Towers Rotana
Sheikh Zayed Rd

One of the many upscale hotels located along busy Sheikh Zayed Road, the Towers Rotana is known for its hopping basement bar, a casual meeting point for the expat community. Rooms here are bright and contemporary, with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and king beds; most offer expansive city or Arabian Sea views. Hotel highlights include a small rooftop pool with views, a well-equipped fitness center, and two solid restaurants. But the hotel lacks a spa, and all but Club Rotana guests have to pay a steep fee for in-room Wi-Fi.

The Canvas Hotel Dubai
23 Kuwait Street, Port Rashid

This sleek, luxurious hotel delivers sophisticated, modern decor and impressive property features. The 164 spacious guest rooms offer modern amenities, while larger rooms offer separate living areas and access to an additional on-site lounge. The property hosts a well-maintained spa as well as a rooftop pool with captivating views of the city. The hotel’s one generally agreed upon pitfall is a bizarre location in the dead quiet streets of a section of Bur Dubai. Some guests have also remarked that weekend noise from the club on the main level can reach bothersome levels.

Arabian Park Hotel
Oud Metha Rd, Bur Dubai

Located in the quiet neighborhood of Al Jaddaf, the Arabian Park Hotel has 318 bright and vibrant rooms with fuchsia and marigold touches -- though some overlook a cemetery. There's also a restaurant, a pub, and a deli, meeting rooms, an Olympic-size outdoor pool, and a small fitness center. The hotel's proximity to the metro and the airport make traveling convenient, and it's used as a stopover/transit hotel for Emirates Airline, but the immediate surrounding area is vacant land. For those looking to experience a more lively area of Dubai, the Landmark Hotel Riqqa is a good option, although room prices are a bit higher.

Conrad Dubai
Sheikh Zayed Road, 308 Road, 49

Originally built in 2013, the Conrad Dubai is an elegant and modern five-pearl hotel in a prime location near the Dubai International Financial Centre, just opposite the World Trade Centre. The 555 rooms are spacious, with king-size beds and modern conveniences such as iPhone docks and Nespresso machines. This large but beautiful 52-floor hotel includes an expansive pool area, six contemporary dining options, and a full-range spa with eight treatment rooms. Although business travelers are the target market, it’s perfect for anyone looking for a relaxing and refined environment. That said, there's not much for families and beachgoers -- big rowdy groups might prefer a more casual environment closer to the shore.

One&Only The Palm Dubai
West Crescent, Palm Jumeirah

Situated on the Palm Jumeirah, this luxury resort has a quiet, private feel -- plus an enviable beachfront locale -- which is not an easy feat in the busy city of Dubai (though expect at least a 30-minute drive to most sights). Beautiful Moorish-style architecture is paired with chic, opulent interiors, while the lush, palm-peppered grounds include a gorgeous outdoor pool skirted by plush daybeds and air-conditioned cabanas. A luxurious spa, mani/pedi studio, hair salon, and a state-of-the-art fitness center are just some of the features offered, while three on-site restaurants include one from Michelin-star Chef Yannick Alléno. Large rooms and suites feature sumptuous decor, decadent bathrooms with soaking tubs and massive showers, and furnished outdoor spaces -- plus some have private pools. For a central Dubai location, check out the five-pearl Raffles Dubai.

Atlantis, The Palm
Crescent Road

The 1,539-room Atlantis, the Palm, is one of Dubai’s top family-friendly hotels, thanks to its massive water park and extensive aquarium. This luxury hotel is also popular with locals for its 23 restaurants and bars, which include celebrity-chef hot spots like Nobu, plus a nightclub, high-end boutiques, and a luxurious spa. From Deluxe Rooms to the only-in-Dubai Underwater Suite, rooms are spacious and pleasant, with spacious bathrooms and views of the Palm Jumeirah or the sea. There are also numerous beaches, from the exclusive Imperial Club beach to party-hard Nasimi Beach Club (which is only for adults). The Palm Jumeirah Island location puts attractions like the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall within a 25-minute drive. For a more adult-oriented resort nearby, consider the One&Only The Palm Dubai instead.

Signature Hotel Apartments And Spa
Al Seba St

Situated at the southern end of the Dubai Marina Complex, this three-and-a-half-pearl property offers practical rooms and some lovely spots for viewing the water and marina. The hotel is walkable to the beach and a metro station, but it’s also far from downtown Dubai. The contemporary apartments are well-appointed with full kitchens, washing machines, and large beds. Amenities like the pool and gym are small, and the breakfast buffet variety at the pricey on-site restaurant is disappointing. Some features, like the lovely spa treatments, free Wi-Fi, and parking are useful. This is a good option for families or long-term guests, but younger guests and couples may prefer the bars and on-site disco at the sleeker Marina Byblos Hotel.

Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel
Sheikh Khalifah bin Zayed St., Opp Burjuman Centre

The Park Regis is an upscale business hotel offering good value in central Dubai. Rooms are large and elegant, with floor-to-ceiling windows and solid amenities. There are several bars and restaurants -- including one on the 19th-floor offering panoramic city views -- a great fitness center, and lots of meeting venues. But the highlight here is the rooftop area, complete with a small pool, loungers, and striking views. There is a small wellness area with a whirlpool, a sauna and a steam room -- but the hotel lacks a full spa. Still, only a handful of comparable hotels can offer such competitive rates in central Dubai.

The Carlton Tower Hotel
19 Baniyas Road, Deira Dubai Creek

Located in a quieter section of old Dubai, The Carlton Tower Hotel is an upper-middle-range hotel with a traditional Arabian flair. The 158 guest rooms are spacious and have dark interiors. They come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi; plus some have Dubai Creek views. There's a hot and cold buffet breakfast each morning, though it's not included in all room rates. The hotel has three various themed nightclubs, a sports bar, and a casual lobby cafe. A highlight is the outdoor swimming pool, with lovely Dubai Creek views and pool bar. There's also a fitness center and sauna, steam room, salon, and spa. The event space is mostly used by locals for social events. As an alternative, the nearby Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek offers similar features along with dinner cruises aboard traditional Arabic Dhow boats.

Savoy Central Hotel Apartments
Al Rolla Road, Rolla Road, Al Raffa

The upper-middle-range Savoy Central Hotel Apartments draws guests with 154 compact but contemporary suites. All have sofa beds and generously equipped kitchenettes featuring microwaves, hobs, fridges, dishes, and even washer/dryers, though bathrooms are a little small and comparatively dated. Extra property features -- a rooftop pool, a sauna, a steam room, and a nicely equipped gym -- are nice perks that are atypical for an apartment-style property. The hotel's restaurant serves a good breakfast buffet (for a fee), plus lunch and dinner. The property's neighborhood is a bit far from downtown and a 15-minute walk from the metro, but there are still plenty of shops and restaurants nearby, including a 24-hour supermarket. Travelers looking for more on-site amenities and simpler rooms might consider the nearby Howard Johnson Hotel - Bur Dubai.
