The Strand a Boutique Resort

The Strand A Boutique Resort, is located in downtown Myrtle Beach and is within easy walking distance of many popular restaurants and shops. The mid-range beachfront hotel draws families and couples with an outdoor pool, hot tub, and kiddy pool. A free hot breakfast is served each morning, and the bar and restaurant offer lunch and dinner. The overall look is contemporary and inspired by the beach location with splashes of blues and greens. All 141 rooms are spacious, and come with flat-screen TVs, kitchenettes (some full kitchens), and balconies. Free garage parking and free Wi-Fi add value to a stay. Travelers looking for a little more action might consider the sister resort, Compass Cove, which has a 23 water amenities for the kids and two restaurants at a similar price.

Oceans One Resort
102 S Ocean Blvd

The three-pearl Oceans One Resort has more of a condo community atmosphere than that of a resort, as its lobby is located across the street and there are no dining options on-site. Five fun water features are about the only amenities that resemble that of other Myrtle Beach beachfront properties. What stands out most are the contemporary and stylish design of the 130 condos which are outfitted with balconies and kitchens.  If you can look past the limited housekeeping, small gym, and book a room from the hotel's room inventory and not from individual owners (these condos vary in terms of cleanliness), it could make for a good stay. A daily resort fee takes care of parking and Wi-Fi. As an alternative, Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort has two slides, a few restaurants, and a kids' club, often at a lower price.

Carolinian Beach Resort

There’s a lot of promise at the two-and-a-half-pearl Carolinian Beach Resort. In 2017, it updated 100 rooms to a contemporary style not often seen among the Myrtle Beach beachfront properties and are planning to do the same with the Suites (which have kitchens) in 2018. A free hot breakfast is a nice perk, but there’s no restaurant or bar on-site. Families and couples have a lot of water amenities to choose from, from the beach to lazy rivers, hot tubs, and indoor and outdoor pools. One major annoyance is resort fees, weekend surcharges, and marketing fees added to rates. Couples enjoy Carolinian Beach Resort’s relaxed and not overly family-focused vibe, but might consider North Beach Plantation which has an upscale design, spa, and swim-up bar.

Carolina Winds
200 76th Ave N

Popular with families, Carolina Winds is a mid-range, budget-friendly hotel whose 147 suites and condos range from one to four bedrooms. The hotel is located on the quieter, northern end of Myrtle Beach in a residential area within a two-minute walk of the beach. It has a 120-foot (about 37 meters) outdoor pool, a small, lazy river, an indoor pool and whirlpools inside a solarium, and a small fitness center. But there's no on-site restaurant. Guests seeking a hotel closer to the action may want to check out the Landmark Resort, a mid-range property in Central Myrtle Beach with an abundance of water features, including lazy rivers, pools, and whirlpools.

Sea Mist Oceanfront Resort

Spanning several street blocks in South Myrtle Beach, the Sea Mist Oceanfront Resort is a huge mid-range option with loads of family-friendly features, a massive amount of rooms, and unfortunately: some problems. Occupying 20 buildings that could use a refresh, all 781 spacious rooms come with kitchenettes, flat-screen TVs, and coffeemakers (but no coffee). Some rooms are located oceanfront while others are about a five-minute walk away. The lively resort features 16 pools or hot tubs, a massive water park, and a kids' wading pool. There are five restaurants and bars, though some are seasonal. Major downsides include fees for the water park, lack of pool towels, and housekeeping issues. Travelers looking for a little more quiet during their vacation should consider Hampton Inn Broadway at the Beach, which has a quieter vibe.

Hampton Inn Myrtle Beach - Broadway At the Beach

Guests don’t seem to mind that the mid-range Hampton Inn Myrtle Beach - Broadway at the Beach is a 30-minute walk from the Myrtle Beach beachfront. Most are happy the hotel is in the Broadway at the Beach complex, packed with dining and entertainment options, which is great since the hotel lacks a restaurant and bar. It helps that the hotel offers a free hot breakfast buffet and indoor and outdoor pools. The 141 rooms were updated in 2016 and are equipped with microwaves and mini-fridges. For those who like chain brand names and a beachfront location, the Best Western Plus Grand Strand Inn & Suites offers both, but the rooms aren’t as updated.

Sand Dunes Resort & Spa
201 74th Ave N

Sand Dunes Resort & Spa is a 417-room budget hotel on Myrtle Beach with a few resort-style amenities, like multiple pools, a lazy river, a kid’s splash and play area, and a spa. The dated rooms and public areas hold this property back from achieving its full potential. However, rates are reasonable and families in particular often appreciate freebies such as bike rentals and Wi-Fi.

Embassy Suites by Hilton Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Resort

Part of the Kingston Resorts complex and occupying a lovely beachfront location in North Myrtle Beach, this upper-middle-range hotel offers a solid set of features and spacious two-room suites. There are both indoor and outdoor pools here, plus guests have access to a water park. Wellness options include an attractive spa and an impressive fitness center -- but it's not on-site and requires a short walk. There's also extensive meeting/event space here. The 255 suites are spacious and have separate living areas and balconies, but decor is bland a chainlike. Expect to pay a daily resort fee that covers Wi-Fi and self parking. Families who prefer to be closer to the hubbub of downtown Myrtle Beach might want to consider Captain’s Quarters Resort instead, which has a bowling alley, arcade, and water park.

Hilton Garden Inn Myrtle Beach/Coastal Grand Mall

Hilton Garden Inn Myrtle Beach/Coastal Grand Mall provides the safe, clean, and typical mid-range stay that Hilton members expect of the brand. While indoor and outdoor pools, a hot tub, and a restaurant serving a paid breakfast and dinner are convenient, some might not appreciate a 10-minute drive to the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade. A free airport shuttle and a location across from the Coastal Grand Mall may make up for the beach inconvenience, as could the 112 contemporary rooms with modern amenities like microwaves, mini-fridges, and Keurig coffeemakers. Travelers who trust chain brand names might consider Best Western Plus Grand Strand Inn & Suites, which has similar amenities and lower rates, plus free breakfast and a beachfront location.

Hampton Inn & Suites Myrtle Beach/Oceanfront
1801 South Ocean Boulevard

This upper-middle-range Hampton Inn & Suites is a beachfront hotel on the southern coast of Myrtle Beach. It's within walking distance to the beach, restaurants, bars, and shops. Expect a seven-minute drive to the SkyWheel. The 227 rooms are bright and spacious with mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, and private balconies. There's a free hot buffet breakfast each morning though, no full on-site restaurant. Other freebies include Wi-Fi, parking, airport shuttle, and snacks and coffee. Features are plentiful: seven swimming pools, two lazy rivers, spa, and fitness center. Business travelers will appreciate the meeting facilities and business center. The nearby Best Western Plus Grand Strand Inn & Suites has lower rates and free breakfast, but not as much polish.
