The 40-room Grand Hotel Dore is a mid-range property that offers an old-fashioned, clean retreat with budget prices and quick access via the nearby metro to all the popular Paris sights. There are 24-hour front desk service, luggage storage, a casual breakfast room, a lobby bar, and TV lounge. Clean rooms are traditionally decorated and offer mini-fridges, electric kettles, flat-screen TVs, and Paris street views, but rooms are a bit cramped and some furnishings are dated. More spacious and modern rooms are at the Hotel Acropol, but prices may be higher.

A charming boutique hotel in the chic 2nd Arrondissement, Lyric Hotel Paris is an upscale choice within a short walk of the Louvre, Opera Garnier, and the Galeries Lafayette department store. Unlike many Paris properties, the Lyric offers an indoor pool in addition to a sauna, steam room, and small fitness center. The 47 bright and stylish rooms feature flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, and pay homage to ballet and opera in their colorful decor. The Lyric can be pricey, but given its central location and high quality it's a solid bet when compared to nearby four-pearl properties, like Hotel Lumen Paris Louvre, which has a chic restaurant and bar, but lacks a pool.

The 43-room Derby Eiffel Hotel is a mid-range property offering affordable prices in a turn-of-the-century building with Eiffel Tower views. The furnishings are a mix of modern and old-world styles and there are a number of nice amenities including a quaint courtyard, classic mahogany bar and lounge, a charming breakfast room with stone walls, and a computer corner. Rooms have artwork inspired by Paris landmarks, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and in some, whirlpool tubs, and views of the courtyard or Eiffel Tower -- but can be tiny. There is a pesky fee for Wi-Fi. It may also be worth considering the similarly priced Hotel Duquesne Eiffel nearby, which offers free Wi-Fi and arguably better rooms.

The 16-room upper-middle-range Le Robinet d’Or is a charming boutique hotel in the 10th arrondissement. It's full of character and industrial-chic decor that’s a nod to its name and history, as this “Golden Tap” was once a tap factory. Though not close to many major tourist sights, the area is well populated with restaurants, and is conveniently located within walking distance of two major train stations, and is around the corner from a metro station. Quaint rooms with flower-covered crimson accent walls have comfortable beds and amenities that include flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers, and lovely (but small) modern bathrooms. Suites with kitchenettes and living rooms are also available. The on-site restaurant and bar is a typical Parisian bistro, and is a popular spot with local residents as well as guests. Other features include meeting rooms and event facilities, an iMac computer in the lobby (the hotel will also lend laptops), free bottled water, and free Wi-Fi throughout. Guests should be aware that there is no elevator.

The Hotel des Saints-Peres is a refined, boutique property housed in an elegant 17th-century mansion in the lovely neighborhood of Saint-Germain-des-Pres. Tucked away on charming Rue des Saints Peres, the hotel is within a 15-minute walk of the Louvre and Tuileries Garden on the opposite side of the Seine. While all the rooms are elegant, some features -- such as an original ceiling fresco -- stand out, and rooms overlooking the peaceful interior courtyard are particularly pleasant. While room prices are reasonable for an upscale hotel in this prime location, travelers might want to also check out the K+K Hotel Cayre on the Boulevard Raspail, which is less swanky but has more facilities -- a spa, for example -- at lower rates. 

The upper-middle-range Hotel Villa Saxe Eiffel is situated in a residential Left Bank neighborhood that's a little off the beaten path for tourists. The only major nearby attractions are Les Invalides and Napoleon's Tomb, a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The 48 rooms are sharp, and come with comfortable beds, free Wi-Fi, MP3 docks, and flat-screen TVs, though some rooms are small. The hotel also offers a bar and an ample breakfast buffet (for a fee). It's a good choice for travelers wanting a stylish boutique hotel, but the Hotel Lumen Paris Louvre is only slightly pricier and far more central, though it lacks a fitness room and sauna.

The 170-room Hotel Median Paris Congres is located in the 17th arrondissement, in the Porte de Clichy area on the edge of the city. The hotel’s common areas are spacious but dated, but the guest rooms -- while small -- are bright, clean, and modern. The hotel faces Paris’s periphery freeway, and the area lacks the charm and convenience found in more central Parisian locations. Business travelers and sports fans may appreciate the proximity to the Stade de France and convention centers and it's a convenient spot for guests with a car, but there is a fee for parking. 

The mid-range, 39-room Agora Saint Germain offers reasonable rates for its Latin Quarter location. The Pantheon, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the banks of the Seine are within easy walking distance, and the lively tourist-filled area has plenty of restaurants and cafes. Rooms are small but clean, and come with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and minibars. Some have Juliet balconies and lovely views of the city. Guests might want to also consider the nearby Hotel Abbatial Saint Germain, which is managed by the same company.

The 24-room Montmarte Mon Amour is an upper-mid-range boutique hotel in the most picturesque area of Montmarte, around the corner from the Sacre-Coeur Basilica. Vibrant, romantic interiors are doused in rich reds and pinks. Atmospheric art depicting famous French couples covers the walls. The love theme permeates the entire hotel, from modern rooms quenched in color down to the heart-shaped waffles served at breakfast (breakfast comes with an added charge). In-room amenities vary, and only the largest rooms have coffeemakers. There is no fitness center, restaurant, or business center, but the hotel has a cozy lobby library dappled in lavender and crimson hues with a fireplace and a selection of books. The hotel's romantic vibe most suits couples, but the hotel is family-friendly enough to offer baby cots and babysitting services for those traveling with children, and has several single rooms available for solo travelers. 

The mid-range, 29-room Art Hotel Batignolles is in the 17th arrondissement, off the well-worn tourist path but near La Fourche metro station, where Line 13 shoots south to the Champs-Elysees and the Left Bank. It's a hotel with few frills, but it covers the basics, and rates are low for its three-pearl level. Rooms are modern but small (bathrooms are tiny) and somewhat dark, despite the large windows. All rooms come with with mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, desks, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel has an elevator, which is not a given in a property this small. Within walking distance of the Square des Batignolles, a four-acre English-style park, and the Rue de Levis, one of Paris' liveliest market streets, the hotel is in a residential neighborhood with a small town vibe -- there are plenty of cafes, shops, bakeries, and restaurants, including Les Puces des Batignolles next door, which serves traditional French food. The hotel is about a 10-minute cab ride to Porte de Champerret, where several trade fairs are held, and the location might suit business travelers attending events there.
