Kaliko Beach Club All-Inclusive Resort
Route Nationale No 1

Kaliko Beach Club is a busy oceanfront value hotel on Haiti’s beautiful Les Cotes des Arcadin. Its 62 air-conditioned rooms are clean, but overdue for an update. Expect wicker furniture and worn bathrooms, though they also include flat-screen TVs and ocean views in some. While the ocean is swimmable and there are lots of lounge chairs, the beach is rocky. Kaliko’s grounds are sprawling and full of blossoming flowers, and outdoor activities include a big pool, two volleyball courts, basketball court, playgrounds, and Har-tru tennis courts. Buffet meals are served in an open-air restaurant with ocean views and get solid reviews. For a stay with updated rooms, a sandy (although smaller) beach, and floating water trampolines, it’s worth pricing out the nearby Wahoo Bay Beach Hotel.

Wahoo Bay Beach Hotel
Route Nationale No 1, Km 62

Wahoo Bay Beach Hotel is a two-and-a-half pearl oceanfront property with a beautiful sandy beach on Haiti’s Les Cotes des Arcadin. It’s 26 air-conditioned rooms are simple, but pleasant, with exposed beams, rattan furniture, flat-screen TVs, and ocean-view balconies or patios. The pool’s located on a seaside cliff and has amazing ocean and mountain views (sunsets are phenomenal) and lots of lounge chairs and wicker cabanas. Breakfasts are free, but Wahoo’s restaurant gets mixed reviews. Other features include a swimming dock, floating trampolines, a game room and free 24-hour coffee, tea and water. Alternatively, for a stay with an amazing, seemingly endless sandy beach, multiple pools, and tasty restaurants, the all-inclusive Royal Decameron hits the mark.

The Inn at Villa Bambou
Ruelle Marfranc # 1, Pacot

Set on a steep mountainside overlooking Port-au-Prince, The Inn at Villa Bambou is a three-and-a-half-pearl boutique hotel styled after a French chateau. Its seven rooms blend Old-World charm with modern amenities, and include dark hardwood furniture, flat-screen TVs, glass-block showers, and private balconies. All stays include delicious multi-course breakfasts, and dinners are served on a terrace with stunning panoramic city views. Other amenities include an amazing terrace pool and a small gym. Nothing in town quite matches Villa Bambou’s offerings -- it's seen plenty of famous guests, after all -- but for a classy stay with a big pool, lush grounds, and modern European rooms, HN Haiti El Rancho fits the bill.

Le Plaza Hotel
Rue Capois 10

Le Plaza Hotel is a three-pearl property in Port-au-Prince’s bustling downtown heart, steps from the National Museum and National Palace. It’s 96 rooms have colorful interiors, with flat-screen TVs with cable channels, air-conditioning, and mini-fridges, but we spotted wear on furniture and some bathrooms need TLC. The big pool is surrounded by lush gardens and loungers, and the hotel has two restaurants. A buffet breakfast with made-to-order omelets is included with all stays, and there’s also live music and happy hour specials in the evening. Another big plus is the hotel’s huge balcony that overlooks Place Jean-Jacques Dessalines, a great vantage point for watching the Carnival parade. For a more modern stay with nicer rooms, lush grounds, and a big pool, its worth pricing out the NH Haiti El Rancho Hotel.
