Excellence Riviera Cancun
Carretera Federal 307 Chetumal-Puerto Juarez KM 324 -342, Manzana 7, Lote 1, S.M. 11

The adults-only, 440-room Excellence Riviera Cancun is a luxury all-inclusive resort along a pretty beach just north of Puerto Morelos, about a 20-minute drive from the airport. It offers all the high-end features you'd expect from a hotel of this caliber, including six attractive pools and five hot tubs, 10 international restaurants and a beachside grill, ample bars, free non-motorized water sports and daily activities, and extensive spa facilities. Food is especially good for an all-inclusive resort (no reservations are required), as is entertainment. There's also a gorgeous stretch of beach, though seaweed is sometimes an issue. Spacious suites feature elegant contemporary decor, private furnished balconies, and marble bathrooms with separate showers and jetted tubs. Swim-up suites and two-story suites are also available. This is easily one of the best all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Morelos. Travelers with kids might want to check out the family-friendly Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa, which offers comparable amenities, though rooms aren't as stylish.

Zoetry Paraiso de La Bonita
Carretera Chetumal –Cancun Km 328, Bahia Petempich

Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita is a 90-room, luxury boutique on the beach, about 20 minutes by car from Puerto Morelos. An all-inclusive property, its high rates come with an array of freebies, such as private chauffeured airport transfers and a round of golf. The three restaurants include spicy fusion cuisine and a sushi/ceviche bar, and top-shelf liquors are included at the three bars. There's a large outdoor pool, plus a Thalasso therapy center offering seawater treatments. All rooms are striking oceanfront suites decorated with art and fabrics from around the world, and include daily sparkling wine and fruit. The calm atmosphere here is geared mainly to couples and adults, so there are no activities for kids. Families might prefer the Azul Beach Hotel, a similarly sized all-inclusive with a great kids' club and lower rates, but fewer freebies.

Acamaya Reef
Carretera Cancun-Tulum

Acamaya Reef is best described as a budget bungalow getaway. The location -- about 10 minutes north of Puerto Morelos -- is key, with a small stretch of beach and great sunrise views. However, the property is dated and showing lots of wear. Founded in the mid-1980s, the husband-and-wife duo running the show have established a distinct beach-boho vibe here. While it has plenty of outdoor space and amazing sea views, the six bungalows are worn. Many lack private bathrooms, though some do have air-conditioning or flat-screen TVs. There’s free spotty Wi-Fi throughout the property, and a small restaurant and snack bar, but otherwise features are limited. Those looking for something closer to civilization may consider the Hotel Hacienda Morelos downtown, although it’s less intimate than the Acamaya.

Azul Beach Resort Resort Riviera Cancun
Carretera Cancun-Puerto Morelos Km 27.5, Manz 37, Super Manz 12, Bahia Petempich

The ultimate family getaway, the all-inclusive 438-room Azul Sensatori mega-resort offers a fabulous kids' club, with fairly modern amenities, lots of fun colors and spaces, and even a life-size Dora the Explorer running around. For the adults, the spa is airy and luxurious with soothing decor. On the hotel's website, the beach looks stunning, but in reality it is full of seaweed and rocks, making it not the greatest place to swim. It is, however, still a great place to rent some kayaks, play beach sports, and get a golden Mexico tan. Fortunately for those looking to swim, the winding lazy river pool weaves around the property, which many swim-up rooms border. Rooms are large, bright, and luxurious, some with private balconies or large Jacuzzis. Although there are hardly any restaurants or non-beach activities in the immediate area, on-site restaurants (including the 12-course, exclusive Le Chique, and Mojito Lounge, with 31 specialty mojitos) and hotel-oriented activities offer plenty to keep vacationers busy.

Desire Riviera Maya Pearl Resort
Costera Norte, Lote 1 SM 10 M 26

The Desire Riviera Maya Pearl Resort (formerly the Ceiba del Mar) is a couples-only, clothing-optional, all-inclusive resort located on a beautiful white-sand beach right outside quiet Puerto Morelos, about a 45-minute drive south of Cancun. Rooms are large and airy, featuring traditional country-influenced decor (plaid bed runners, pastel-blue fabrics), balconies or patios, and solid amenities, such as flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi. The pool is large and offers serene views of the sea. The whirlpool has a rowdier vibe, with X-rated games and couples-oriented entertainment. Erotic theme nights and a Sin Room for public sex are also available. Food gets consistently good reviews from past guests. The resort is racy but somewhat quieter than its sister property, the Desire Riviera Maya Resort, and draws strictly heterosexual middle-aged and older couples.

Hotel Hacienda Morelos
Av. Rafael Melgar Mza.2 Lote 5

The Hacienda Hotel Morelos is a budget hotel in downtown Puerto Morelos, right on the beach. The 31 rooms are basic and nothing special, but some do offer ocean views and/or mini-fridges. Hotel amenities are more attractive in comparison and include free Wi-Fi, an outdoor terrace with lounge chairs, a small pool, and plenty of beach space. There's also a charming Mexican bar/restaurant with rustic woodwork and tile as well as outdoor seating. Travelers may also want to consider Acamaya Reef, a nearby beachfront property with rustic bungalows, some with air-conditioning.

Azul Beach Resort Riviera Maya
KM 27.5 Carretera Federal Chetuma

This 97-room all-inclusive resort feels more like an upscale beach community -- complete with thatched roofs and quaint seaside cabanas. Rooms are spacious, with airy island-style designs and lots of luxurious touches, like deep-dish sinks, flat-screen TVs, and private patios or balconies. Some suites are swim-up, which border the gorgeous pool linking a group of suites at ground level. The four on-site restaurants offer a decent variety to guests, including a bar dedicated solely to tequila, though those staying for more than an extended weekend may find the options a bit limited. But families will appreciate that the restaurants offer kid-friendly options, and the daily kids' club -- a bright, fun space with tons of games and toys -- is a great place for children to hang out while adults dine or visit the spa.

Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun
Super Manzana 11 Manzana 9 Lote 10

The four-pearl Now Sapphire Riviera is a family-friendly all-inclusive option that's just 20 minutes south of Cancun International Airport. There's little variance in the resort's classically styled 496 junior suites, save their views and upgraded Preferred Club-level perks. Expect traditional furniture, private outdoor space, marble floors, and coffeemakers. The resort has four pools, including two children's pools and an adult-only pool for Preferred Club guests. The resort's "Unlimited Luxury" all-inclusive program encompasses five a la carte restaurants, five bars (including a nightclub), 24-hour room service, and top-shelf liquor. The resort's white-sand beach is beautiful but can be a gamble due to seaweed that frequents the area. For a kid-free option and more modern look, Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun is a good option with similar rates.

Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun
Bahia de Petempich SM 12, Mz 31

This luxurious, 433-room all-inclusive resort is an adult-only escape with a fairly remote location a half-hour drive south of Cancun's bustling Hotel Zone. There's a classy, jet set vibe, and spring break shenanigans are prohibited, as are children under 18. Extensive features include a [white-sand beach]() (that's smaller than those at competing properties), eight pools, nine restaurants, and abundant bars -- plus nightly entertainment to keep things lively. There is a full-service spa as well as a nicely outfitted fitness center, not to mention regular yoga and water aerobics classes. Rooms are spacious, spotless, and modern, all with amazing whirlpool tubs and balconies or patios. Really fantastic free Wi-Fi is offered throughout (reception can even be found on the beach).
