The 41-room Art Hotel Congres is a boutique located on a quiet street on the outskirts of Paris. This value property has a few nice extras, including airport transfers (for a fee), 24-hour front desk service, concierge service, and a small furnished terrace. There is also a modern buffet breakfast room. Rooms are clean and have contemporary bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, safes, and mini-fridges but some decor is worn and some fixtures are damaged. The competitively priced La Maison Montparnasse has facilities that are reportedly better maintained, but its rooms do not provide air-conditioning. Wi-Fi is free. 

The 24-room Montmarte Mon Amour is an upper-mid-range boutique hotel in the most picturesque area of Montmarte, around the corner from the Sacre-Coeur Basilica. Vibrant, romantic interiors are doused in rich reds and pinks. Atmospheric art depicting famous French couples covers the walls. The love theme permeates the entire hotel, from modern rooms quenched in color down to the heart-shaped waffles served at breakfast (breakfast comes with an added charge). In-room amenities vary, and only the largest rooms have coffeemakers. There is no fitness center, restaurant, or business center, but the hotel has a cozy lobby library dappled in lavender and crimson hues with a fireplace and a selection of books. The hotel's romantic vibe most suits couples, but the hotel is family-friendly enough to offer baby cots and babysitting services for those traveling with children, and has several single rooms available for solo travelers. 

The mid-range, 29-room Art Hotel Batignolles is in the 17th arrondissement, off the well-worn tourist path but near La Fourche metro station, where Line 13 shoots south to the Champs-Elysees and the Left Bank. It's a hotel with few frills, but it covers the basics, and rates are low for its three-pearl level. Rooms are modern but small (bathrooms are tiny) and somewhat dark, despite the large windows. All rooms come with with mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, desks, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel has an elevator, which is not a given in a property this small. Within walking distance of the Square des Batignolles, a four-acre English-style park, and the Rue de Levis, one of Paris' liveliest market streets, the hotel is in a residential neighborhood with a small town vibe -- there are plenty of cafes, shops, bakeries, and restaurants, including Les Puces des Batignolles next door, which serves traditional French food. The hotel is about a 10-minute cab ride to Porte de Champerret, where several trade fairs are held, and the location might suit business travelers attending events there.

Hotel Cecilia is a mid-range, family-run property with elegant traditional style. This doesn't run to all corners of the hotel -- the 49 rooms are decent but simple and some overlook a dreary courtyard -- though the breakfast room and bar area is very nicely finished with red leather armchairs and a lovely 19th-century wood piano. Breakfast, including locally made croissants and breads, is free daily either in the breakfast room or in guest rooms. The location isn't central but is within eyeshot of the Arc de Triomphe and has excellent public transport links nearby. Rates are also very reasonable, especially compared to the numerous upscale hotels in the swanky surrounding area.  

Les 3 Chambres is a gorgeous, upper-middle-range bed-and-breakfast in Paris's 9th Arrondissement. The miniature three-room property, housed in a 19th century building, has designer decor and a curated mix of details that oozes charm. Rooms are decked out with ultra-luxe furnishings, Nespresso machines, and iPod docks. High-end Aesop toiletries are stocked in the sleek bathrooms, but narrow stall showers are a down point. An excellent breakfast spread is served daily, and guests say the host is helpful and welcoming, although strict rules such as no food in rooms may be a deterrent for some. Another similar property to consider could be the Hotel Sacha by HappyCulture, which has similar decor and a slightly lower rate, but neither property is ideal for families with small children or business travelers requiring more flexibility and amenities.
