InnSight

Hidden inside an apartment building above restaurants and retail shops, the eight-room InnSight is a budget property occupying a great location in Tsim Sha Tsui. Inside, the hostel is cramped, though cozy, with a common room that pulls triple duty as a guest kitchenette, TV lounge, and reception desk. Rooms are lovingly decorated with individually painted wall art and private bathrooms, though some can be quite small. There's no restaurant or bar on-site, nor is breakfast included. Budget travelers might want to consider the nearby Hop Inn as well, a comparable property that also offers private rooms at affordable rates.

Kowloon Shangri-La Hong Kong
64 Mody Road Tsim Sha Tsui East, Kowloon

This luxury hotel lives up to the Shangri-La brand's stellar reputation, but there are a few small details that prevent it from being a true five-pearl property. Beautiful rooms have elegant furnishings, wood accents, and floor-to-ceiling windows, most with sweeping views of Victoria Harbor or the skyline. But lower category room bathrooms, though clad in marble, feature hotel-brand toiletries, and a few don’t have tubs. There are several fine dining options, as well as a more casual tapas bar and a lobby lounge with bar service, but the highlight here is the Shang Palace, a wonderful Cantonese restaurant boasting two Michelin stars and outstanding service (which reopened in September 2012 after a renovation). The fitness center, small indoor pool, and classy business center make it a great pick for business travelers, but its central location in Tsim Sha Tsui, near major attractions and the MTR, make it an ideal option for tourists, too.

The Langham, Hong Kong

The five-pearl Langham, Hong Kong is located in the heart of Hong Kong's Tsim Sha Tsu, within easy access of metro stations, shopping, and entertainment. The 498 rooms and suites are elegant and come with iHome docking stations and marble bathrooms with walk-in rainfall showers and separate tubs. Guests of Executive Rooms and suites get access to the Langham Club lounge, with perks such as free buffet breakfast and evening cocktails. While the hotel offers great amenities across the board, including an outdoor heated rooftop pool, a large fitness center, and plenty of conference space, it's the restaurants that really take the spotlight here, particularly T'Ang Court, which has earned three Michelin Stars for its Cantonese cuisine. Travelers may want to compare rates with the InterContinental Hong Kong, which offers butler service for all guests.

The Salisbury-YMCA of Hong Kong

Situated in the bustling tourist and shopping district of Tsim Sha Tsui, the 372-room Salisbury - YMCA of Hong Kong is an upscale property that's well-located within walking distance to major sights and the harbor. One highlight of this property is its excellent harbor views. Renovated in 2014, the hotel feels fresh with a stylish lobby and simple, subdued rooms. The bright, sun-filled rooms have free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, and electric kettles. They're also stocked with free water and fresh fruit. There are two on-site restaurants, a range of YMCA-related fitness facilities (a lap pool, hot tub, children's pool, rock-climbing wall, and squash courts), a hair salon, and outdoor terrace. A more luxurious option would be the Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers, which has a heated rooftop pool and an Oyster and Wine Bar, but rates can be pricier.

The Mira Hong Kong

With its sleek interiors, lively vibe, fashionable clientele, and vibrant mix of locals and tourists buzzing around all day, The Mira feels like a bit of South Beach transplanted to bustling Tsim Sha Tsui. This property is all contemporary shimmer, and feels boutique-inspired despite its 492 rooms. Those rooms are decked in minimalist decor, and come with premium additions like Bose Bluetooth soundsystems and free pocket Wi-Fi. High-end Specialty Suites cozy up to the hotel's trendy club, Vibes, and come with their own terraces -- a rarity in Hong Kong. Popular dining venues, an indoor pool, proper gym, and tranquil spa round out the perks here. For something with a calmer luxe vibe, check out West Kowloon's The Olympian instead, which has massive rooms and a far more intimate atmosphere.

The Peninsula Hong Kong
Salisbury Road Kowloon

The 300-room Peninsula Hong Kong is the Hong Kong's oldest hotel. Built in 1926, it blends modern sophistication with classic appeal, though it's far from sedate or stuffy. In fact, it was one of the liveliest hotels in Tsim Sha Tsui during our 2018 visit. Rooms are handsome, and include marble bathrooms with separate showers and soaking tubs. Many have Victoria Harbour views and the suites are astounding. Amenities here match the hotel's reputation: a Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant, a full-service spa and indoor pool, and the most popular High Tea in Hong Kong. With extras like a helicopter pad and a fleet of Rolls Royces, this is one of the city's most posh hotels. However, if you're seeking luxury perks closer to Central, opt for the Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong instead.

Lee Garden Guest House

Like many hostels and budget lodgings in Hong Kong, the two-pearl Lee Garden Guest House occupies floors in a secure residential building on a busy street. Clean and well-managed by an owner whose services include supplying Chinese work visas, the hostel-like hotel caters to backpackers and budget-conscious travelers of all stripes. The rooms are tiny and basic, but most have their own bathrooms. Those looking for more interesting room decor and more amenities should check rates at boutique hostels Hop Inn or InnSight, on the other side of Nathan Road.
