Hotel des Galeries

The upper-middle-range Hotel des Galeries is in a mid-19th century heritage building, a short walk to one of Brussels' main railway stations, the metro, and many top attractions. The hotel's star feature is its airy French-Belgian restaurant run by a Michelin-starred chef. Its 23 guest rooms are minimalist but homey, though owing to the age of the building, not all have air conditioning. Rooms are fairly Zen with their white walls and white linens, but color reigns supreme in the bathrooms, which are tiled in vibrant shades of green. Rare is the boutique hotel with these rates and central location, but nearby Hotel Saint-Gery is similar; though not renovated as recently and lacking a restaurant, it does have full AC and is less expensive.

Marivaux Hotel
Boulevard Adolphe Max 98

A former movie theater, the Marivaux is now a mid-range, 96-room hotel. There are nods to the building’s cinematic history throughout the decor and it has a well thought-out mix of old and new furnishings. Guests can choose between modern and traditionally furnished rooms, all of which have air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi. The Marivaux has a good restaurant and bar, a modern fitness center, and a range of business facilities. It's centrally located and within walking distance of many major sites, but guests with cars will have to pay extra to park on-site. It may also be worth considering the similarly priced NH Brussels Grand Place Arenberg.

9Hotel Sablon
Rue de la Paille 2

The upper-middle-range 9Hotel Sablon is a stylishly modern boutique hotel that’s centrally located in the Sablon quarter. It’s on a quiet side street, yet within walking distance of many of the city’s top attractions, as well as the Central Train Station and the Square – Brussels Meeting Centre. Amenities are a mixed bag: There's a hot and cold breakfast buffet and a self-service lobby bar open 24/7, but no full restaurant. Likewise, the hotel has a striking, subterranean relaxation area with a sauna, pool, whirlpool, and changing rooms, but no fitness facilities. Rooms are bright and clean-lined, with swanky amenities such as Nespresso coffeemakers, mini-fridges, robes/slippers, and glass walk-in showers. Rates are competitive, but the nearby, upscale Hilton Brussels Grand Place offers more amenities with comparable rates on many dates.

Hotel a la Grande Cloche
Place Rouppe 10

This four-story budget hotel in a restored 19th-century building is located on a charming square in central Brussels, under a 10-minute walk to popular tourist sights like the Grand Place and Manneken Pis, and a 15-minute walk to Brussels Midi train station, the terminus for international trains. The 37 rooms are clean and many are modestly decorated in neutral tones of gray and beige; some, however, have shared bathrooms and look quite dated, despite renovations in 2013. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, phones, and tea- and coffee-making facilities, but no mini-fridges. It's a decent value overall, but it's worth comparing rates with The Residence Les Ecrins or the trendier Motel One, which sometimes aren't much pricier.

NH Collection Brussels Centre
Boulevard Adolphe Max 7

Most NH Collection properties straddle the line between business- and tourist-friendly, and this three-and-a-half-pearl one is no exception. Renovated in 2015, the 241 rooms are modern, albeit a bit corporate, outfitted with espresso machines, flat-screen TVs, and separate showers and baths. Belonging to a commercial chain, guests have access to a larger and well-equipped gym. The addition of a burger restaurant on-site, as well as a gorgeous dining terrace on the ninth floor makes eating here a tempting option; however, the dining room is a bit bland. The location is great, but guests wanting a more boutique feel at a reasonable price should look into the fun Pantone Hotel, though it's in a quiet, residential area.

Motel One
Rue Royale 120

The 489-room Motel One is a modern mid-range property located in a convenient downtown location that's within walking distance of several sights as well as the business district. Rooms are small and contemporary, with comfortable beds and modern bathrooms with rainfall showers; some have private balconies, though amenities are limited to flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. Trendy common spaces include the One Lounge with a bar and breakfast area, as well as a large, furnished outdoor terrace. All in all this is a terrific value and exceptionally stylish for this caliber, but travelers might want to compare rates with Hotel NH Brussels Grand Place and Ibis Brussels Off Grand Place Hotel.

Husa President Park
Boulevard du Roi Albert II 44, Brussels

Located on the edge of the city center near Brussels North railway station, the upper-middle-range Husa President Park is situated in a business district bordering a more run-down area of town. The 297 guest rooms are spacious and have large windows that let in lots of natural light; however, some lack air-conditioning. This business-oriented hotel has three levels of conference facilities with a total of 18 meeting rooms. A restaurant, lounge bar, and fitness center are also on hand, and underground parking is available for a fee. Travelers looking to do some sightseeing may prefer the Bedford Hotel & Congress Centre, which has a more central location a six-minute walk from the city's main square.

Theater Hotel
Rue Van Gaver 23

The Theater Hotel is a no-frills, budget property located in Brussels' red-light district -- a problem for some guests, though it's just a two-minute walk from public transit and a 15-minute walk from the city center. Its 46 rooms, which can accommodate two to four guests, are spacious and fairly clean, though they're simple with some wear and tear. Flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and en-suite bathrooms are standard, and many suites feature kitchenettes, but the usual perks, like electric kettles and AC, are missing. The hotel has a bright breakfast room, and a daily buffet is available for an extra fee, but there are few other property features. If the location in the heart of the red-light district is a deal-breaker, travelers could consider the Hotel Queen Anne, an affordable property with similar amenities.

Warwick Brussels
Rue Duquesnoy 5

The Warwick Brussels is a luxury landmark hotel located right in Brussels' city center, just a two-minute walk to Central Station and Grand Place. The hotel has a restaurant and bar, as well as a fitness center, sauna, and meeting facilities, though it lacks other features commonly found in luxury properties like a spa or pool. Its 267 rooms and 16 suites are equipped with all the amenities expected of a luxury hotel, including flat-screen TVs, minibars, coffeemakers, marble bathrooms, and 24-hour room service. Upper-category rooms have luxurious extras like Nespresso machines. However, past guests have complained of street noise, thin walls, poor maintenance, and signs of wear and tear. Potential guests should note that the hotel is scheduled for rebranding in 2016. Travelers may prefer the Rocco Forte Hotel Amigo, which has a fresher, more up-to-date look.

Floris Arlequin Grand Place
Rue de la Fourche 17 - 19

The Floris Arlequin Grand’Place is a value hotel located in central Brussels near transport, restaurants, shopping, and popular attractions. The 92 rooms are dated to varying degrees (depending on the room), and some have minibars and kettles. There have been reports of cleanliness and maintenance issues, as well as bothersome noise complaints on lower floors. Perks include a breakfast room with panoramic views of Brussels, an art-house theater in the same building, meeting rooms, and a public computer. There's no restaurant, but there is a small fitness center with dated machines. While it's a great value, it might be worth also checking the prices at the Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre, which has more up-to-date decor and far more amenities.
