Beaches Ocho Rios Resort & Golf Club
St. Ann

The all-inclusive Beaches Ocho Rios Resort & Golf Club is one of the most kid-friendly hotels in Jamaica, offering an Xbox Garage for teens and tweens, as well as Camp Sesame (where Sesame Street characters can be found), a water park, and babysitting services. There are activities for adults too, with golf and scuba lessons, the Red Lane Spa, and an adults-only piano bar. Since the majority of guests are families, the resort can be noisy. The 223 rooms have upscale Caribbean style. This Beaches property has a private beach, unlike Beaches Negril Resort & Spa which only has access to a public one.

Moxons Beach Club
Boscobel Jamaica

The 25-room Moxons Beach Club is a simple mid-range property with a laid-back atmosphere and gorgeous oceanfront setting about a 15-minute drive from Ocho Rios. Mostly adults -- many repeat guests -- come here for the bohemian vibe, excellent Jamaican food served at the restaurant, and quiet setting. A small beach is flanked by two piers, but water isn't particularly clear or inviting. Overlooking the ocean is a small pool surrounded by ample seating, and guests can dine out here or in a breakfast room with a pool table. A full bar, free Wi-Fi, and and free parking are also provided. Rooms range from simple spaces in the courtyard to ocean-view units with private terraces. All have air-conditioning, mini-fridges, showers, desks, and coffeemakers. Travelers more interested in an all-inclusive property should consider Jewel Dunn's River Beach Resort & Spa

Wilderness Resort
511 East Adams Street

One of three hotels on the enormous Wilderness Resort, the Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort has 444 rooms, ranging from simple Double Queens to huge rooms with fireplaces, wet bars, and whirlpool tubs in the bathrooms. The resort is hugely popular among families with kids, thanks to its numerous theme-park activities and eight water parks (some of which are indoors). That said, the possibility of lots of noisy kids running around might not make it the best choice for those seeking a romantic getaway or a quiet retreat.

Glacier Canyon Lodge
45 Hillman Road, P.O. Box 830

One of three hotels on the enormous Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort, the Glacier Canyon Lodge is a 460-room mega-hotel that's popular with families and corporate guests. Rooms range from simple Queen Doubles to huge three-bedrooms with full kitchens, which can accommodate large families and groups. The biggest draw for many guests are the property's numerous theme-park activities, and eight water parks (some of which are indoors), but the possibility of noisy children running around might make it a less-than-ideal choice for those seeking a romantic getaway, or a peaceful respite.

Mt. Olympus Resort
655 N Frontage Rd, Building #39

Mt. Olympus Resort is definitely the biggest resort in Wisconsin Dells, complete with sprawling indoor and outdoor water and theme parks, but it's definitely not the best. Discounts to local restaurants, free water park passes, and championship golf lures groups and families, but dirty rooms, crowds, and wristband requirements prevent most of them from booking future visits. For those who care more about roller coasters, a rock wall, game arcade, and waterslides than luxury rooms, the three-pearl Mt. Olympus Resort is still a good family pick. Check rates at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions for nicer rooms and some of the same water park features.

Chula Vista Resort
1000 Chula Vista Pkwy

For families who want a water park vacation in Wisconsin Dells, it doesn't get much better than Chula Vista Resort. The upper-middle-range resort has over 200,000 square feet dedicated to an indoor and outdoor water park, hot springs swimming pool, luxury spa, 18-hole golf course, a river walk, giant arcade, and several restaurants including a steakhouse. Passes to the water park are included with every booking and all-inclusive packages are available. The 620 rooms, suites, villas, and condos can include fireplaces, views of the Wisconsin River, and hot tubs, though some rooms are a bit worn. The place is bustling year round with weddings, conferences, and huge groups of families who descend on the property from throughout the Midwest. For a quieter stay, and free passes to Noah's Ark water park, check rates at Aloha Beach Resort & Suites.

Baker's Sunset Bay Resort
921 Canyon Rd

Baker's Sunset Bay Resort is a budget-friendly property that sits on a small spot off the shore of Lake Delton. Eighty rooms are spread over seven buildings and the property has a friendly condo/community feel. With a lake and sandy beach, it’s a find for couples looking for a retreat away from bustling city streets, but an even better option for families with kids. Suites offer fully-equipped kitchens and patios, while standard rooms have microwaves and mini-fridges. Baker's Sunset Bay is neither gleaming nor modern, but it has plenty of on-site activities.

All Star Inn & Suites
1311 Broadway

The two-pearl All Star Inn & Suites is a motel-style property with straightforward, exterior entry rooms. They're about as dated as they come, but outfitted with conveniences like microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. Suites have full kitchens for the ultimate value. Other family-friendly perks include a game room, a playground, shuffleboard, and volleyball, along with an outdoor pool. There's nowhere to eat though, and no breakfast offered. Its sister property is the nearby Black Hawk Motel, both of which are two of the best bargains around.

Polynesian Water Park Resort
857 N Frontage Rd

The Polynesian Resort Hotel was originally built in the early 1990s as the first indoor water park in Wisconsin Dells. Rooms and common areas are about 30-years out-of-date and tattered around the edges, though the hotel is in the midst of a much needed renovation that is expected to finish by mid-2015. The 227 guest rooms are dated with stained carpets, damaged ceilings, and peeling wallpaper. While prices here are budget-friendly, visitors should know that the hotel is just adequate in terms of having a place to sleep and entertain the kids at the indoor pool and seasonal outdoor water park. An alternative hotel is Aloha Beach Resort and Suites, which has better-maintained rooms and offers free passes to Noah's Ark water park.

Econo Lodge Inn & Suites
833 N Frontage Rd

The Baymont Inn & Suites Wisconsin Dells is a budget hotel right off the freeway just outside of the downtown area. Its rooms come in several configurations to suit couples, families, or larger groups, and most suites have whirlpool tubs. In the land of water parks, the small outdoor pool here is forgettable, but there's also a heated indoor pool with a sauna. Continental breakfast is included and children under 17 stay for free. The Polynesian Resort Hotel next door has its own small indoor water park, but it's also worth comparing rates at the All Star Value Inn on the other side of town.
