Petit Palace Opera
Calle Arenal 16 Puerta del Sol And Mayor Square

The 68-room High Tech Petit Palace Arenal is located in the heart of Madrid. Major attractions such as Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, and the Royal Palace are all within easy walking distance. Decent-sized, modern rooms have flat-screen TVs and minibars, plus a couple of great extras such as hydro-massage showers and free in-room PCs upon request. Amenities include an exposed brick breakfast room (the buffet is not included in the nightly rate) and a business center. This boutique property is showing its age, and rooms on the lower floors facing the street get noise from a nearby nightclub. This mid-range pick is great for location, but it's worth comparing prices with the stylish Me Madrid.

Holiday Inn Madrid - Las Tablas

The Holiday Inn Madrid - Las Tablas is a mid-range, business-leaning hotel in a mostly residential suburb on the northern fringes of Madrid. There's little reason to stay here as a tourist, though business travelers will find several corporate offices in the surrounding area. Its 132 rooms are smart and modern, with free and reliable Wi-Fi, decent bathrooms, and pillow menus, but views are lacking. Facilities, although limited, include simple dining and drinking options, and a weekday shuttle bus is a real bonus. All in all, it'll be perfectly passable for those with business in the area, though for a little more money the nearby NH Madrid Las Tablas has a spa with a heated pool.

Hotel Vía Castellana

Hotel Via Castellana is a mid-range, business-oriented property set in Madrid's financial district next to iconic Kio Towers. Located on a busy main road away from the center, it's certainly not an ideal location for tourists, though the major transport hub just opposite means easy connections around the city. The 228 rooms and suites feature large bright windows and good soundproofing from nearby traffic, though some complain of poorly functioning air-conditioning. Facilities are also very limited with little beyond a breakfast service, small restaurant, and secure parking, and the generally low rates reflect this. A boutique business option travelers could consider with more stylish contemporary interiors is the H10 Tribeca, which is also a little closer to the city center.

NH Madrid Chamberi

The mid-range NH Madrid Chamberi is a smartly decorated, 2016-renovated business hotel in the quiet Chamberi district, which is quieter than the center of town, but still has plenty of transport links and restaurants. The 56 minimalist rooms are primarily decorated in soft neutral tones and simple wooden furniture, and they're outfitted with rainfall showerheads, smart TVs, free Wi-Fi, and minibars. Upgraded units add Nespresso machines and/or sitting areas. Expansive buffet breakfasts are served in the attractive, country-chic restaurant with a bar. Additionally, there are no wellness facilities of any kind. Guests looking for a hotel with a more central location might want to check out the Hotel Preciados VIP.

Artiem Madrid
Calle Juan Perez Zuniga 20

Artiem Madrid is a sharp three-and-a-half-pearl hotel located a 10-minute drive from Madrid's airport. Its 83 air-conditioned rooms have bright, modern interiors with features like mini-fridges, free Wi-Fi, and rainfall showers. The property's location in a quiet suburb -- a half-hour metro ride from central Madrid -- isn't ideal for tourists. However, the fresh style and little perks help sweeten the deal. A free 24-hour food, drink, and snack station is a big hit with previous guests. Other amenities include a small gym, bags stocked with fitness gear, a tasty breakfast restaurant, and on-site parking. Travelers preferring a central Madrid address that also features modern rooms and a fabulous rooftop deck with city views might consider the more opulent Catalonia Atocha instead. Rates there will be higher.

Gran Hotel Inglés
Calle Echegaray 8, Barrio de Las Letras

The luxury, 58-room Gran Hotel Inglés has an extremely walkable (and touristy) location in Madrid's central Literary Quarter. First opened in 1886, the hotel most recently reopened in 2018 after a renovation resulting in gorgeous modern decor based on Art Deco style. Stylish rooms have bathrobes, minibars, walk-in showers, and 50-inch flatscreen TVs, and upgrades add gorgeous standalone tubs, L'Occitane toiletries, and in-room perks like bottles of wine. The modern Mediterranean restaurant and elegant spa are favorites, while the 1920s-style cocktail bar and bespoke meeting rooms are pluses. Kid-friendly features and free Wi-Fi are offered, though parking and breakfast will cost extra. This is an excellent pick, but it's worth considering the nearby ME Madrid Reina Victoria, which has lower rates and a fun rooftop bar.

Hotel Sardinero Madrid

The 63-room Hotel Sardinero Madridis an upscale boutique with chic interiors and a wonderful location within walking distance of major attractions, shopping, and dining. Rooms are stylish and contemporary, and feature free Wi-Fi, LCD TVs, and seek bathrooms with large rain showers. Most have street views, and a few have balconies, but Innside Rooms overlook a somewhat dark courtyard. The breakfast room is cozy and cute, with yellow chairs and wooden floors, but food gets mixed reviews. The hotel also has a sophisticated lobby lounge serving cocktails and a short tapas menu, and a rooftop terrace with city views open for corporate events and meetings. The fitness center is somewhat disappointing, though, with just three machines and a small flat-screen TV. Guests looking to stay closer to the historic center may want to compare rates at Eurostars Plaza Mayor.

Lusso Infantas

The 40-room Lusso Infantas is an upper-middle-range boutique hotel set in a lovely 19th-century building in the heart of bustling Madrid. Its prime Chueca district location puts it within walking distance of lots of tourist attractions as well as the neighborhood's buzzing nightlife. Most rooms are bright with spacious bathrooms and small, street-facing balconies, however some overlook an inner courtyard and can feel gloomy -- but benefit from being quieter. Though on-site facilities are limited, dining is excellent and guests get discounted meals. Rates are very reasonable too for such a central hotel, though travelers headed to Spain in the summertime might want to consider the nearby Catalonia Gran Via, with its rooftop pool.

Wellington Hotel

Hotel Wellington is a classically beautiful, historic hotel in Salamanca, just a short walk from the famous Retiro Park. The grand lobby has a stately vibe, with crystal chandeliers, velvet furniture, and high ceilings, and the look continues throughout the hotel -- though it's a bit simpler in the 255 rooms. Rooms have small flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi, but standard rooms are a bit small and some feature two beds pushed together -- which is common in Madrid, but not what one would expect at a luxury hotel. Like a luxury hotel, however, Hotel Wellington features a long list of amenities: a 24-hour business center, well-equipped fitness center, spa with numerous features, seasonal outdoor pool, and seven dining options, one of which is a Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant. Plus, the hotel's rich history is impressive; after all, it has hosted the likes of Gene Kelly and Ernest Hemingway.

NH Collection Madrid Eurobuilding

The 427-room NH Collection Madrid Eurobuilding is one of the best-known business hotels in Madrid, with a top-notch fitness center, outstanding breakfast buffet, 27 high-tech meeting rooms, and large, stylish rooms with comfortable beds and upscale amenities. With three Michelin stars, DiverXO is a destination unto itself, and Domo Bar -- helmed by a renowned mixologist -- serves some of the best cocktails around. Additionally, the hotel features two other restaurants, a high-end spa, three paddle courts and an executive level offering perks such as free drinks and hors d’oeuvres and free access to the spa; this level is reserved for guests staying in particular room types. Located near Santiago Bernabeu stadium and the financial district, the hotel is convenient for business travelers, but tourists may want to stay closer to the historic center.
