Condovac la Costa
400 Metros Norte de la Iglesia Catolica, Club & Condovac

Open since 1980, Hotel Condovac la Costa is one of the oldest time-share properties in Guanacaste. With 107 one- and two-bedroom apartments, multiple pools, a kids' club, and an optional all-inclusive meal plan, Condovac attracts a lot of families, many of whom are locals. Though the beach isn’t within walking distance, the hotel’s hilltop location provides stunning views of Playa Hermosa. The infinity-edge pool is gorgeous and kitchens are well-equipped, but room decor is dated, the restaurant receives mixed reviews, and the property shows signs of age throughout. Another drawback is the steep hill that separates rooms from the public areas, though there are shuttles that make trips around the property. Nearby Casa Conde Beach-Front Hotel is completely flat and has better food, but nightly rates are more expensive.

Hotel El Velero
#1 On the Beach

The no-frills, 22-room Hotel El Velero is one of the only beachfront options in Playa Hermosa. Rooms are clean and simply decorated, and rates are often surprisingly affordable, considering the hotel’s prime location. Amenities include a small pool, an on-site restaurant, and freebies like parking and Wi-Fi. There’s not really much to do in the immediate area aside from hitting the beach. Nearby Playas del Coco has tons of bars, restaurants, and touristy attractions -- and Hotel Coco Palms is a short walk from the beach -- but the scenery isn’t nearly as beautiful as that in Hermosa.

Villas Sol Hotel & Beach Resort
Promotora La Costa

Though it only has 160 rooms, Villas Sol Hotel & Beach Resort feels like a much larger property. Thanks to its sprawling acreage on the cliffs above Playa Hermosa, this upper-middle-range hotel feels like a massive resort. With two pools, a beautiful restaurant, and rooms that range from standard Double Rooms to massive Three-Bedroom Villas, Villas Sol appeals to a wide range of guests. While some may find the all-inclusive option attractive, others may find the food mediocre and repetitive. Note that there's some minor wear and tear, and that the cliffside location means great views but also steep hills that make it difficult to get around (walking to the beach is almost certainly out of the question). Guests who’d prefer a (flat) beachfront property should compare rates at Casa Conde Beach-Front Hotel, a similar all-inclusive resort on Playa Panama.

Hotel ManGaby
Playa Hermosa segunda entrada

Located in the tiny beach town of Playa Hermosa, Hotel ManGaby is a 17-room value property with hospitable owners and a family-friendly atmosphere. Rooms are a bit dated, with worn furniture and tube TVs, but all have large balconies or patios that overlook the hotel’s gorgeous mosaic tile pool. The on-site restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and breakfast is free for hotel guests. There are also free parking and free Wi-Fi. The hotel’s greatest feature is definitely its prime location -- just a two-minute stroll from the beach. For travelers who absolutely must stay on the sand, nearby Hotel Velero is a beachfront property with similar accommodations and comparable nightly rates -- though it lacks ManGaby’s family-friendly atmosphere.

Hotel Bosque Del Mar Playa Hermosa
Primera Entrada A Playa Hermosa 300 Mts Oeste

The 32-room Bosque del Mar is an upper-middle-range, contemporary boutique hotel set on the shores of Playa Hermosa. The hotel offers spacious suites with separate living and bedrooms as well as glass walls that open to private wood-deck terraces, some facing the ocean. A soaring, modern tree house-like structure encompasses three stories of property features, which include an open-air restaurant and a breezy second-floor lounge, both which overlook the ocean through a gorgeous canopy of old trees.

Hotel & Villas Huetares
Calle Principal

Hotel & Villas Huetares is a 41-room value property patronized mostly by Costa Rican guests. Rooms have bland, dated furniture and decor, but villas have full kitchens and small dining areas. There are two large pools and a playground for kids, but there are few other amenities besides free parking and Wi-Fi. Although there’s no on-site restaurant, breakfast is included in the room rate and is served buffet style at the restaurant next door. While there’s not much to do in the immediate area, the hotel is just a two-minute walk from the incredibly beautiful Playa Hermosa. Even though Hotel & Villas Huetares has larger rooms and more pools, we prefer the more intimate, family-run Hotel ManGaby just across the street, which has a full-service restaurant.

Las Brisas Resort and Villas
Calle Hermosa, 800 Mts Este de la Costanera

Hotel and Restaurant Villa del Sueno
De la Primer Entrada 800 m Playa, Playa Hermosa 50101 Costa Rica

Villa del Sueno -- or Villa of Dreams in English -- is a mid-range property that lives up to its name. With secluded grounds, lush green landscaping, and Mediterranean-style villas, the hotel feels like a Tuscan retreat. Villa del Sueno offers multiple room types, ranging from small Standard Rooms to two-bedroom apartments with kitchens and living rooms. However, the property is split by a dirt road, making the hotel side and the apartment side feel separate. Villa del Sueno has two pools, an on-site restaurant, and offers free parking and Wi-Fi, but it’s not on the beach and does not have ocean views. Travelers who’d prefer to be right on the sand should check out nearby Playa Hermosa Bosque del Mar Hotel, but nightly rates tend to be double that of Villa del Sueno.

Bodhi Tree Yoga Resort
Bodhi Street

Nearly all of Nosara’s hotels offer some kind of yoga class, but the upper-middle-range Bodhi Tree Yoga Resort is the area’s premier retreat for serious yogis. The Bodhi Tree has the best yoga teachers, facilities, and equipment in Nosara, with six indoor and outdoor shalas and an international staff. Guests can also sample additional fitness classes, like Pilates, indoor cycling, and samba. The Bodhi Tree’s main focus is wellness -- expect green smoothies and energy shots at the juice bar, and only healthy, organic food at the restaurant. Travelers who aren’t interested in a holistic vacation will feel entirely out of step. Families are welcome, but the atmosphere may be too serene for boisterous little ones. Those traveling with children may prefer the nearby Olas Verdes Hotel, though it lacks The Bodhi Tree’s yoga-centric environment.

Olas Verdes Hotel
Playa Guiones, 500 West and 300 South of Cafe de Paris

The only upper-middle-range surf lodge in Nosara, Olas Verdes Hotel is an excellent option for travelers who want to learn how to surf while enjoying the area’s laid-back lifestyle. The hotel’s 17 spacious rooms are beautifully decorated with local woods and tropical accents. All have separate living and sleeping spaces and are equipped with kitchenettes. Though guests should note that only the bedrooms are air-conditioned -- one of the hotel’s many eco-friendly practices. Olas Verdes has a beautiful pool, an outdoor yoga deck, and an open-air restaurant, but its biggest draw is the on-site Safari Surf School, one of the best and longest-running in Nosara. Travelers looking for a yoga-focused vacation might prefer The Bodhi Tree Yoga Resort, which tends to be pricier but has more on-site amenities.
