Butterfly on Prat

Located in the bustling tourist and shopping district of Tsim Sha Tsui, the Butterfly On Prat is a 158-room, mid-range hotel that's ideal for a range of travelers. The hotel offers a stylish, modern atmosphere with simple but eclectic decor and colorful accents. Rooms are tastefully decorated and feature mini-fridges, microwaves, and flat-screen TVs. Wi-Fi is free and guests get a free smartphone to use. There are few extra property features -- there's no gym, pool, or eateries -- but plenty options exist nearby. Travelers may want to compare rates with Hotel Benito, a similar range hotel with comparable property features.

Mojo Nomad Central
286 Queen's Road Central Central

The upscale Ovolo Noho has a chic vibe with sleek, contemporary interiors. Located in the Central District, Sheung Wan MTR station is a five-minute walk from the hotel, and the lively Soho district is a nine-minute walk away. The 60 guest rooms are small  but well-stocked with high-tech gadgets like flat-screen TVs, DVD players, and Apple TV. The hotel also has a 24-hour gym and 24-hour lounge. Guests can take advantage of a host of freebies, such as breakfast, a happy hour, minibars, high-speed Wi-Fi, and a goodie bag of snacks. Self-service laundry is also free. Travelers might want to also consider the nearby Lan Kwai Fong Hotel, which has a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Hotel Jen Hong Kong by Shangri-La
508 Queen's Road West, Western District

The 283-room Hotel Jen Hong Kong is an upscale property located in the busy Western District of Hong Kong island, within walking distance of HKU Station on the MTR subway line. This hotel occupies a high-rise building with views over the harbor and city skyline. Rooms are a bit cramped, but average in size by Hong Kong standards, with streamlined and spotlessly clean modern interiors. Highlights include the rooftop swimming pool, with stunning views over the harbor and skyline, and the on-site Café Malacca restaurant, which has "Bib Gourmand" Michelin rating, and serves Malaysian and Singaporean cuisine. Another upscale hotel in the same neighborhood worth considering for its larger rooms and more competitive rates is the Courtyard by Marriott, Hong Kong.

The Park Lane Hong Kong, a Pullman Hotel

The Park Lane Hotel commands a prime location in Causeway Bay, just across from Victoria Park and a few minutes' walk from an MTR station. This upscale hotel has 834 guest rooms, some with scenic city and harbor views. The public spaces are somewhat generic, but many of the guest rooms have been recently renovated and given a fresh, contemporary look and luxurious bathrooms. The many on-site features include two restaurants and a bar, a rooftop terrace, fitness center, sauna, steam room, a business center and conference facilities, but no pool. As an alternative, the lavish Harbour Grand Hong Kong has cheaper rates, a pool, and harbor views from all rooms, though they're not quite as stylish.

The Kowloon Hotel

Three-and-a-half-pearl The Kowloon Hotel's location makes it a solid option in central Kowloon, but the hotel isn't a standout among its competitors. Common areas are stylish, but while its 736 guest rooms are sleek, there aren't any accents or punches of color that gives them pizazz. All units contain flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, and some have partial views of Victoria Harbour, but not all contain minibars, and Wi-Fi isn't included in all rates. The hotel doesn't have a gym, but there are several choices on-site for food and drink, including a Chinese restaurant, a cafe, and a cocktail bar. Travelers willing to spend more for a swimming pool and luxurious rooms with full harbor views might consider the nearby Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers.

The Charterhouse Causeway Bay Hotel

Though not quite in Causeway Bay, the mid-range Charterhouse Causeway Bay Hotel is still conveniently located in the middle of Wan Chai. The 294 rooms range from dated to swanky, but all but the priciest Signature floor rooms are quite small, and some of the newer rooms lack windows. With three places to eat on-site -- a full restaurant serving local and Western fare, a sports bar serving lunch, and a coffee shop -- the hotel also has a lounge and bar, a gym, and a business center. Every room comes with a smart phone with unlimited local calling, and the hotel offers free shuttle service to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. Travelers looking to stay in the same neighborhood might want to compare rates with the three-pearl iclub Wan Chai Hotel.

Regal Airport Hotel
No.9 Cheong Tat Road, Hong Kong International Airport, Chek Lap Kok

The Regal Airport Hotel is a huge, 1,171-room upscale property with direct access to Hong Kong International Airport via a covered walkway. Rooms are functional, comfortable, and well-soundproofed from planes, though less so from internal noise. There are six restaurants and cafes on-site and the choice of health and spa facilities is impressive. While the Regal's convenient location near the airport is hard to beat, it's also worth considering the Novotel Citygate, which is a five-minute drive away and offers more outdoor space.

Harbour Plaza Metropolis

The Harbour Plaza Metropolis is one of Hong Kong's many upscale hotels that caters to business and leisure travelers. Its convenient location is just one MRT stop from Tsim Sha Tsui tourist area, and a 10-minute drive from Hong Kong Island. Standard rooms are decorated in a simple, elegant style, while special themed rooms feature design elements inspired by different international destinations. All 821 rooms feature flat-screen TVs, minibars or mini-fridges, and coffee/tea facilities. However, Wi-Fi isn't free and some rooms sport worn-out furniture. Scenic harbor and city views from guest rooms are a highlight. There's a host of on-site features, including an outdoor pool, several restaurants, a spa, and a fitness center. Travelers may also want to consider Hotel Panorama by Rhombus, which offers a 40th-floor terrace overlooking Victoria Harbour.

Prudential Hotel
222 Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon

The Prudential Hotel is a solid upper-middle-range option for travelers wanting proximity to Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok. It's a relatively modern property, with 432 rooms outfitted with air-conditioning, minibars, and fresh bathrooms. Some have nice cityscape views. An outdoor pool is great for cooling off in Hong Kong's heat, and the hotel has a modern fitness center as well. The buffet restaurant scores mostly solid marks from previous guests, and there's a casual bar as well. Even so, there are plenty of dining and drinking options in all directions, and the Jordan MTR station is just below the hotel. Similar rates can sometimes be found at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile for travelers who'd prefer to be right in the middle of Tsim Sha Tsui's madness.

Butterfly on Waterfront
94 Connaught Road West, Sheung Wan

The 90-room Butterfly on Waterfront is an upper-middle-range boutique hotel located in Hong Kong's trendy Sai Ying Pun neighborhood. The vibe is hip and tech-focused -- guests are even provided with free smartphones during their stay. This Butterfly property features a dimly lit restaurant and lounge with a hip atmosphere. Rooms are bright and spotless, with mosaic-tile bathrooms. Large picture windows with window seats offer fantastic views of the harbor or cityscape; some rooms also have Nespresso machines and separate soaking tubs. Guests looking for a larger, more traditional hotel should consider the nearby Courtyard by Marriott, Hong Kong, though it will be more expensive.
