Hotel Moses Fountain

Part boutique hotel, part guest house, the Moses Fountain offers a refreshing break from the cookie-cutter chain hotel experience. Housed in a 16th-century edifice that was once part of the city's aqueduct system, the Moses lacks most of the amenities of a typical hotel, including a lobby, elevator, restaurant, or 24-hour front desk staff. Nonetheless, six guest rooms are spacious and individually decorated with many stylish details. The steep staircases here may be too challenging for folks with mobility issues.

Rome Armony Suites

Rome Armony Suites is a small six-room bed and breakfast located in an area that’s convenient for tourists yet less inundated with out-of-towners than other neighborhoods. The establishment has a simple, intimate atmosphere, thanks in large part to the hands-on ownership. The very effectively soundproofed rooms are simply decorated with a modern aesthetic, including blue bedspreads and curtains, under-bed lighting, and flat-screen TVs. The breakfast part of the deal is offered at a nearby café, with plenty of additional attractions in the vicinity.

Occidental Aurelia
Via di Torre Rossa 80

The 84-room Occidental Aurelia was converted from religious housing in 2011, and the decor throughout is fresh and modern. The bright, spacious rooms are decorated in neutral colors, and the bathrooms are large and sleek. Its sleepy location, however, doesn’t make it a great option for all visitors. The hotel is best suited for business travelers or families with older children who don’t mind the 15-minute walk to the metro. Prices are very affordable when compared to similar hotels in the city center, and nearby attractions include the beautiful Villa Doria Pamphili Park.

Foresteria Roma
Via degli Apuli, 41

A barebones, no-frills hotel? A safe and well-maintained youth hostel? Depending on how you look at the 35-room Foresteria Roma, it could fit either of these descriptions. Rooms are as minimal as can be, but are updated, clean, and quieter than one might expect. Given Foresteria’s location in the San Lorenzo district (not far from Termini Station), it can be seen as an incredible value for travelers on a budget. The socially conscious will appreciate staying here: The hotel is run by The Salvation Army, and a large percentage of its profits go towards charities benefiting the poor.

Suite Dreams

The nine-room SuiteDreams Hotel may have a cheesy pun built into the name, but it's actually a solid mid-range option within walking distance of Termini Statin and Trevi Fountain. The hotel feels updated thanks to use of modern design trends, and free extras such as Wi-Fi and breakfast add value. Rooms are decently sized and clean (if a tad bland), with most sporting twin beds and stone shower stalls. It's a good price for the location, but it's worth comparing rates with the Hotel Fontana, which is a bit closer to the tourist sights.

Hotel Genio

The Genio Hotel is in a fantastic location, just a two-minute walk from the elegant Piazza Navona and within easy walking distance of many popular tourist sights. This elegant mid-range hotel has 66 guest rooms spread over six floors of a neo-Renaissance palace on the corner of a busy street. One of its highlights is the spacious rooftop terrace from where there are spectacular views of the city’s rooftops and landmarks including St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. The decor is classical and elegant, but is a little dated for those with more modern tastes, and there are a few signs of wear and tear in some guest rooms. For another property in the same price range, travelers could consider the charming Hotel Santa Maria, located in a former monastery on a quiet street in the trendy neighborhood of Trastevere.

Hotel Rome Pisana
Via della Pisana 374

The 229-room Hotel Rome Pisana is a stylish, mid-range, contemporary hotel in western Rome with spacious, colorful rooms and comfortable beds. There’s no shortage of common spaces, including two modern restaurants and a big lobby with plenty of seating space. With several meeting rooms and a location that’s only a 20-minute drive from the airport, it’s a great option for business travelers and those who need to catch an early flight, but it’s a bit far from central Rome. Prices are almost unbeatable, especially for the quality rooms and free Wi-Fi.

Hotel Diocleziano
Via Gaeta 71

Hotel Diocleziano is a small, 35-room hotel two blocks from Termini Station, but tucked away from the chaos on the narrow Via Gaeta. Amenities include a small fitness center with a sauna and free soft drinks from the in-room minibars, which are replenished daily. While the rooms are comfortable, the overall atmosphere is a little underwhelming and the decor lacks character. Deluxe rooms have balconies and views overlooking the Diocletian Baths. The nearby Welcome Piram Hotel is more elegant and rates are often lower.

Exe International Palace

The 130-room Exe International Palace is located about halfway between Termini Station and the Trevi Fountain. It is advertised as a four-star hotel, but priced (and decorated) like a mid-range property. Superior Rooms are more spacious than their Standard Room counterparts, which have cramped bathrooms with tiny shower stalls. The nearby Hotel Rex has more property features as well as free breakfast, but it's five minutes closer to Termini Station (and five minutes farther from the tourist center). All in all, Exe offers solid value for the location, particularly when you take the free Wi-Fi and free airport shuttle into account.

Hotel Caprice
Sahodaran Ayyappan Road Manorama Junction Kochi Ernakulam

The 40-room Hotel Caprice is a solid mid-range option for tourists on a budget. The rooms are unpretentious with generic, underwhelming decor and cramped bathrooms, but they are clean and functional for this price range. The public areas of the hotel, such as the tiny, windowless breakfast room, aren’t a draw. But the location, steps from Via Veneto and near some of Rome’s most popular tourist destinations, is one of the property’s best assets.
