The Lodge at Vail, A RockResort

One of the Lodge's best assets is its location right in Vail Village, two minutes from the closest ski lift. It's got some great features -- an on-site spa, a huge, modern 24-hour fitness center, two outdoor pools and six Jacuzzis -- but it is an older building and in need of some updating. Rooms in the luxury wing have fresher decor (including rustic details such as wood beams or stone fireplaces) and air conditioning, but other rooms lack air conditioning, are a bit small for the price, and are showing their age.

Arrabelle at Vail Square, A RockResort

This rustic-luxe, chalet-inspired lodge is one of Vail's premier options, with a location in the heart of Vail Square, near the Eagle Bahn lift. The 62 luxurious rooms feature massive bathrooms, stone fireplaces, and scenic balconies, and both the lavish spa and rooftop lap pool pack serious wow factor.

Evergreen Lodge

The mid-range Evergreen Lodge is a good value, and is ideal for those looking to spend time exploring all of Vail, since it is within walking distance of both Vail Village and Lionshead Village. Its list of amenities includes a kid-friendly game room, heated pool, a casual restaurant, and a sports bar with pool tables. The decor is somewhat dated, however, and there is no air conditioning.

Manor Vail Lodge

The upscale Manor Vail Lodge is a family-friendly condo complex and ski retreat located on over four acres of land at the base of Vail Mountain and across the street from ski lifts. Its 125 rooms range in size from studios to one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites, each with full kitchens, living areas with fireplaces, and private balconies, though the units are individually owned so decor varies and some might be a bit dated. A host of features includes a popular restaurant and bar, two heated outdoor pools, four hot tubs, a spa, fitness center, and event facilities. Guests should note that check-in is relatively late and there's a daily resort fee that covers Wi-Fi, housekeeping, and use of facilities. Couples may prefer the 28-room [Vail Mountain Lodge & Spa](Vail Mountain Lodge & Spa).

Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail

The Four Seasons Vail opened in 2011, and is one of the area’s top hotels. All the rooms have warm colors, stone fireplaces, balconies, and huge marble bathrooms with standalone soaking tubs, and almost every amenity impresses, particularly the upscale spa (one of the best in Vail Valley) and lovely outdoor pool area. But it's not directly on the slopes -- guests face a 10-minute walk, or a short hotel shuttle ride.

Hotel Talisa, A Luxury Collection Resort, Vail

With a beautiful creek-side setting and a private ski lift, the Vail Cascade Resort & Spa is a great overnight choice for those looking to get away and relax with all the amenities of an upscale hotel. Highlights include a beautiful infinity pool with adjacent fire pits and a 78,000-square-foot fitness center and spa. There is plenty to do at the resort, but it is in a somewhat removed location that is not truly walking distance to any of the Vail Villages.

Gasthof Gramshammer
231 E Gore Creek Dr

Hotel Gasthof Gramshammer is a local icon, situated on a picturesque pedestrian street in the heart of Vail. The charming boutique property has an Austrian ski-lodge vibe and has been family owned since it opened in the mid-1960s. The hotel's 38 guest rooms, which include family-size rooms and suites with kitchenettes, are outdated but comfortable. All have flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers, but they lack mini-fridges. There's an Austrian-inspired on-site restaurant and a bar that bustles during the nightly entertainment, and other features include a small gym, sauna and steam room, two whirlpools, and a massage room, but there's no pool. Breakfast and Wi-Fi are free, but parking costs extra. Travelers looking for an upscale stay nearby can consider The Lodge at Vail -- a RockResort.

Sitzmark Lodge at Vail

The 35-room mid-range Sitzmark Lodge at Vail is a boutique, family-friendly ski resort located in the center of Vail Village, within walking distance of Gondola One. The Sitzmark is family-owned and run, with an alpine feel; the comfy lobby sofas cluster around cozy fireplaces, ideal for drinking hot chocolate or mulled wine after a day on the slopes or hiking trails. Guest rooms are spacious and homey, with private balconies and picturesque creek or mountain views. It's a great value for the central location; the nearby Austria Haus Hotel is typically pricier.

Tivoli Lodge
386 Hanson Ranch Road

Tivoli Lodge is a modern, upscale boutique ski lodge set on the eastern edge of Vail Village, just a brief walk from both the ski lifts and the heart of town. Its 64 rooms are spacious and well equipped, with kitchenettes and elegant marble bathrooms, some of which feature separate tubs and walk-in showers. Facility highlights include a beautiful lobby, a popular bar that serves a breakfast buffet (for a fee), free ski valet and storage services, a fitness center, and outdoor whirlpools. Rates are competitive, and, as such, it often sells out in peak season. Another good option to consider right in Vail Village is the upper-middle-range Austria Haus Hotel, which includes free breakfast.

Landmark Condominiums

Since Landmark Condominiums' 85 units are individually owned, no two are alike. One- to five-bedroom condos are available, all with full kitchens, and many are located close to slopes and within walking distance to major attractions. Decor ranges from dated (in the Enzian units) to upscale mountain style, with wood and stone (in the Landmark units). But don’t expect a spa or fitness center -- the outdoor pools and Jacuzzis at The Landmark and Vantage Point buildings are the only true amenities.
