Le Meridien Vienna
Robert-Stolz-Platz 1

Le Meridien Vienna is a stylish, luxury hotel with a central, convenient location at the edge of Ringstrasse near transportation and restaurants. There is a happening lobby bar, spacious meeting rooms, and an indoor pool with a sauna and steam bath. The chic rooms, some with panoramic views, are breezy and serene with wood floors and sleek, modern bathrooms. The hotel has an emphasis on art and culture, and guests are given free access to exhibitions at the 21er Haus, a new museum of contemporary art.

Star Inn Hotel Wien Schonbrunn, by Comfort
Linke Wienzeile 224

Sparkling and modern, this mid-sized chain hotel offers 283 super clean rooms with modern amenities for a reasonable price. Though not located in central Vienna, it's a quick and easy ride via public transport to all of the main tourist areas, and the metro line -- the U-Bahn -- is mere minutes from this hotel's front door. The rooms themselves are minimalistic, streamlined, and clean. The area surrounding the hotel is rather isolated, but there’s a grocery store around the corner for essentials and all rooms have mini-fridges, so you can stock up if desired. Free Wi-Fi is available but there's no real business center, just a computer/printer in the lobby. Other standard features like a fitness center and free breakfast are missing as well, though a buffet is available for a fee. That being said, this is a value hotel that will allow you to experience all of Vienna without paying steep downtown prices.I normally would have only given this a 2 1/2 star rating because of the lack of amenities but SO many people were pleased with their stay here that it is apparently a good value hotel. I gave it a 3 Pearl rating but you may wish to downgrade because of lack of a restaurant, gym, business center, pool, spa or parking? It is listed as a 3.5 on Trip Advisor. - KDN/ Great call. I'll also keep at 3 pearls because the space has a groovy, minimal look. (I think a minimalistic aesthetic is a viable decor choice.) Even with the lack of amenities, if guests love their stay there, then that cinches it to me. -- CH

Hollmann Beletage Design & Boutique Hotel

This quirky little boutique hotel in the heart of Vienna offers up a significant list of amenities for the price, including a small spa and even a movie screening room. Located within walking distance the city’s main tourist areas but on a more private side street, Hollmann Beletage manages to stand out from the crowd thanks to its cool designer vibe. Clean lines, bold colors, and unexpected touches make this hotel interesting. Fortunately it also delivers where it matters, and clean guest rooms have plush bedding, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and minibars. The ample free daily breakfast is made to order and intentionally available until late morning so guests can sleep in. If you must work there are meeting/event spaces available, and all guests can borrow iPads for the length of their stay.

Hotel City Central
Taborstrasse 8

This three-pearl, 58-room property is near the Danube River, just a five-minute stroll from Schwedenplatz U-Bahn station. An ideal option for business travelers and families, it's nevertheless a tad old-fashioned and dated, with plain decor and antique furnishings. Rooms are similarly decorated, with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Some rooms have balconies with lovely rooftop views. Larger family rooms and apartments are available, which are ideal for groups and long-stay travelers. There is no fitness center or full-service restaurant, but a generous daily breakfast buffet is served in the conservatory, which is well-liked by guests. There's also a small bar, computer station, and on-site parking. Travelers preferring a more central location should consider the Graben Hotel, which is just around the corner from Stephansplatz.

Hotel Sacher Wien

Located across from the State Opera House in Vienna’s historic heart, this family-run luxury property has long been a favorite destination for discerning visitors. Its appeal comes in large part from its association with the celebrated Sacher-torte: a cake invented by Franz Sacher, whose son opened this hotel in 1876. However, its sumptuous grande-dame style and first-class features (two respected restaurants, a storied bar and full-service spa among them) make The Sacher a legend in its own right. Like the hotel as a whole, the 152 spacious rooms are formal but not fussy, mixing vintage Victorian elements with mod-cons like sleek marble bathrooms, minibars, flat-screen TVs, docking stations, and free Wi-Fi.  If 21st-century luxury is more your style, try the Melia Vienna instead: housed in Austria’s tallest building, it opened in 2014.

Hotel Capricorno

Hotel Capricorno is located about as centrally in Vienna as you can get, and it caters toward (typically younger) couples and groups looking to go out and explore the city. Although the facade doesn't promise much, its common spaces and rooms are stylish, modern, and comfortable. The 42 rooms have particularly great showers, well-stocked minibars, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Although a continental breakfast is free, there are no full restaurant, gym, or spa here. However, its positioning is the key to this property, as it's located near nightlife, shopping areas, and public transport for quick links to the rest of the city and the airport. For those seeking something with a few more amenities but still central, check out the Pentahotel, which also caters toward younger visitors but offers a fitness center and 24-hour bar.

Hotel Erzherzog Rainer
Wiedner Hauptstrasse 27/29, 1040 Vienna

This classic, mid-range hotel -- one of five in Vienna privately owned by the Schick family -- offers comfortable accommodations in the city’s conveniently-located 4th District. Opened shortly before the outbreak of World War I, its 84 rooms have a modicum of 1900s charm; unfortunately, the amenities in them are a wee bit time-warped as well (all, for instance, come with minibars and flat-screen TVs, but air-conditioning and tea/coffee-making equipment are noticeably absent). In-house fitness facilities are also lacking, though the hotel does boast a traditional "wirtschaft" restaurant that is frequented by locals and guests alike. Travelers looking for a contemporary alternative with a more familiar brand name should consider the three-and-a-half-pearl Best Western Plus Amedia Wein property instead.

Steigenberger Hotel Herrenhof Wien

Located in the heart of Vienna’s old town within walking distance of many tourist sights, Steigenberger Hotel Herrenhof Wein is a luxury property with 186 guest rooms. The hotel is conveniently located next to a subway station, and many of the city’s restaurants, shops, and historic cafes are easily accessible on foot. Guest rooms have bold, colorful decor and come with minibars, which are refilled daily in the higher-end rooms. There’s an on-site restaurant and bar, and a luxury spa that includes a sauna, steam bath, and fitness room. Compared to other luxury properties in the old town, rates here are quite reasonable -- but Le Meridien Vienna offers comparable rates and has an indoor pool to boot.

Hilton Vienna Danube Waterfront
Handelskai 269

The 367-room Hilton Vienna Danube Waterfront is an upscale chain hotel located right along the Danube River, but far from the city center. The location does offer some bonuses, like relative quiet, reasonable prices, and huge rooms. The latter have sitting areas, big bathrooms, and amenities like minibars and 37-inch flat-screen TVs. The hotel provides lots of lounge spots as well, including on a spacious outdoor terrace, plus a nice casual restaurant and lobby bar, a seasonal outdoor pool, a spa with a whirlpool tub and fitness center, plus kid and business friendly amenities. Guests biggest complaints are about extra fees for things like breakfast, parking, and in-room Wi-Fi. Travelers who like the amenities here but want to be closer to attractions might consider the Hilton Vienna.

Hotel Graf Stadion

Hotel Graf Stadion is a budget hotel close to Vienna's Town Hall and Parliament Buildings, and within walking distance of the Museum Quarter. It's a family-run and historic Biedermeier hotel with a friendly atmosphere and those that visit often return time and again. A buffet breakfast is served in a pleasant dining room, and the beautiful antique wooden elevator is worth checking out. The 39 rooms are bright and surprisingly spacious with plenty of storage space. Triple Rooms are a plus for families or groups. The lack of air-conditioning is common in old hotels in the city, so travelers visiting at the height of summer might want to check out nearby Hotel Alpha where rooms are air-conditioned and have mini-fridges.
