Lotte Legend Hotel Saigon
2A - 4A Ton Duc Thang St, District 1

The Lotte Legend is an upscale, classic hotel located in northern District 1. Its 283 rooms are spacious and bright, with floor-to-ceiling windows (some offering panoramic river and city views), classic decor, and high-end amenities. However, some units are a little bland and plain, and bathrooms are clean but overall underwhelming for a hotel that markets itself as a five-star property. The hotel has a great fitness center, four wonderful restaurants, a large outdoor pool, and family-friendly amenities, but no full spa. Still, it generally offers good value for money, and the location by the river and within walking distance of major attractions is a big plus.

Rex Hotel
141 Nguyen Hue Blvd, District 1

The Rex Hotel is one of Ho Chi Minh City's landmark hotels, known for its iconic Rooftop Garden restaurant, with scenic city views. This five-story luxury hotel has 288 spacious guest rooms and suites decorated in a tasteful and elegant style and well-equipped with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and electric kettles. The large marble bathrooms are luxurious and feature separate bathtubs, and large walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads. There's no shortage of on-site features, including two rooftop pools, a tennis court, three restaurants, two lounges, a spa, and a fitness center. However, the bars and restaurants are expensive and some rooms are in need of refurbishment. Travelers shopping around may want to compare rates at the Caravelle Hotel, another landmark property with a larger pool and a casino.

Caravelle Saigon
19-23 Lam Son Square, District 1

The Caravelle is one of Ho Chi Minh’s most iconic hotels. It is known among locals and tourists for its historic rooftop bar -- featuring expansive city views and live music -- but it offers a wide array of other great perks, including an outdoor pool, three restaurants, a stylish spa, and a well-equipped fitness center. Rooms are large, bright and upscale, with floor-to-ceiling windows, free Wi-Fi, LCD TVs, and king beds -- but a few have somewhat bland decor and underwhelming bathrooms for a hotel in this price range. Still, this is a solid option for a luxurious stay in central HCM.

Park Hyatt Saigon
2 Lam Son Square, District 1

With world-class service, elegant rooms with colonial decor and wonderful amenities, a top-notch spa, and an outdoor pool, the 224-room Park Hyatt Saigon is one of the top luxury hotels in Ho Chi Minh. Restaurants, while pricey, serve tasty Vietnamese and Italian cuisine, and the hotel’s two bars are popular among guests and non-guests alike. The InterContinental Asiana Hotel and the Reverie have more opulent rooms in a more contemporary style, but for a taste of old Saigon, the Park Hyatt is one of the best.

Harmony Saigon Hotel & Spa
32A-34 Bui Thi Xuan Street, Ben Thanh Ward, District 1

The 95-room, upper-middle-range Harmony Hotel is a calm respite from the hectic streets of Ho Chi Minh City, situated within walking distance of popular restaurants and sights such as Ben Thanh Market and Saigon Opera House. Features include an indoor pool with a lounge deck, sauna and steam rooms, and a range of spa services. All rates include a hot-and-cold breakfast buffet with local and international options, which is served in the all-day restaurant. Neutral-tone rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and minibars, but guests complain they're on the smaller side, let in lots of noise, and that some lack windows. It's worth comparing rates with the nearby Grand Silverland Hotel & SPA, which has a rooftop pool and restaurant.

Alagon Saigon Hotel & Spa
289-291 Ly Tu Trong Street, Ben Thanh Ward, District 1

Centrally located in Ho Chi Minh City's District 1 and within walking distance of most top sites -- Ben Thanh Market is just seven minutes away -- this three-pearl hotel offers clean and elegant rooms accompanied by a solid choice of amenities. The on-site restaurant serves breakfast (included in rates), lunch, and dinner, and there's a lovely rooftop pool with a sundeck. The fitness room is tiny and not well equipped, but guests have access to a sauna and steam room, as well as a spa and beauty salon. The 56 guest rooms come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, tea/coffee facilities, and free Wi-Fi -- but some lack windows. For larger and more charming rooms, check out Hotel Continental, housed in a 19th century colonial building.

Tan Hoang Long Hotel
84 Mac Thi Buoi, District 1

Tan Hoang Long Hotel is a well-maintained, 28-room budget hotel located in the center of Ho Chi Minh City, close to many tourist attractions. All the guest rooms have en-suite bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, minibars, electric kettles for tea and coffee, and free Wi-Fi. Some of the rooms are on the small side, and be aware that not all have windows. A basic breakfast is included in the room rate. Travelers could also consider the nearby Liberty Hotel Saigon Parkview, which has bigger rooms, a fitness center, and a bar with a city view, at very similar rates.

Silverland Sakyo Hotel & Spa
10A Le Thanh Ton St., Ben Nghe Ward, Dist. 1

This upscale boutique hotel with 60 guest rooms is located on Le Thanh Ton Street, known as “Little Tokyo” because of its many Japanese restaurants and shops. It clearly caters to a Japanese clientele, offering Japanese-style decor, a Japanese restaurant, and even Japanese-style electronic toilets. Air-conditioning, 42-inch flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, minibars, and electric kettles are standard in-room amenities, while upper-category rooms also feature microwave ovens. However, some rooms are windowless and there have been complaints of problems with street noise and poor overall soundproofing. On-site features are a rooftop plunge pool, a bar, a spa, and small gym. Rates here are competitive, but travelers may also want to check out Eastin Grand Hotel Saigon, which offers a large outdoor pool, several restaurants, and a free airport shuttle.

GK Central Hotel
94 92, Ly Tu Trong Street, Ben Thanh Ward, District 1

A newer building on a central Ho Chi Minh City street, the GK Central Hotel is a clean and convenient budget choice for both tourists and business travelers. Its 59 tasteful rooms can experience street noise, but rooms provide practical comforts like speedy Wi-Fi, universal power plugs, and free bottled water. Free breakfast and a 24-hour business center are additional pluses. The hotel gets the job done as far as functionality and value go, but there's no pool and guests will find more entertainment at the nearby Ben Thanh Market and Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral. For slightly higher rates, the Palace Hotel Saigon has a spa, rooftop pool, and fitness center.

Le Meridien Saigon
3C Ton Duc Thang Street, District 1

Le Meridien Saigon is a four-and-a-half-pearl hotel with a great riverfront location in the heart of the city. There's plenty of shopping and dining nearby, and top attractions and malls are within a short walk. Decor is contemporary, with a sleek finish throughout, and many of the 343 rooms feature river views. Spacious suites include high-end Bose surround sound systems, though lower-category rooms must pay for in-room Wi-Fi. Three restaurants cater for all tastes, and the laid-back lobby lounge is a great place to relax. The pool and gym have superb river views, and the spa offers a wide range of treatments, including a hair salon. There's not much to improve on here, but it might be worth considering the Liberty Central Saigon for something even more central.
