinavian-style decor with shiny surfaces and clean lines, and include mini-fridges, safes, and LCD TVs. The on-site restaurant serves innovative continental cuisine, and a breakfast buffet is available for a fee. A gym and 10 conference rooms are also available. Travelers seeking a hotel near the city's European Quarter should also consider the Aloft Brussels Schuman Hotel, which has forward-thinking design and similar amenities at comparable rates.

Four Points by Sheraton Brussels
Rue Paul Spaak 15

The 128-room Four Points by Sheraton Brussels is an upper-middle-range chain hotel that's slightly removed from the city center, situated in a quiet area close to lots of shops and restaurants and well serviced by public transportation. Rooms are simple and clean, if a bit dated, and have coffee- and tea-making facilities, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Features include a small fitness center with a sauna and a large rooftop garden, as well as a restaurant and lobby bar. The property attracts a good deal of business travelers, many of which are repeat guests, with its ample meeting facilities and good road connections to the business district. For something more centrally located, travelers might want to consider the Scandic Hotel Grand Place or the Hotel La Legende.

NH Brussels EU Berlaymont
Karel De Grotelaan 11 - 19 Boulevard Charlemagne

Located in the heart of the European district in the shadow of the mammoth Berlaymont building which houses offices of the European Commission and just steps away from the European Council, this mid-range caters to business travelers. It has 212 rooms spread out over two buildings, some of which are dated and in need of refurbishment, however, the hotel will close for two months in July 2017 to complete room updates. The city’s major tourist sights are not in walking distance of the hotel but the city center is only four metro stops away. The worn rooms and slow Wi-Fi may not make this hotel as good a value as others in the area like Thon Hotel EU and Hotel Martin’s Brussels EU which are only slightly more expensive.

Bedford Hotel & Congress Centre
Rue du Midi 135-137

The mid-range Bedford Hotel & Congress Center is a centrally located business hotel with perks including a free buffet breakfast and free, but not always reliable, Wi-Fi. Its 310 rooms have a warm atmosphere, with basic (and sometimes worn) decor, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and work desks. However, they lack tea- and coffee-making facilities and there have been reports of noise and cleanliness issues. Facilities include a restaurant and bar and a number of meeting rooms. There’s also a fitness center with lovely views, but dated machines. For a fresher, more up-to-date property, travelers may prefer the Pantone Hotel, although it lacks a restaurant or fitness center.

Steigenberger Wiltcher's
Avenue Louise 71, Ixelles

The large, upscale Steigenberger Wiltcher's oozes luxury and elegance. The 267 rooms and suites are spacious, tastefully decorated, and comfortable. Located on the trendy Avenue Louise, there are a range of restaurants and shops nearby and the business district is close by, too. With two restaurants, two bars, a fitness room, and a business center, the Steigenberger Wiltcher's has plenty to offer guests, but the high fees for breakfast, and to use the pool and spa might put some people off of staying here.
