Ridge on Sedona Golf Resort

The lower-middle-range Sedona Ridge is just off Highway 179 in the Village of Oak Creek, with 118 rooms housed in 23 tan stucco buildings on a sprawling property. The red rocks are far from the Ridge, so views of them are limited, but good views exist of the surrounding desert landscape, especially from the two heated pools. Rooms have kitchenettes, but many guests will have to drive from the lobby to reach them. Guests wanting better views at a similar price point should consider the Bell Rock Inn.

El Portal Sedona Hotel
95 Portal Lane, Coconino National Forest

Tucked away from the heart of Sedona, El Portal Sedona Hotel is an upscale hacienda-style property brimming with grandeur and boutique charm. It features 12 one-of-a-kind suites with log-beam ceilings, flagstone-tiled floors, fireplaces, and Southwestern antique decor, which results in grand yet cozy interiors. Guests also get access to the gym, pools, and day spa in the neighboring Los Abrigados Resort and Spa (though this commands a daily resort fee). On-site facilities include a lodge-style dining room offering hearty home-cooked breakfasts (which can also be taken in rooms), an honor bar for wine, beer, and snacks, and an enchanting al fresco garden courtyard with a fire pit that guests often mingle around in the evenings. Travelers wanting more resort-style features, such as a spa, multiple restaurants, and tennis courts, consider Enchantment Resort.

Hyatt Residence Club Sedona, Pinon Pointe
1 North Highway 89a

The upper-middle-range Hyatt Club Residence Club Sedona, Pinon Pointe is a condo-style hotel known for its pueblo design and breathtaking red rock views. It's located in the heart of Uptown Sedona and adjacent to Pinon Pointe shopping center, which offers boutiques, restaurants, live music, and a Starbucks. Decorated in a Southwestern style, the 109 studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments come with living areas, fully stocked kitchens, and private patios -- some with wonderful views. Larger units have stone fireplaces and jetted tubs. The beautiful two-tier heated pool with hot tubs and a fire pit is a highlight here, plus there are a kids' club, tennis courts, a game room, and a fitness center. Timeshare pitches can be annoying, though. As an alternative with a spa and bolder contemporary design, consider the Kimpton Amara Resort & Spa.

The Arabella Hotel is an upper-middle-range property set on a scenic stretch of Sedona highway surrounded by red rocks. The 144 spacious rooms feature retro-modern decor with mini-fridges, cable flat-screen TVs, and coffeemakers, and most open onto lovely wide patios and balconies with swing chairs. Grounds house two pools and hot tubs, a modern gym, a fenced-in dog park, and lounge and fire pit areas. There are also a popular on-site Mexican restaurant, Elote Cafe, and all sorts of perks including a delicious hot breakfast, loaner bikes, free Wi-Fi, and live music. Numerous galleries, restaurants, and shops are a short walk away, and there are many beautiful hiking trails directly accessible from the hotel. As a comparable alternative with an on-site day spa and a modern American restaurant, try Sedona Rouge Hotel and Spa

Sedona Real Inn and Suites

It offers a lot for dog owners, including special pet rooms with tile floors, a dog walking/play area, and free snacks for canine guests. There is a nice outdoor pool with neat landscaping and views of the mountains in the distance. While the hotel serves a hot breakfast every morning, there's no restaurant on-site; guests fond of room service and on-site dining might be better off at the nearby Poco Diablo Resort.

Adobe Grand Villas
35 Hozoni Drive

This quirky, bed and breakfast-style hotel has 16 villas, all artistically designed around a certain theme, including the Wagon Wheel villa with a functioning water wheel on the entry door and covered wagon-style bed. Unique amenities include a bread maker with a fresh loaf upon arrival, filling the rooms with the scent of fresh-baked bread. New Orleans native Michael Merilli, prepares a five-course breakfast every morning and can also be called upon as a personal chef. Such services don’t come cheap, and the themed rooms may not be every traveler’s cup of tea, but you’d be hard pressed to find something quite so creative.

Poco Diablo Resort
1752 State Route 179

Sedona's Poco Diablo Resort is an upper-middle-range property with plenty of outdoor amenities aimed at guests looking for a quiet but active vacation. For many guests, the property's biggest draw is its nine-hole golf course, and it also has tennis courts, an outdoor pool, full-service spa, and a large fitness center. It's a bit far from local commerce, but there is a bar that serves pub food and a restaurant on the property.

Briar Patch Inn
3190 N State Route 89a

The Briar Patch Inn is an intimate and rustic bed and breakfast with 19 cabins that’s about a five to 10-minute drive from downtown Sedona, hiking trails, shops, and restaurants. Rooms are comfortable and include lovely wood furnishings that add a touch of home, but there is no Wi-Fi and the main lodge (with free Wi-Fi) closes at 8 p.m. There are no TVs or telephones, which creates a serene and quiet atmosphere. The nine acres of land offers wonderful natural views as well as access to Oak Creek and there is a spa on-site. A free daily homemade breakfast receives wonderful reviews. Guests who are willing to pay more may want to consider L'Auberge de Sedona, which offers creekside accommodations with more refined on-site amenities, including a restaurant and wine cellar.

Creekside Inn Sedona
99 Copper Cliffs Dr

The Creekside Inn at Sedona is a serene seven-room bed and breakfast located on two acres of wooded private property. There are art galleries and a few restaurants within walking distance, and downtown Sedona, shops, and attractions are within a five-minute drive. Rooms are quiet and include nature and/or creek views as well as vintage Victorian-style furnishings and free Wi-Fi. The grounds can get dark as night since there is minimal lighting, but they are well taken care of and expansive. Massages are available on-site as well as a free, excellently reviewed breakfast.

Southwest Inn at Sedona

The Southwest Inn at Sedona is a 28-room, mid-range boutique hotel off Highway 89A, Sedona's main drag. Guests are well-situated: within walking distance of shops and restaurants, and a short drive from downtown Sedona and hiking trails. Overall decor is a bit dated, and the pink and green color palette is less than appealing. However there are some lovely wood features, an outdoor dining area with beautiful views of the red rocks, and free Wi-Fi throughout. Guest rooms have flat-screen TVs and kiva-style fireplaces; some have private patios with red rocks views. Breakfast is free and highly rated. Some rooms may have interior and exterior noise, and there is no elevator to get to the upstairs breakfast room. It may also be worth considering the similarly priced Sedona Rouge Hotel and Spa just a minute down the road, which has nicer decor.
