Days Inn by Wyndham Washington DC/Connecticut Avenue
4400 Connecticut Avenue NW

The 155-room Days Inn Washington, DC - Connecticut Ave. is a no-frills, budget hotel with some of the lowest rates in D.C. While it isn't fancy or centrally located, it's a popular pick for international business travelers, as a dozen embassies are within walking distance. Budget travelers may also be drawn here for the prices, but downtown attractions are a 20-minute subway commute away. This property is home to an adjoining Italian restaurant and bar, plus an on-site business center and meeting space. Rooms are pleasant with sunny yellow walls, big flat-screen TVs, and basic coffeemakers. For a slightly pricier option that’s closer to downtown, guests should consider the Holiday Inn Washington-Central/White House, which has an outdoor pool and fitness center.

Hotel Harrington
436 11th Street Northwest Northwest Washington Washington

The 242-room Harrington Hotel is a two-pearl option located in the Penn Quarter, just a two-minute walk from historic Ford’s Theater. Decor is dated throughout, and you'll see wear and tear in the rooms, which feature air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Harrington’s has a choice of three restaurants on-site -- including well-liked Harry's Pub -- but breakfasts are not included in the room rates. Otherwise, features are limited to a laundry room and a gift shop. Prices are decent for the area, but visitors who don’t mind trading restaurants for an indoor pool and free breakfast might try the nearby Hampton Inn, where rates are slightly higher.

The Beacon Hotel

Geared primarily towards business travelers, the Beacon Hotel has an excellent location between Dupont Circle and the corporate offices in downtown D.C. Property highlights include a stylish restaurant, 24-hour fitness center, and apartment-style suites with kitchens. Guests may be disappointed with the Standard Rooms, which are small for the price and lacking in amenities (no free Wi-Fi, minibars, or microwaves). Travelers should also consider the Courtyard Washington Embassy Row (half a block away and similarly priced), which features a swimming pool and free Wi-Fi. Still, this is a good value overall for an upper-middle-range property.

Phoenix Park Hotel

Only four blocks from the U.S. Capitol, the Phoenix Park Hotel is an ideal property for travelers meeting with members of Congress or simply wishing to be near the city's historic Capitol Hill neighborhood. It's an upper-middle-range boutique property with 149 rooms and suites (generally spacious, but a few are tiny). It completed a major renovation in late 2016 and offers polished accommodations along with a nice selection of features including a small fitness center, basic business services, extensive meeting space, and free Wi-Fi. The renowned Dubliner Irish Pub is also attached to the hotel. Union Station is nearby for easy access to Amtrak and the Metrorail's Red Line. For travelers wanting a more traditional hotel with added services -- such as 24-hour room service and a pool -- the Hyatt Regency is a nearby option..

Washington Marriott Georgetown

This lively and colorfully decorated Marriott has an inviting lobby, large airy rooms, ample amenities, and a convenient location between Foggy Bottom and Dupont Circle. The service is a bit spotty, but otherwise a fine mid-range choice.

West End part of the Georgetown Collection
1121 New Hampshire Ave Nw Nw

Completely renovated and reopened in 2017, the Georgetown Inn West End is a 76-all-suite, two-and-a-half-pearl property in the West End. Spacious rooms have efficiency kitchenettes and seating areas alongside decor that's tasteful and modern. There’s no pool or fitness center, but the hotel offers free access to a nearby gym. A hot-and-cold buffet breakfast is included in rates and the hotel offers grocery delivery services. Nearby attractions including George Washington University, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and historic Georgetown. The hotel is also walking distance from two Metrorail Stations: Dupont Circle (Red Line) and Foggy Bottom-GWU (Orange, Silver, and Blue Lines). Prices are fair for D.C., but guests looking for an on-site gym, restaurant, and pool might try the nearby Hilton Garden Inn

Washington Court Hotel

The Court boasts a location near Union Station and the Capitol. But if you're visiting D.C. for fun, there's little reason to stay in this part of town, which is sleepy by day, desolate by night. If you're doing business on the Hill, we prefer similarly priced The Liaison.

Capital Hilton

The Hilton boasts a central location two blocks from Lafayette Square (behind the White House) and some nice features -- spa, huge gym, 30,000 square feet of meeting space, and rooms that were renovated in 2010. In addition to the Statler Lounge, a restaurant serving contemporary American cuisine at lunch and dinner, in late 2011 the North Gate Grill opened, serving all-American fare with an emphasis on home-style and farm-fresh quality. The latter is open for brekkie, lunch and except Sundays, dinner.

Hilton Garden Inn Washington DC/US Capitol

Built in 2011, this modern Hilton Garden Inn is located one block from the metro in Washington’s up-and-coming NoMa neighborhood, just north of Union Station and Capitol Hill. Contemporary rooms and plentiful property features -- including an indoor pool, fitness center, restaurant, and 24-hour convenience store -- make this hotel a solid value for the area. Tourists interested in sightseeing may prefer Hilton Garden Inn Washington DC Downtown, which is walking distance to The White House, Smithsonian museums, and National Mall.

The Westin Washington, D.C. City Center

Renovated in 2014, this upscale 406-room Westin is a solid but unspectacular business hotel in the heart of Washington, D.C. Its best feature is its rooms, which come with comfy beds, great showers (option of rain, dual, and wand showerheads), and coffeemakers with Starbucks coffee. Other highlights include a nice fitness center and full-service restaurant. Guests should also consider Hamilton Crowne Plaza, which is closer to the subway and has more historic flavor.
