Regal Kowloon Hotel

Located in the bustling tourist and shopping district of Tsim Sha Tsui, the 600-room Regal Kowloon Hotel is an upscale property with a range of amenities for business and leisure travelers. The hotel is located near the waterfront with plenty of transportation, shopping, and dining options in easy walking distance. Rooms are spacious with subdued decor that's tasteful though somewhat generic, with nice amenities including minibars, flat-screen TVs, and roomy bathrooms with rainfall showerheads. There are three on-site restaurants, a bar, a 24-hour gym, souvenir shops, and a beauty salon, but the hotel has no pool or spa. Another downside: Wi-Fi and breakfast both cost an extra fee. Travelers could also consider The Royal Garden hotel, which tends to be slightly pricier, but it has a rooftop pool and sundeck.

Rambler Oasis Hotel
No.1 Tsing Yi Road, Tsing Yi

The Rambler Oasis Hotel fits the bill for a basic mid-range property with low rates, but you'll need to make some sacrifices. For starters, the location in Tsing Yi is far from any points of interest and the MTR isn't within walking distance. A great outdoor pool, fitness center, and kids' play areas add value to a stay here, though buffet dining can be chaotic and stingy. Rooms are pleasant, with compact layouts and features like electric kettles, flat-screen TVs, and free Handy Phone. Many rooms look out onto the industrial docks nearby. If you have a bigger budget to play with, you're better off checking out the still-reasonably priced YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel, which is more of a hotel and is near the Sham Shui Po MTR station.

Hotel Panorama
23rd floor โรงแรมคราวน์ พลาซ่า กรุงเทพฯ ลุมพินี พาร์ค 952 Thanon Rama IV Suriyawongse Khet Bang Rak

In a city that's packed with stunning views, not every hotel delivers. However, the Panorama by Rhombus in Tsim Sha Tsui, cashes in on its panoramic promises. The 336 rooms here are modern enough, if a bit worn, but the true showstopper are the city views all around. Many rooms have direct views of Victoria Harbor and across to Hong Kong Island. Features aren't numerous, though there are two popular dining spots, including a ground-floor buffet and sky-high fine-dining venue. A modern fitness center is available (with some equipment in the Sky Garden and the rest in a street-level room). Meeting rooms and a business center are also available. If you'd prefer better features and lower rates, but don't mind sacrificing views, check out the Holiday Inn Golden Mile instead.

Hotel Sáv Hong Kong
No.83 Wuhu Street, Hung Hom

For travelers who don't mind bedding down a bit outside of Hong Kong's main districts, Hotel Sav might fit the bill. This mid-range property certainly tries to have personality. It's done up in trendy white-on-white decor and Pop Art-inspired hues. However, rooms are no-frills, and its common areas are often busy and a touch chaotic. Perks like a pop-up shop and indoor/outdoor lounge with table games aim squarely at a younger demographic, and there are also two restaurants. However, the 388 rooms can be compact at best, and are spartan. You'll get free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and free soft drinks in the minibar, but small windows and wear aren't uncommon. Alternatively, the Xi Hotel has a better location and similar rates, though fewer features and rooms that can be dark.

Y Loft (Youth Square)
12/F, Youth Square, No.238 Chai Wan Road, Chai Wan

Part of an ultra-modern community youth facility, Y-Loft (Youth Square) is a hostel with rooms and amenities more akin to a mid-range hotel. It has rooms for up to six people, but most are private twin rooms with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges. All have en-suite bathrooms, but as it caters to students, there are no double beds here. Though near an MTR station, it's far out in Chai Wan (not to be confused with the more appealing Wan Chai), and not conveniently located for anyone save the youth groups making use of on-site facilities like the theater and music studios. However, budget travelers who don't mind longer rides on public transportation can take advantage of the affordable rates.

Disneyland Hotel
Disneyland, Lantau Island,

Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel is a four-and-a-half-pearl hotel situated on the Disneyland grounds and directly connected to the park via a free shuttle. The 400 rooms reflect an elegant Victorian theme (don't expect mouse ears) found throughout the hotel, and have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. Some have ocean views. There are three restaurants, an indoor and outdoor pool with a waterslide, gym, and free Wi-Fi and parking. The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique princess makeover room and storybook playroom are popular with kids. Hotel guests get Priority Admission passes to park attractions, but some amenities have pricey fees. For those wanting cheaper rates near Disneyland, Disney’s Hollywood Hotel is a good alternative that offers a Hollywood and Disney-inspired theme, and other perks like an arcade and Disney movie screenings.

Pentahotel Hong Kong, Kowloon
19號 Luk Hop Street San Po Kong

Oustside the city center In the industrial district of Diamond Hill in Kowloon East, the upscale modern 32-story Pentahotel Hong Kong, Kowloon stands in contrast to the surrounding factories and older buildings. Yet it manages to integrate many elements of Old Hong Kong -- vintage photographs, drawings, and road signs -- into its stylish decor of dark woods, red brick, glass, and steel. The hotel, which has a seasonal outdoor pool, gym, and meeting space, packs a reception area, cafe, bar, and restaurant -- modeled like a food court with Hong Kong specialties and a pizza bar -- into a single area, the Pentalounge. The Pentahotel's 695 rooms, with their textured wood, are chic but on the small side -- they include iPod docks, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and rainfall showers in the sleek bathrooms. Those looking to stay closer to the action might want to  check out the four-pearl Eaton, Hong Kong, which has comparable rates.

Rosedale Hotel Hong Kong
No. 8 Shelter Street Causeway Bay

The 313-room Rosedale Hotel Hong Kong is an upper-middle-range property situated in the center of Hong Kong's action in Causeway Bay. It's convenient to all public transportation, and is just a five-minute walk to an MTR station. Hong Kong's largest green space, Victoria Park, is just across the street, and there are multiple places for dining and shopping in the immediate area. Modern rooms are on the small side, but they have minibars and electric kettles for coffee or tea, and some have nice views of the city. The on-site restaurant serves all meals, and breakfast is included in some rates. There's no pool here, though, and travelers looking for one should check out the nearby Metropark Hotel Causeway Bay Hong Kong, which also has nice views of Victoria Harbor.

B P International

B P International is a huge mid-range hotel with an enviable location off of Kowloon Park, near shopping, tourist attractions, and major transportation lines for easy access to other parts of Hong Kong. While the 529 rooms are generic and bland, the harbor and park views are great. Facilities include a cafe, a restaurant, and a bar, along with conference facilities that make it a decent choice for business travelers, but there is no pool or fitness center. For more modern interiors and facilities, guests could consider the stylish Residence G Hong Kong, which has similar rates.

Hop Inn
36 Mody Road 5/F Lyton Building, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon

The two-pearl Hop Inn provides one-of-a-kind rooms in two different locations in Hong Kong's vibrant Tsim Sha Tsui neighborhood. It's part of a trendy wave of boutique hostels, and rooms are designed by local artists. We visited the Carnarvon Road location, and rooms range from compact Single Rooms without windows, to four-person rooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. Be warned, though, that bathrooms are glass-walled and have almost no privacy from the main room. There's a bespoke gift shop on site, and the Carnarvon location has a lounge with foosball, DVDs, and books. Travelers can compare rates at the nearby InnSight, which also has individually decorated rooms.
