Riad le Clos des Arts
Riad Zitoune Jdid, Derb Tbib 50, Near Dar Si Said and Bahia Palace

An historic riad in the heart of Marrakech's picturesque Medina, Riad le Clos des Arts was once home to a family of artists and has been lovingly restored by an expat Italian couple to honor that tradition of beauty and hospitality. Each of the seven rooms -- four rooms and three suites -- has been individually decorated with traditional Moroccan tilework, rich fabrics, and both traditional and modern furniture and artwork, to guarantee upscale modern comfort. An extensive homemade breakfast -- included in the room rate -- is served on the rooftop terrace each morning, alongside a small pool and both outdoor and shaded loungers; an exceptional Moroccan dinner can be served in the courtyard salon upon request.

Dellarosa Hotel Suites & Spa
5 Avenue Moulay Hassan, Hivernage

The 80-room, mid-range Dellarosa Hotel Suites & Spa is located in the quiet Hivernage quarter of Marrakesh, about a 10-minute cab ride or a 20- to 25-minute walk to the medina, and close to the Palais de Congres convention center. The hotel's architecture and decor are contemporary, with dashes of traditional Moroccan flair. The high point of the Dellarosa is the rooftop solarium, with a beautiful mosaic tile deck, sun lounges, and a panoramic city view. It also has an a small outdoor pool and hot tub, a spa with hamman, and a fitness center. Rooms are spacious but dark, and show some wear and tear.

La Maison Arabe
1 Derb Assehbe, Lund Dhokla

La Maison Aribe is a luxurious boutique hotel built around an interior courtyard with 12 guest rooms and 14 suites, all decorated in unique and color-saturated Moroccan style. Located in the heart of Marakech's old city, the hotel is close to the Jemaa el Fna marketplace and many other must-see sights. Other highlights include cooking classes, two restaurants, a piano bar, an intimate spa, and two pools, one on site and another at the property's country club. This is easily one of the top boutique options in Medina; the Riad Kniza and La Sultana are among the only small hotels that can compare.

Eden Andalou Suites, Aquapark & Spa
Km 4, Route d'Amizmiz

The 236-room luxury Eden Andalou Hotel Aquapark & Spa is a family-friendly resort offering all-inclusive or room-only options, about a 15- to 20-minute drive to the medina. Grounds and common areas are exquisitely decorated in traditional Moroccan style with beautiful wood carvings, hand-painted embellishments, and ornate mosaics. There is an Olympic pool with a teak deck, and a serene indoor pool in the spa. Kids will enjoy the waterslides, playground, and arcade. Guestrooms are gorgeous, with lots of wood, lush fabrics, and deep soaking tubs in the luxe bathrooms.

Cesar Resort & Spa
Route de l'Ourika

The Cesar Resort & Spa is an upscale 28-room boutique property that's about a 10-minute cab ride to the medina. While the quiet location is nice for romantic getaways, travelers planning to spend most of their time exploring the city may find that the taxi fees add up. Guest rooms are spacious and nicely decorated with metallic and colorful accessories, and come with coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and safes. There are two small pools and a rooftop bar (with overpriced cocktails), as well as a Moroccan restaurant and a full-service spa. While the property aims for a luxury experience, it often falls short with regards to service, cleanliness, and food. For a similarly quiet location removed from the agitating medina, but with more consistent service, guests might want to try the Sirayane Boutique Hotel & Spa.

Riad Ben Tachfine
227 Derb Jdid, Bab Doukkala, Medina

This brilliantly designed three-and-a-half pearl riad adds upscale amenities to a thoroughly traditional Moroccan experience. Travelers who want to explore Marrakech on their own terms will appreciate the medina location, and the restored 18th-century building is an attraction in itself. The characteristic riad courtyard and rooftop terrace have an elegant ambience, and the Riad El Mansour adds a full-service spa and small fitness room. The rooms are equally impressive, though light sleepers may want to avoid the ground floor, especially if other guests are using the pool late at night.

Dar Ayniwen Garden Hotel & Bird Zoo
Tafrata - Palmeraie de Marrakech

The eight-room boutique Dar Ayniwen Villa has the feel of a luxury guesthouse with top-notch amenities. The architecture and decor are dramatic, with spectacular museum-quality antiques in common areas and guest rooms, each of which is unique and individually-designed. The hotel sits amid acres of lushly landscaped gardens and an exotic aviary; the restaurant serves fine Moroccan cuisine in a lovely dining room or spectacular winter tent. The romance factor is high (as are the prices). This is a special location with a one-of-a-kind Moroccan feel.

Hotel Sofitel Marrakech Palais Imperial
Rue Harroun Errachid, Hivernage

The  Palais Imperial and its adjacent Marrakech Lounge and Spa were originally considered a single entity, but the two split in 2008, and each has its own entrance and a different look and feel to its rooms. That said, most common areas and amenities of this luxury property are shared and include a huge pool, multiple conference rooms, a variety of restaurants and bars, and plenty of family-friendly amenities. There are 183 rooms and suites, each of which comes with king-size beds, flat-screen TVs, elegant decor, and spacious marble bathrooms with shower/tub combos and Lanvin toiletries. The property is located in Hivernage, in the new town, which is about a 20- to 25-minute walk to Jemaa el-Fna square in the medina. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.

Mogador Express Bab Doukkala
Angle Blvd 11 Janvier Blvd Prince Moulay Abdellah, Bab Doukkala

Set just outside the north edge of the historic Medina's wall, the Ryad Mogador Hotel is a tidy, basic budget option in Marrakech. Rooms are large and clean, though there isn't any Wi-Fi in them and past guests have complained about poor maintenance. With an outdoor pool and three eateries, the 162-room property has slightly more facilities than the average budget hotel. Rates are affordable for close proximity to the tourist sights.

Opera Plaza Hotel
Angle Avenue Mohammed VI et Avenue Hassan II

The 115-room Opera Plaza Hotel provides a serene retreat in an otherwise busy and noisy, but central, location. The property features Moorish furnishings, a stylish spa, and outdoor lagoon pools with a swim-up bar. There are also numerous on-site restaurants along with a cafe, cigar bar, and nightclub. Rooms feature stylish dark-wood furniture, flat-screen TVs, and balconies with pool views. Keep in mind, however, that the location is highly-trafficked and street noise can be bothersome. Comparably priced rooms at El Andalous Hotel reportedly offer a quieter night’s sleep.
