The four-pearl Hotel Vestibul Palace is a chic boutique hideaway set within the ancient walls of Diocletian’s Palace in Split’s old town. This tranquil, romantic hotel is a great example of a sympathetic -- yet contemporary -- restoration, with smart furniture set against the original architectural features throughout the entire hotel. There are just seven rooms and suites -- all have air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and modern bathrooms. The restaurant has tables in the pretty square out front, and breakfast is free. The hotel does its best to counteract the issues of its pedestrianized old town location, but the downsides here are the usual: no elevator and no parking nearby. It’s worth comparing rates at the Marmont Hotel, which has a similar old town setting and adds a rooftop terrace.
