Lifestyle Suites Rome

Impeccable personalized service and a fabulous location in picturesque Piazza Navona are the main highlights at Lifestyle Suites Rome. This luxury boutique hotel has nine individually designed suites with glossy modern decor and countless bespoke features. Amenities include turndown service with chocolates, Molton Brown bath products, and bathrobes and slippers -- and preferences such as minibar contents and pillows are customized in advance of arrival. Facilities are limited, but the fabulous rooftop terrace has outstanding views of Piazza Navona, and the free breakfast buffet includes home-baked breads, fresh local produce, and hot items like eggs Benedict and French toast. Wi-Fi is free throughout, and paid garage parking is nearby. For a luxury option with more old world character, try Villa Spalletti Trivelli instead.

G-Rough
Piazza di Pasquino 69-A

Just a block away from Piazza Navona in the historic center of Rome, G-Rough is a glamorous, four-pearl option with an ideal location for sightseers. And the property itself holds its own against its atmospheric surroundings. Set in a 17th-century former residence, its 10 suites creatively juxtapose historic building features with refined mid-century furniture and swish amenities. A top-notch free breakfast and a sleek bar with an extensive wine selection add to G-Rough’s appeal, but the hotel’s small size limits the amount of features on hand. Travelers looking for a wider range of amenities may want to compare rates with Hotel Indigo Rome - St. George, which offers a restaurant, spa, and fitness center.

Hotel dei Borgia

Housed in a neoclassical building that was once a bank, the upper-middle-range Hotel dei Borgia fuses vintage and modern styles in its elegant interiors. Situated in the Monti district, it's close to Rome's main train station and within walking distance of several top sights, like the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain. Its 80 stylish rooms feature damask wallpaper and Louis XIV-style furniture, as well as modern amenities including minibars, safes, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. A breakfast buffet is included, plus there's a small fitness room as well as a sauna and hot tub. Meeting rooms are also available. Travelers might want to compare with Hotel Trevi Collection, which has larger rooms, but doesn't offer fitness facilities.

Mood Suites Tritone
Via Rasella 152

For those looking for a modern hotel and an extended or self-sufficient stay within walking distance of Rome's major attractions, the three-pearl Mood Suites Tritone is a good option. There are only eight spacious suites. Each is outfitted with a kettle, flat-screen TV, and air-conditioning. Some have kitchenettes and balconies, and all have a modern design. Beyond the rooms, there’s little in the way to do here. There isn't a restaurant, bar, gym, or main breakfast room. If breakfast is included in the room rate, breakfast items are stocked in the rooms for guests to prepare themselves. Travelers can get more bang for their buck at The Britannia Hotel, which offers free breakfast, rooms with free minibars, and a bar.

Hotel Roma Aurelia Antica
Via Degli Aldobrandeschi 223

Hotel Roma Aurelia Antica is a dated three-pearl property on Rome's west side, in a residential area near the airport. It's a large hotel with substantial facilities for both business and leisure, including a conference center, fitness center, and an outdoor pool. It also has a cocktail bar and a restaurant with an outdoor terrace. Extra fees for breakfast and Wi-Fi can stack up though, and there's even a fee to use the pool. The 280 guest rooms are on the large side, with minibars and classic wood furnishings, but are underwhelming and could use updated amenities. Rates are cheaper at the nearby Holiday Inn Rome - Aurelia, and it has free Wi-Fi.

Villa Spalletti Trivelli

Tucked into the trendy Monti district is Villa Spalletti Trivelli – a 14-room exclusive boutique residence with longstanding aristocratic heritage. The distinguished historic ambiance is hard to miss, and the understated rooms are packed with ample luxury amenities including an unlimited free minibar and L’Occitane toiletries. Facilities are focused on relaxation – and the stately private garden, fabulous rooftop terrace, and marble spa are guest favorites. Food is locally sourced and often organic, including the free breakfast buffet’s homemade pastries and myriad hot items, along with the exclusive family recipes used for lunch and dinner. Two unlimited self-serve bars and daily aperitivi with prosecco are excellent freebies. The refined experience here is hard to beat – but those who seeking an equally luxe alternative can try Palazzo Manfredi instead.

Hotel Rinascimento

The Hotel Rinascimento is a solid boutique option whose best feature is its fantastic location on a cobblestone side street near Piazza Navona. The hotel’s tiny lobby is bright and attractive with art in warm reds and oranges. Rooms and bathrooms are stylish and pleasant; some rooms have large patios with pleasant seating areas. A big breakfast spread is included in the daily rate, and Wi-Fi is free. However, the elevator is tiny and doesn’t reach the top floor, and guests complain of being told the hotel is overbooked and being moved to a less desirable property. In the same price category and an equally great location in the trendy Jewish Ghetto, the Monte Cenci Hotel has small rooms but a lovely rooftop terrace and much higher guest satisfaction.

Vatican View
Vatican City

If you're in town to see the Holy See, you can't do much better than the Relais Vatican View. It's located just meters away from the Vatican walls. The downside? It's about a 30-minute walk to the city center to see anything else -- and the closest metro is about 15 minutes away. As far as the hotel itself goes, the 15 rooms and suites are clean and relatively spacious with high ceilings and plenty of natural light. The bathrooms are also modern and sleek, with gray tile and rainfall showerheads. There isn't much in the way of amenities here (not even a restaurant, though there is a daily breakfast buffet), but the rooftop terrace with views of St. Peter's Basilica is a standout.

Veneto Palace Hotel
Via Piemonte 63

The Veneto Palace Hotel is a cozy mid-range family-run boutique hotel. It's ideal for those seeking an authentic Italian stay in Rome within easy reach of most tourist sights. The 70 guest rooms vary in terms of style, though all are classically romantic with antiques, flat-screen TVs, and minibars. Features include a breakfast buffet, a cafe, a bar, and meeting rooms, but there's no pool or gym and the free Wi-Fi can be spotty at times. Travelers may want to also consider the nearby Rose Garden Palace, which has modern decor, a spa, a pool, and a gym.

Tango Hotel
11 Soi Ratchaprarop 8 Khwaeng Makkasan Khet Ratchathewi

The 10-room Tango Hotel is a modern mid-range hotel located within walking distance of Vatican City and close to a metro station. The hotel opened in 2013 after a complete renovation and offers clean and contemporary duplex guest rooms with living rooms and modern comforts like air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars, luxurious bathrooms, and free Wi-Fi. However, staircases that lead to the bedrooms in each unit might pose an issue for some guests. Breakfast is included in room rates, and the hotel also offers a meeting room and a dance studio. Another clean and comfortable hotel worth considering is Rome Armony Suites, located in the same area; its rates can be lower though rooms aren't as spacious.
