Amara Resort & Spa

The 100-room Amara Resort and Spa is a moderately sized hotel along Oak Creek in uptown Sedona. The contemporary design can feel a little overdone, but the grounds are beautiful, with an infinity pool overlooking the red rock pillars for which the area is known. Rooms are contemporary and pleasant. With free morning yoga and a spa with body treatments and facials, the hotel is a restful and picturesque getaway. Amid shops and galleries in Uptown Sedona, the location is ideal for tourists.

Oak Creek Terrace Resort

The 20-room, mid-range Oak Creek Terrace Resort is a rustic, family-owned and -operated hotel in Oak Creek Canyon, just north of Sedona. The landscape is the star here, with a creek for swimming or fishing with the hotel’s fishing poles, a creekside glade with hammocks for napping, and bird sounds for accompaniment. Each room -- some are standalone cottages, others are in the main building -- has different features, such as screened patios, but all have romantic wood-burning fireplaces and whirlpool tubs for two. The hotel is a great, unfussy choice for vacationing families and couples.

GreenTree Inn Sedona

The two-pearl GreenTree Inn Sedona (previously Days Inn Sedona) is a budget hotel with a decent list of features. It's located on the busy Highway 89A, within  close driving distance from many of the areas attractions, along with spectacular views of the famous red rocks. The 66 guest rooms feature convenient amenities like microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. A free buffet breakfast (including hot and cold options) is the only meal offered, with no full restaurant or bar available. There's also a seasonal outdoor swimming pool and hot tub. While GreenTree Inn Sedona has the best bang for your buck in the area (except for a pesky daily hotel service fee), travelers looking for more kid-friendly features can compare rates at Sedona Summit Resort, which has three swimming pools and a kids' clubhouse.

Sedona Rouge Hotel and Spa Trademark Collection by Wyndham

Sedona Rouge is an upper-middle-range spa resort set on one of Sedona’s busiest streets. The 104 rooms and suites vary -- while some are slightly dated, those in the stylish newer wing are far more modern. Most rooms are exceptionally spacious (Almeria Suites start at 500 square feet), and come with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and step-out balconies or patios. Views range from lackluster to impressive red rocks vistas. Reds Restaurant and lounge serves American fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The bi-level spa has an extensive menu featuring desert-inspired treatments and morning yoga classes are available at extra cost. There’s also a heated outdoor pool, rooftop observation deck, and a simple fitness center. Expect to pay a resort fee. Those seeking a more secluded spa resort, surrounded by red rocks, could try the Enchantment Resort.

Best Western Plus Arroyo Roble Hotel & Creekside Villas

This 65-room mid-range property is a Best Western, but before you think “motel,” think again. With stunning views of Oak Creek Canyon’s red rocks, two pools, and a gorgeous little stretch of Oak Creek to explore, this Best Western has more to offer than you might expect. It sits in Uptown Sedona, within easy walking distance of shopping and dining. The free breakfast, Wi-Fi, and parking add value, and rooms are bright and clean, if generic.

Junipine Resort

The upper-middle-range Junipine Resort isn’t a true “resort” -- don’t expect a swimming pool, fitness center, spa, or shops. Rather, Junipine comprises 50 individually owned creek-side condos in secluded, woodsy Oak Creek Canyon. The Junipine offers plenty of peace and quiet, as well as nice views, and the 1,400-square-foot condos are spacious -- though some could use an update.

Los Abrigados Resort and Spa
160 Portal Ln

Los Abrigados occupies an excellent location near Uptown Sedona, with Oak Creek running past the property, and shopping and dining next door at the lovely Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village. The grounds are gorgeous and include a mini-golf course. However, the rooms -- though most are large, with kitchenettes and balconies -- could use an update. More modern rooms in Uptown Sedona can be had at a similar price point at the Best Western Arroyo Roble.

Hilton Sedona Resort at Bell Rock

The mid-range Hilton Sedona has features to please both families and business travelers, including several pools, event services, the enormous spa, and a neighboring golf course. The Hilton is a 20-minute drive from Sedona, but red rock views are still spectacular (from certain rooms) and the atmosphere is more relaxed than in Uptown. You'll have to pay for Wi-Fi, though -- unlike at the nearby Bell Rock Inn.

The Inn Above Oak Creek
556 Highway 179

The three-pearl Inn Above Oak Creek is a cozy bed-and-breakfast with a romantic setting on scenic Oak Creek, within walking distance of restaurants, galleries, and upscale shops in central Sedona. All 13 rooms have a contemporary yet homey style; some have creekside balconies, and all most whirlpool tubs and gas fireplaces. Common areas, including the breakfast room and terrace, also have beautiful Oak Creek views. A free continental breakfast is served daily, and staff can recommend local hikes and outdoor activities. The inn tends to book up quickly, especially during the spring and fall, and children 12 and under are not allowed. It's worth checking out Best Western Plus Arroyo Roble Hotel & Creekside Villas, which is in bustling uptown Sedona and has two pools for similar rates.

Desert Quail Inn Sedona at Bell Rock

The Desert Quail Inn offers large rooms at a rate that is difficult to match in the Sedona area. Located in the Village of Oak Creek, it's about seven miles from Sedona, but the area has the same stunning scenery while being much less touristy. There is no on-site restaurant or bar, but the hotel does have a small pool and is in close proximity to some of the region's best hiking trails. It's a good base for families on budget, or those who plan on spending more time out hiking versus lounging. Those wanting a room with a view and a few more amenities might consider the Bell Rock Inn for slightly higher rates.
