Calypso Resort & Towers
15817 Front Beach Rd

Calypso Resort and Towers is an enormous double high-rise resort that stretches up from the beach in Panama City. The resort is one of the nicer properties in the area with private beach access, two pools, and a convenient location just one block away from the shopping, dining, and attractions of Pier Park. Each of the 600 rooms are equipped with expected condo amenities such full kitchens with dishwasher, and washer/dryers. The inside of the resort is a bit dated, but the location and beach access cannot be beat. Guests should be aware that decor varies widely between condos, and some visitors report that while oceanfront balconies are appealing, views vary depending on the tower floor.

The Summit Condominiums
8743 Thomas Dr

The Summit Condominiums is a 137-room condo complex located on the beach in Panama City. The units can be rented out by companies and private owners, and unlike a standard hotel, this can make for some inconsistencies. Guests complain about outdated rooms in need of repair, unattractive linens, and cleaning standards that can vary from room to room, along with the decor. Most guests seem to agree, though, that the location and outdoor amenities (sandy beach, several pools, beachfront bar) are great.

Grand Panama Beach Resort
11807 Front Beach Rd

It’s all about the flat, sandy beach at Grand Panama Beach Resort, an upper-middle-range property on Panama City Beach’s popular strip. The property has 150 condo units with full kitchens, and some have gulf views, but as is often the case with individually owned condo properties, there's variation among the units, and some of the furnishings, including tube-style TVs and worn couches, are dated. Facilities include two outdoor pools and an outdoor bar. The property has two towers, and guests recommend requesting rooms in the beachfront tower. The location may be a bit too near the partying spring breakers for some, so travelers looking for a quieter locale should check out Splash Resort Condominiums, an upper-middle-range property on the West end of the strip with such family-fun features as a lazy river and mini bowling alley. k

Sheraton Bay Point Resort
4114 Jan Cooley Drive

The Sheraton Bay Point Resort hits all the marks of an upscale oceanfront hotel, including a private beach and marina and perks like helicopter rides or boating trips to Shell Island. The 320 rooms are modern and contemporary after a complete renovation in 2016. They have flat-screen TVs, minibars, and Starbucks coffee. Five restaurants, a gym, two golf courses, a lovely pier, relaxing spa, and four outdoor pools are enough to keep guests entertained, but fees for features like the breakfast buffet, shuttle to Shell Island, and a daily resort fee are a bit of a drawback. It’s far from the main stretches of public beaches -- which might be a pro for those who like quiet. Families could also consider Majestic Beach Towers, which has an indoor pool and beachfront location for lower rates.

Boardwalk Beach Resort Condominiums
9400 S Thomas Dr

Boardwalk Beach Resort Condominiums is an upper-middle-range property with 320 condos on the beach in Panama City. One- to three-bedroom condo units have either full kitchens or kitchenettes as well as private balconies, some with water views. The units are privately owned, so decor varies; some can be dated and showing signs of wear. For dining, the property has an open-air bar and grill. In addition to the lovely stretch of white-sand beach, there are an outdoor pool, two hot tubs, a splash pad, fitness center, and sauna. Guests complain about the security guards being too overbearing, however, and there are age restrictions for renting. There are a lot of condo complexes to choose from in the area, and travelers might want to compare rates with other properties, including Sunrise Beach Resort, a well-liked complex with two outdoor pools.

Ocean Breeze By The Sea
11004 Front Beach Rd

Ocean Breeze Hotel is a 96-room budget property located across the street from the beach and within easy walking distance to restaurants. Rooms updated in 2016 have standard chain-style decor, flat-screen TVs, microwaves, and mini-fridges; some rooms have distant ocean views. Past guests have complained of minor maintenance and housekeeping issues. Free continental breakfast is served and guests get a discount at the restaurant across the street. An outdoor pool and a poolside bar are the only other features at the hotel. Families willing to pay higher rates might prefer Beachcomber by The Sea, a beachfront property where all rooms have gulf-front balconies.

Beachbreak By The Sea
15405 Front Beach Rd

This mid-range beachfront hotel has 97 rooms in a four-story, motel-style building. Guest rooms offer welcome perks like small kitchenettes but the overall decor is basic, dated, and dreary. The property is within a few steps of the beach, however, and restaurants, shopping, and other tourist attractions are within easy reach. On-site facilities include a heated pool, hot tub, playground, and beach restaurant and bar, making the Beachbreak a viable option for those on a tight budget. Free parking, breakfast, and (spotty) Wi-Fi are provided as well.

Sterling Beach
6627 Thomas Dr

Sterling Beach sits on five acres of manicured Gulf-front land in Panama City Beach. Each of its 92 condos -- some of which can sleep up to 12 people -- are incredibly spacious and outfitted with a kitchen, washer/dryer, free Wi-Fi, and DVD players. While only some units have amazing floor-to-ceiling windows, all have sweeping ocean views. Decor ranges from classic and modern to kitschy and island-themed, all depending on the condo owner. The resort offers 300 feet of private beach, free chairs, and a huge outdoor pool that is heated seasonally.

Grandview East Resort
10713 Front Beach Rd

Grandview East and West is yet another Panama City high-rise for the beach lover. The white sand beach here is gorgeous, but the two pools are both small and have a utilitarian feel that is incongruous with the gorgeous Gulf views. Condos are pleasant with large bathrooms and balconies, although decor varies wildly between units and some furnishings are dated. As with many area condos, services and amenities are slim, although Grandview does offer a sunny fitness center with great views and Gulf-side grilling platforms with picnic tables.

Wyndham Vacation Resorts Panama City Beach
14700 Front Beach Rd

Wyndham Panama City Beach Vacation Resort is a mid-range time-share property that offers 400 units with full kitchens and gulf-view balconies. Unlike other complexes, all units are similarly decorated and there’s concierge service. The resort is situated on a sandy beach and shares some of its facilities with a neighboring property, including its two outdoor pools, hot tubs, and kids' pool. There are also a Starbucks on-site, two bars, one of which is poolside, and a well-equipped fitness center. Guests complain of long elevator wait times, however, and steep fees for beach chairs and umbrellas. Families may want to compare rates with Splash Resort Condominiums, an upper-middle-range property with a lazy river and mini bowling alley.
