Celes Beach Front Resort
Thaveerat-Pakdee Road 175/3

Celes BeachFront Resort is a chic upscale hotel set along the scenic white sands of Bophut Beach, a 20-minute walk or five-minute drive from Fisherman's Village. The hotel offers a range of 60 luxe private villas and suites, which have a polished contemporary aesthetic, high-end appointments, and terrace seating areas. Villas feature plunge pools lined with tropical greenery, plus some have ocean views and direct beach access. The hotel has an excellent range of facilities, including a gorgeous beachfront pool and poolside bar, an international restaurant, a full-service spa, gym, and library lounge. Room rates include a buffet breakfast and Wi-Fi, plus kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and daily activities. Peace Resort is another option in the area worth considering, as it has a gorgeous pool and beach access..

The Waterfront
71/2 Moo1

The Waterfront is a small and quiet mid-range resort set at the end of one of Samui's nicer beaches, Bophut, right next to Fisherman's Village, Samui's top spot for chic beachside restaurants and quaint bars. The airport is only a 10-minute drive away, and the resort provides free roundtrip airport transportation. There are 18 units here that face the beach, either Bungalows or rooms, which have plenty of light and come equipped with flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning. A small, but lovely, pool faces the beach and an on-site restaurant is open all day -- though it closes for dinner. While the rooms aren't big, the prices are reasonable (and include continental breakfast) compared to what Bophut hotels normally ask. The Waterfront is definitely doing something right, as much of their clientele are repeat guests.

Saboey Resort and Villas
51/4 Moo 4 Bangrak Beach, Koh Samui

The upper-middle-range Saboey Resort and Villas is a beachfront hotel in a scenic and secluded location a four-minute drive from the Big Buddha Temple. There are just 20 suites and villas -- some just steps from the shore -- making it an intimate and romantic spot for couples, though families do frequent this spot, too. It's a mostly quiet hotel, but it's worth noting that a peaceful day at the beach or pool could be interrupted by the sound of planes flying overhead due to the nearby airport. Rooms exude traditional Thai style, but are equipped with modern amenities such as air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and safes. As an alternative, Bandara Resort & Spa's prices are slightly higher, but it offers additional features such as a gym and spa.

The Scent Hotel
58/1 Moo 4 Bangrak Beach

The Scent is a charming upscale boutique hotel at the edge of Bang Rak village on Koh Samui's north coast. It has only 15 rooms, which are elegant and classy and include flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi. Some rooms have sea-view balconies. In addition to a saltwater swimming pool and beach, the resort has a small spa, and a selection of loaner books and DVDs. Le Jaroen restaurant, overlooking the beach, is one of Koh Samui's true haute cuisine establishments, serving superb menus along with signature drinks in a faultlessly romantic setting. This is a quiet area of Koh Samui, with just a few restaurants on the road outside, and travelers wanting to be closer to the scene in Chaweng should consider Novotel Samui Resort Chaweng Beach Kandaburi.

Eden Beach Bungalows
180/5 Moo 1

Eden Beach Bungalows is a boutique upper-middle-range hotel set along a peaceful and scenic white-sand beach in Bophut, a five-minute drive from the buzzing streets of Fisherman's Village, which are lined with cafes, bars, and boutiques. The 25 rooms range from streamlined bungalows to large villa compounds with plunge pools, open-air lounge areas, and well equipped kitchens. Rooms are equipped with modern amenities and have chic whitewashed interiors, with a rustic yet contemporary look. Facilities are all beachfront: a large lagoon-like swimming pool, a small open-air massage hut, and a lovely international restaurant and bar that serves Thai, French, and Mediterranean cuisines. Another nearby hotel worth considering is Bandara Resort, it's a contemporary property with extensive facilities, including two large swimming pools.

Smile House Resort
Bophut Beach 95 Moo 1

The three-pearl Smile House Resort, a lush little compound just down the street from Bo Phut's Fisherman's Village, has 56 bungalows and rooms spread among lush greenery. Style ranges from classic Thai decor to newer villas with more contemporary accents, and all include flat-screen TVs and minibars. Some directly overlook the beach, though others are across the road. The resort features two swimming pools, both of which have kids' sections, and there are sun loungers set up on the beach. The beachside restaurant serves a free breakfast, and guests can walk to lots of restaurants and shops. For travelers with a little more cash to spend, the Baan Chaweng Beach Resort & Spa has a nicer beach and a spa, and is right in the heart of wild Chaweng.

Montien House
5 Moo 2

Montien House is a two-and-a-half-pearl beach hotel with 72 rooms that sits along crowded and lively Chaweng Beach; it's close to dozens of restaurants, bars, and shops. Rooms range from traditional hotel rooms and cottages to private pool villas. The resort has beach loungers out on the sand, a beautiful swimming pool set just off the beach, and an adjacent restaurant that charges extra for breakfast and is known for seafood. Montien House is popular with tour groups (so expect crowds), but there isn't much to set it apart in terms of design or facilities. Those who want to spend a bit more might like the more stylish Samui Verticolor, though it's not directly on the beach.

Prana Resort Nandana
14/3 Moo 4, Tambon

The upper-middle-range Prana Resort Nandana has a range of business and leisure facilities, but lacks green space and doesn't have much ambience. The location offers little of interest within walking distance, but is across from Bangrak Beach and only a five-minute drive from Fisheman's Village. The 60 guest rooms have chic stylish interiors and balconies or patios. Nandana Pool Access Rooms feature submerged pool seating areas and steps directly into the pool. Facilities include a swimming pool and swim-up bar, two restaurants, a spa, gym, kids' club, and conference rooms. Wi-Fi and breakfast are free. Travelers considering a stay here should note that as of September 2018, the beachside facilities were under construction (noisy) and the beach itself was dirty and poorly maintained. Couples looking to upgrade should consider the Sensimar Koh Samui (Adults Only Resort).

The Privilege Hotel Ezra Beach Club
5/1 Moo 4, Bangrak Beach

The Privilege Hotel Ezra Beach Club is an upper-middle-range hotel set along the scenic white sands of Bangrak Beach, located a five-minute drive from Fisherman's Village and 20 minutes from Chaweng's nightlife scene. The hotel has an ultra modern look, chic interiors with glitzy decorations, and a young upbeat vibe. The long narrow swimming pool is centered in the property and tends to be a hub of activity throughout the day, especially during weekend pool parties with a DJ and seafood barbecue. The 37 suites and pool villas are spotless and modern, and some rooms have ocean views. Note that there's a daily resort fee, which is unusual in Thailand. Guests who want a bit more peace, quiet, and nature may want to also consider the nearby Saboey Resort and Villas
