Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles

Opened in 2014, the 182-room upscale Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles is housed in the historic United Artists building in the Broadway Theater District, a revived and trendy area with restaurants, The Staples Center, and the metro within walking distance. Music is the theme here, and many of the industrial-chic, dimly-lit rooms come with Martin Guitars and Ace x Rega turntables, plus a curated selection of vinyl records. All -- from Small to Ace Suites -- include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minibars, Rudy's toiletries, and Pearl + soaps. Upstairs, the rooftop bar offers events every night, and there's also a rooftop pool with great views. The on-site restaurant, L.A. Chapter, serves kicky American cuisine. Moon Juice offers cold-pressed beverages, while the Coffee Counter keeps everyone caffeinated.

O Hotel

The 67-room O Hotel is a boutique property in downtown Los Angeles, a 10-minute walk to the Staples Center. A low-lit hotel, it has a distinct, modern aesthetic and a fun restaurant, Bar I Kitchen, on its first floor. It also has the D'Vine wine bar in the basement, which is similarly celebrated. Like the common spaces, rooms are contemporary and distinct, but some rooms don't have windows and edge on feeling claustrophobic. The hotel charges a daily service fee, which covers Wi-Fi, a continental breakfast, two bottles of water in each room, and use of the fitness center. Parking is pretty affordable in a garage next door.
