Royal Cliff Grand Hotel
353 Phra Tamnuk Road, (part of the Royal Cliff Hotels Group)

Hill settings afford tranquility and sensational Gulf of Thailand views at the luxurious, 372-room Royal Cliff Grand Hotel. The property is removed from downtown Pattaya, but free shuttles run there in about 10 minutes. The property is resort-like and sprawling, consisting of a private beach, stylish infinity pool, swish spa, and plenty for kids and conference travelers. Plus, guests have access to three other Royal Cliff properties in the complex. Spacious, air-conditioned rooms and suites have fine furnishings, modern amenities, sleek bathrooms, and gorgeous, sea-view balconies. Expect sea-view bars and restaurants, with standouts including a 24-hour international and Thai eateries. For a classy downtown alternative, consider the AVANI Pattaya Resort & Spa

Pattaya Park Beach Resort
345 Jomtien Beach, Pattaya City

The two-pearl, 718-room Pattaya Park Beach Resort has seen better days. While the resort offers facilities often seen at higher-rated hotels -- like multiple pools and restaurants, plus a fitness center -- every aspect of the property is dated. Rooms are basic and run-down, with old furniture and tube-style TVs. There is free Wi-Fi and a basic breakfast is included; and there's a revolving restaurant with scenic sea and city views on the upper floors, but guests will see plenty of cheap furniture and maintenance issues throughout. The hotel is cheap, but for a slightly more expensive vacation with more style, Thai Garden Resort has nicer facilities and a kids' pool.

Grand Hotel Pattaya
103 Moo 10, Soi 14, Beach Road

The three-pearl, 80-room Grand Hotel Pattaya is located in central Pattaya, directly on Walking Street. It's surrounded by shops, bars, and restaurants, and the beach is a two-minute walk away. It's great for partygoers, but families and light sleepers may struggle with the all-night noise from nearby nightclubs. The hotel offers simple lodgings for travelers on a budget, with slightly tired air-conditioned rooms that include cable TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi. Most rooms have balconies with sea views. The restaurant serves international cuisine and an American breakfast buffet for a fee, plus alcoholic beverages and fresh coffee at the bar. There's a rooftop sundeck with sun loungers and sea views, but no pool or wellness facilities. Alternatively, the Sunshine Hotel & Residences isn't as central but adds three swimming pools.

Pattaya Modus Beachfront Resort
381 Moo 5, Soi Naklua 12, Pattaya-Naklua Road, Naklua, Banglamung

The upscale Modus Pattaya Resort is a gorgeous resort with its own private beach in a relatively quiet residential area of North Pattaya. The property has an industrial-chic design throughout, yet retains a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The 252 rooms are comfortable and stylish, outfitted with iPod docks, air-conditioning, and bathrobes, but not all have balconies. There are a lovely array of pools, with loungers in the middle of one and a swim-up bar in another, plus free water sports, a full-service spa, and kids' club are all available. Multiple restaurants and bars receive positive reviews, plus room service is available 24 hours. The location isn't ideal for those looking to be nearer to the action, so travelers may prefer the more central Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya, though rates are higher.

Rabbit Resort Pattaya
318/84 Moo 12, Soi Dongtan Police Station, Jomtien, Nongprue, Banglamung

The four-pearl Rabbit Resort offers landscaped gardens and boutique-style accommodation across a mostly pedestrian road from Dongtan Beach. Guests can choose from traditional rooms in the 100 year-old main house or individual cottages. All 49 rooms are colorful and have been designed with authentic Thai accents, including Thai artwork and hand-carved furniture. Many bathrooms sport rainfall showers. There are both an adults-only and child-friendly pools available and a free breakfast is served in the hotel's beachside restaurant daily. Free Wi-Fi and on-site parking are available, and the hotel provides a tranquil resort-like escape in what can often feel like a hectic, wild town.

Avani Pattaya Resort
218/2-4, Moo 10, Beach Road

The AVANI brand’s Pattaya location is a large, three-and-a-half-pearl property located in a mall along Pattaya’s main road, within walking distance of the beach and nightlife. Somewhat outdated decor has transformed this property into one of the more humble among the brand-name hotels in the area, but there are still a nice number of perks -- like a full-service spa, three restaurants, and a massive outdoor pool and bar. The hotel's general focus seems to be on tranquility and peace -- which, despite the almost 300 rooms here -- manages to be achieved via the wild, lush gardens that surround the hotel. It might be worth comparing with the Hilton Pattaya just down the road, where they don’t skimp on the extras and their room design is refreshingly modern.

Royal Cliff Beach Hotel
353 Phra Tamnuk Road, (part of the Royal Cliff Hotels Group)

This 474-room, upscale hotel is the "casual luxury" offering of the four Royal Cliff hotels set on this 64-acre plot southwest of the resort town of Pattaya. Its clifftop setting provides superb views and sunsets, which are especially enjoyable from the infinity-edge pool. Some rooms offer sea-view balconies, while all feature comfy seating areas and high-end TVs. Guests have access to a giant health club with tennis courts, fitness facilities, pools, saunas, and more, while dining options include a buffet restaurant, Indian, and beachside barbecues. While some guests enjoy the secluded location, others find it a little isolated. For even more on-site facilities, check out the Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort, which is closer to the center and has a water park, five pools, and eight restaurants -- but rates are a little more expensive.

Royal Wing Suites & Spa
353 Phra Tamnuk Road, (part of the Royal Cliff Hotels Group)

The 85-suite Royal Wing Suites & Spa is the flagship and most luxurious property of a group of four hotels that occupy a 64-acre area in south Pattaya. Rooms are spacious and stylish, all with sea-view balconies, marble bathrooms, whirlpool tubs, and high-end amenities. Dining, health, and leisure facilities are also all first-class, and guests can also access  amenities across the complex. The enclave can feel a little isolated and far from bustling Pattaya's sights and sounds, which is a 10-minute drive away, but travelers will be hard-pressed to find a better luxury option anywhere in the region.

Nova Platinum Hotel Pattaya
562 Moo 10 Pratumnak Road, Banglamung

Among the bustling city life in Pattaya is three-pearl Nova Platinum Hotel, a humble property with pleasantly modern style and a range of nice features. These include a full-service spa and fitness center, two outdoor swimming pools, a swim-up bar, and a restaurant. Some maintenance issues like broken doors are a bummer, though much-needed renovations were underway when we visited in 2016. Each of the 270 rooms include flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and free WI-FI. The proximity to Walking Street and Pattaya nightlife helps spice up the scene here and puts lots of entertainment within a 10-minute walk -- for better or worse. Rates are hard to beat, but for those who don't need to be in the thick of the action, Le Viman Resort has far nicer rooms.

Pattaya Discovery Beach Hotel
489 Soi 6/1, North Pattaya, Pattaya Beach Road

This 295-room, upper-middle-range hotel is located on Beach Road, across the street from Pattaya’s sandy beach and a five-minute drive to the famed Walking Street. Spacious, modern rooms have minibars, bathrobes, and outdoor spaces -- many looking out toward the sea; rooms in the newer Chic Tower are significantly more sleek. Each tower has its own pool, one more relaxed and one with waterslides, and there are a kids' club and small, bright gym. Dining-wise, there are a cafeteria that serves a decent breakfast spread, an international restaurant, and two bars. Note, however, that some guests have complained of late-night noise from nearby bars. It's worth comparing rates with the Amari Garden Pattaya, which offers a spa and larger kids' club with supervised activities.
