Wellness Hotel Lupo Bianco
Strada de Pordoi 5

This upper-middle-range Alpine chalet is located a 10-minute drive outside of Canazei, right on the slopes in the Dolomite mountains with direct ski-in, ski-out access. It's an official Dolomite Walking Hotel, so guests can enjoy expert guided hikes three times a week. Though it draws many couples (who will likely enjoy the wellness center), families also stay here and can take advantage of the outdoor play area and pool. Rooms have attractive classic style, with lots of wood and traditional fabrics, and most have balconies. Note that the in-room Wi-Fi signal can be weak and that the hotel does not have any planned evening activities, unlike some other hotels in the area.

Croce Bianca Leisure & Spa Hotel
Strada Roma 3

Run by the same family for over 140 years (and accordingly named a UNESCO World Heritage site), the Croce Bianca Leisure & Spa Hotel offers a terrific base for travelers looking to explore the Dolomites, whether by ski or foot. This mid-sized, mid-range seasonal property (open summer and winter only) has a full-service spa and an indoor/outdoor swimming pool with an adjacent whirlpool that adds to the romantic appeal. The rooms are spacious and decorated in traditional Ladin (Northern Italian) style while offering modern amenities like in-room Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs. There is an abundant free breakfast served daily and regional cuisine is often highlighted, completing this hotel’s overall authentic Italian feel. However, those seeking a property with a well-equipped fitness center or reliable Internet should consider elsewhere.

Hotel Cristallo
Via Dolomiti Est 40

This mid-range Alpine-style hotel is located in Canazei center, a five-minute walk to cable cars and a ski bus stop, and draws couples and families looking to hike, climb, mountain bike, and ski in the famous Dolomites (a UNESCO heritage site). The rooms are simple yet spacious, and most have balconies with views of the mountains. Breakfast and dinner at the on-site restaurant are included for guests, as is access to the Wellness Center, which is typical for the area. Note that the hotel is seasonal, open from December to Easter and from April to September. It's worth comparing prices with the Wellness Hotel Lupo Bianco, which has a prettier setting and ski-in, ski-out access.

Pineta Naturamente Hotels
Via Al Santuario 17

The setting alone makes the three-and-a-half-pearl Pineta Hotels Nature Wellness Resort pretty special -- nestled in a picturesque valley surrounded by thick forest on the edge of a small mountain village. The property itself is also picture-perfect Alpine chalet, while the spa facilities really impress. The hotel restaurant is excellent, which is useful as there's not much other dining around. There's free breakfast and Wi-Fi, plus scheduled activities and bikes to borrow. Rooms are mostly simple, but very cozy, many with stunning views. For a secluded and tranquil stay close to nature, it doesn't get much better than this -- the rates aren't bad either.

NH Trento
Via Adalberto Libera

The 89-room NH Trento is a contemporary choice in a planned community designed by the renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano. It is a modern chain hotel with a refined, upscale atmosphere that includes a quality restaurant serving Italian cuisine and a delicious free breakfast. Other amenities are lacking, but there's a small fitness room. Rooms are likewise stylish and fresh, with soft palettes, minibars, and kettles, plus heated towel racks in sleek bathrooms. For a stay closer to town, check out the Grand Hotel Trento, an older hotel next to City Hall and a six-minute walk from the city center.
