The 29-room Residence G Hong Kong is a hip, upper-mid-range hotel set in a relatively quiet corner of Kowloon's bustling Tsim Sha Tsui district. The vibe is smart and contemporary throughout, from its funky street-level cafe to third-floor lobby lounge and open-roof terrace. While standard Good Rooms are typically small, in-room tech includes wide-screen TVs, fast Wi-Fi, and handy smartphones with free Internet roaming. Space is a bit tight, but design is smart with large floor-to-ceiling windows and clean lines that provide a sense of space. While not the easiest location to find and lacking any on-site health facilities, it's certainly one of the coolest hotels around and tucked away from the nearby din and hubbub.

This Hyatt Regency is an attractive upscale property in the heart of bustling Tsim Sha Tsui. It's an easy walk from the Avenue of the Stars for nightly light shows, and views of Victoria Harbour from the property are often great. The 381 rooms are handsome and modern, with sharp bathrooms, handy storage space, and excellent soundproofing. There are several popular dining outlets and a great pool on-site, while the trendy K11 Art Mall and Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station are just downstairs. There aren't too many drawbacks to a stay here, though the immediate area can be thronged all day long. For a luxury stay that's a respite from the city's bustle, look into The Olympian instead. The massive rooms there come tricked out with Bose soundsystems and Nespresso machines.

The 503-room InterContinental is one of the most luxurious hotels in Hong Kong, conveniently situated along the harbor in Kowloon. Its claim to fame may be that two-thirds of the rooms have harbor views, but the hotel has plenty else to brag about, including five high-end dining options, a chic lobby bar, a rooftop pool, a top-notch spa, a large fitness center, extensive business services, and exceptional 24-hour room and butler service. Luxurious, sophisticated rooms have high-tech amenities like LCD TVs, Bose sound systems, generously stocked minibars, and smartphones, plus huge marble bathrooms with separate showers and tubs. It's hard to miss here, but for a more intimate and boutiquey five-pearl experience, guests might consider Hullet House -- though it tends to be pricier. 

The Park Hotel Hong Kong is an upscale, 346-room property set in Kowloon's bustling shopping and tourist hub of Tsim Sha Tsui. Rooms are spacious by Hong Kong standards and decent amenities include loaner smartphones with free mobile Internet and city guides; some have harbor views. There's a restaurant on-site serving Western, Chinese, and Japanese buffet fare. Interiors are certainly chic in parts, but it may also be worth considering the sometimes cheaper Butterfly On Prat hotel a block away, which some may find has a little more character. 

The 396-room Prince (Marco Polo Hotels) is an upscale property located within the expansive Harbour City shopping mall in Kowloon's bustling Tsim Sha Tsui district. This hotel is located near the harbor with plenty of transportation, shopping, and dining options in easy walking distance. Modern rooms have stylish, subdued decor and lots of amenities including minibars, electric kettles, free loaner smartphone, and free Wi-Fi. There's a decent on-site restaurant, a kids' club, and a stylish gym with modern cardio machines plus a range of weight-lifting equipment. The mall's other two hotels -- the Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel and the Gateway Hotel -- have more spirited decor, but tend to be a little pricier. 

Although the 417-room Royal Garden is an older hotel, it has maintained its polished appeal over the years. This luxury property has features like rooftop lap pool and several acclaimed dining destinations, many of which benefit from the open airy space of the building's towering central atrium. Rooms are large and contemporary, but while the hotel is just a block from Victoria Harbour, views of the water are obscured by other buildings. Travelers looking for an even more stylish stay with unhindered views of the harbor, should compare rates and features with the nearby Hotel ICON.

The upscale InterContinental Grand Stanford has plenty to like for tourists and business guests. The highlights are the hotel's food and beverage outlets, which are crowded day and night, and include some nice surprises. The whiskey bar is one of the best-stocked in the city, and the Club Lounge is one of the more impressive that we've seen in town. Rooms are attractive and modern, if stylistically straightforward, and many have excellent views of Victoria Harbour or the Tsim Sha Tsui skyline. Expect free Wi-Fi and marble bathrooms as well as minibars and extensive closets. A small pool isn't the city's chicest, but the fitness center has just enough for a basic workout. For rates like these, it's also worth checking out the more design-conscious Hotel Icon as well. 

Located in the bustling tourist and shopping district of Tsim Sha Tsui, the Butterfly On Prat is a 158-room, mid-range hotel that's ideal for a range of travelers. The hotel offers a stylish, modern atmosphere with simple but eclectic decor and colorful accents. Rooms are tastefully decorated and feature mini-fridges, microwaves, and flat-screen TVs. Wi-Fi is free and guests get a free smartphone to use. There are few extra property features -- there's no gym, pool, or eateries -- but plenty options exist nearby. Travelers may want to compare rates with Hotel Benito, a similar range hotel with comparable property features.

Three-and-a-half-pearl The Kowloon Hotel's location makes it a solid option in central Kowloon, but the hotel isn't a standout among its competitors. Common areas are stylish, but while its 736 guest rooms are sleek, there aren't any accents or punches of color that gives them pizazz. All units contain flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, and some have partial views of Victoria Harbour, but not all contain minibars, and Wi-Fi isn't included in all rates. The hotel doesn't have a gym, but there are several choices on-site for food and drink, including a Chinese restaurant, a cafe, and a cocktail bar. Travelers willing to spend more for a swimming pool and luxurious rooms with full harbor views might consider the nearby Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers. 

The Luxe Manor is a true sensory experience for the eyes. This upscale boutique hotel is designed to look like Salvador Dali's imagination -- and the result is certainly surreal, if a bit busy and over-the-top. The lobby is decorated in bold colors, there's a lip-shaped sofa in the bar, and the rooms have details such as busy animal-print carpets, and flat-screen TVs hanging in frames above faux fireplaces. The decor is quirky, to be sure, but might but it may not be to everyone's taste, and can have a sort of dizzying effect. The Luxe Manor is certainly a one-of-a-kind hotel, and has a convenient location in the popular tourist area Tsim Sha Tsui.
