Flora Park Deluxe Hotel Apartments
26A Street 1, Near Deira City Centre Airport Rd

Spacious apartments set this simple, but well-maintained, three-and-a-half-pearl property apart from the more traditional hotels in Dubai’s bustling Deira District. The 118 apartment-style spaces offer full kitchens, washing machines, and up to three bedrooms. The modest amenities are solid and include a small pool, decent gym, and free Wi-Fi. A breakfast buffet is available for a fee at the restaurant, and there's 24-hour room service. The hotel is a great, affordable option for travelers in transit (it's an eight-minute drive to the airport), but its location isn’t ideal for tourists who want to be closer to the beaches or the main Dubai attractions. The Hawthorne Suites by Wyndham, JBR Dubai offers similar rates but has typical resort amenities and a more tourist-friendly location.

Movenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach
Jumeirah Beach

This property, part of the large Swiss chain of upscale hotels, offers easy access to a public beach in the Jumeirah Beach area as well as to The Walk, a pedestrian strip lined with cafes and restaurants. The 294 large, modern rooms have minibars, small balconies, and sleek bathrooms with separate tubs and showers. Also on hand are a spacious fitness center, a spa with sauna, and meeting spaces. The major complaint is about ongoing construction in the area, which guests claim can cause considerable noise early in the morning.

Holiday Inn Bur Dubai - Embassy District
Al Hamriya, Khaleed Bin Waleed, 20th Street

Geared toward families and business travelers visiting the embassy, the Holiday Inn Bur Dubai - Embassy District is a classic, upscale chain hotel choice in the older Embassy District. The surrounding neighborhood is not especially attractive, but it does offer easy access to the rest of the city via the BurJuman metro, which is within a five-minute walk of the hotel. The hotel's common areas are pleasant -- a bright lobby and interior courtyard with an atrium-style roof, an English sports pub, a rooftop pool, a fitness center, and a sauna -- and the rooms are spacious and reasonably priced. Ample meeting spaces attract business travelers, and free parking and free Wi-Fi are extra bonuses, making the Holiday Inn is a solid, familiar choice for every variety of traveler.

Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort
East Crescent Road, Palm Jumeirah

The Anantara Dubai The Palm Resort & Spa is an upscale, Thai-style hotel located on the secluded east crescent of the Palm Jumeirah, one of Dubai's two artificial palm-shaped archipelagos. Arranged around several lagoon pools and extending to a white sand beach, the Anantara is certainly one of Dubai's prettier resorts, and it caters well to both romancing couples and families with kids. Over-water villas are particularly impressive, though all of the rooms come with excellent amenities. Rates certainly aren't cheap by any standards, and the location is awkward for sightseeing, but for a high-end holiday resort with plenty of facilities it's an excellent choice.

Rose Rayhaan by Rotana
Sheikh Zayed Rd

The upper-middle-range Rose Rayhaan by Rotana - Dubai is centrally located on the busy Sheikh Zayed Road, close to a metro station and the Dubai International Financial Centre. Although not as palatial as some high-end Dubai hotels, rooms are classic and include convenient amenities like kitchenettes and free Wi-Fi -- plus stunning city views. There is an extensive international buffet breakfast each morning, though it's not included in all rates. The same restaurant serves a la carte lunches and themed buffet dinners, and there's a lobby cafe serving light snacks. An outdoor swimming pool (with a pool bar), spa, and fitness center are available in a separate building. It's worth considering the nearby Towers Rotana - Dubai, another Rotana property with more exciting dining options and more modern rooms.

Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates
Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Barsha, Attached to Mall of the Emirates

The Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates is a luxury chain hotel attached to a shopping center of the same name and with direct access to the adjoining indoor ski slopes. The property has high-end features throughout, from immaculate marble bathrooms to the twin infinity pools and a plushly decadent cigar lounge. It certainly wouldn't be the first option for beach-loving families with kids, however for the shopaholic skier with an eye for luxury -- and the bank balance to afford it -- it's a great choice.

Xclusive Hotel Apartments
Street 17B, Al Mankool Area, Behind Spinneys, next to Burjuman Mall

This property offers 56 self-catering apartments in Al Mankhool area, a quiet residential neighborhood in Bur Dubai. All units feature one or two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom; a full kitchen complete with a fridge, a microwave, an oven, a washer, and a cooktop; and a living area with a dining table. The heated rooftop pool and the fitness center are nice perks -- but the hotel lacks a restaurant.

Grand Millennium Dubai
Sheikh Zayed Road, Exit 36, Al Barsha South - TECOM - Media City

Tourists, business travelers, and families all feel at home at this versatile, luxury chain hotel, which especially caters for long stays thanks to its range of rooms, including full-kitchen apartments. Although there's little within the hotel’s immediate vicinity, it is less than five minutes away from the Internet City metro station, from which all of Dubai’s attractions can be easily reached within a few minutes. With an assortment of good restaurants and bars, a pool and hot tub, and a spa and fitness center, the Millennium provides a high-end home away from home.

Roda Al Murooj
Al Saada Street, Opposite Dubai Mall

Situated in the heart of downtown Dubai, Roda Al Murooj is an upscale hotel housed within a large leisure complex that's located a 10-minute walk from the Dubai Mall. The 251 guest rooms are spacious, and decorated with classic interiors. They come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi; plus some have balconies. The large buffet breakfast is served with various international cuisine, though it's not included in all room rates. The hotel has a Middle Eastern al fresco restaurant along with two lobby cafes, a traditional English pub, and a pool bar. The highlight is the outdoor swimming pool with water features and pretty garden setting. There's also a small fitness center and a spa with sauna, steam room, and hot tub. As an alternative, the nearby Dusit Thani Dubai has similar features with better public transport connections.

Holiday Inn Express Dubai Airport
Opposite Dubai Int'l Airport Terminal 3

The Holiday Inn Express Dubai Airport is a budget hotel located a seven-minute drive from the airport. The hotel provides free airport shuttles every 30 minutes, and daily shuttles to Deira City Centre and Festival Mall. Many guests stay here while on layovers or in town for business. The 381 rooms are generic and a bit dated -- think green carpets and basic light-wood furniture, but they come with mini-fridges, free Wi-Fi, desks, and flat-screen TVs. All rates include hot and cold breakfast buffets, and access to a bright 24-hour fitness center. Lunch and dinner are served on-site, as are alcoholic beverages in the bar. On the downside, the hotel's removed from most major sights, noise issues may occur, and smoking is allowed in some areas. It's worth considering the more feature-packed Millennium Airport Hotel Dubai.
