Scottsdale Camelback Resort
6302 E Camelback Rd

At the base of Camelback Mountain, the 11-acre property of Scottsdale Camelback Resort delivers amenities and services that eclipse those of nearby competitors in this upper-mid-range price category. This resort offers two pools, a walking path with exercise equipment, tennis and racquetball courts, a spa, a playground, and outdoor grills. The 111 rooms -- technically condos/timeshares -- are very large and individually decorated (style can vary greatly). Studios, two-, and three-bedroom condos have wood-burning fireplaces, balconies, soaking tubs, full kitchens, and laundry facilities. Rooms are clean overall, but some guests have complained about dated spaces and worn paint here and there.

Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Bungalows
6114 N Scottsdale Rd

Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Spa is an upscale resort with 185 bungalow-style rooms and suites near a couple of shopping complexes. Midcentury modern decor dominates the hotel's interiors, and the vibe is hip and mellow. Rooms have big flat-screen TVs, minibars, outdoor spaces, and bathrobes; larger suites have separate living rooms. Upgrade options add access to cabanas or the relaxing Retreat Pool off the spa. Expect three outdoor pools, including a crowded main pool, pool bar and grill, modern American restaurant with room service, an apothecary spa, and 24-hour gym. A resort fee covers free Wi-Fi, a Tesla house car, and concierge service, and the hotel is pet-friendly. For a nearby spot with lower rates (and style), the Scottsdale Plaza Resort is a good option.

Scottsdale Plaza Resort
7200 N Scottsdale Rd, near Indian Bend Rd

The Scottsdale Plaza Resort is an upscale property located in central Scottsdale, with many features to suit families, couples, groups, and business or wedding events of all sizes. Amenities include multiple pools, tennis courts, a 24-hour gym, full-service salon and spa, and extensive indoor and alfresco function spaces set on 40 acres of beautifully kept grounds. The resort’s 404 rooms, suites, and lodges range from traditional hotel-style rooms to huge bi-level house-like units. Mini-fridges and Keurig coffeemakers are standard, while higher categories come with beehive fireplaces, full kitchens, multiple patios, and spa baths. Aside from Scottsdale Plaza’s rustic restaurant, lively JD’s restaurant and bar, and poolside cafe, there are plenty of additional dining options along with great shopping nearby (and a free local area shuttle to get you there). As a resort alternative with a trendier vibe (and higher rates), try the Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Bungalows.

Sonesta Suites Scottsdale Gainey Ranch
7300 East Gainey Suites Drive

The Gainey Suites Hotel in Scottsdale is somewhat of a hidden gem that offers a serene, spa-like vibe at reasonable rates. The independently-owned, upper-mid-range Gainey boasts an oasis-like courtyard with an outdoor pool. It’s within walking distance to boutiques and several upscale restaurants, and is also near some of the best golf courses in the U.S. The 162 suites feel like stylish apartments; some come with separate bedrooms and kitchens. The Gainey may not have extensive in-house activities like what guests find at a resort, but it does offer a well-maintained pool and small fitness center, as well as fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies at check-in and a free pair of cuddly Gainey Teddy Bears upon room arrival. It may be worth comparing rates with the hotel’s nearby competitor, Millennium Resort Scottsdale McCormick Ranch, which also has a pool plus lovely mountain views (whereas many hotels at Gainey look out at the parking lot).

Scottsdale Villa Mirage
7887 E Princess Blvd

The Scottsdale Villa Mirage is a mid-range condo hotel in a quiet suburban neighborhood north of downtown Scottsdale. Plenty of leisure activities, from bocce ball to mini-golf, along with a large outdoor pool and a playground, make it well-suited for retirees, golfers, and families looking for a change of climate. Just know that every stay comes with a forceful time-share sales pitch. The condo-style rooms have full kitchens and private balconies or patios. The added resort fees may compel travelers looking for value to check rates at the nearby Courtyard by Marriott Scottsdale North.
