Splash Inn Nuevo Vallarta
Carretera a Tepic Vallarta km. 163

Splash Inn Nuevo Vallarta is a budget-friendly hotel best known for its on-site waterpark. Patronized by guests and locals alike, the waterpark is a popular area attraction, with dozens of slides, a kiddie pool, and sea animal shows featuring dolphins and sea lions. The hotel itself is basic, with sparsely furnished rooms and underwhelming decor. Amenities include a small pool and a tiny fitness center, plus an on-site restaurant with unreliable hours. Guests have access to free Wi-Fi in the lobby, but the connection can be spotty. In our opinion, travelers are better off staying at a nearby hotel and visiting the waterpark for a day. Hotel Las Palomas Nuevo Vallarta is a budget-friendly pick with a bit more charm, plus it has better Wi-Fi and a cute breakfast restaurant.

The Grand Bliss at Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta
Av Pasedo de las Moras, Fracc. Náutico Turístico

The Grand Bliss is a step up from the nearby Grand Mayan in Nuevo Vallarta, in terms of room and suite size, elegance, and exclusivity. A minor flaw at this chic, high-end time-share with hotel options is that it currently depends on the Grand Mayan and the other adjacent properties -- the Mayan Palace and the Grand Luxxe -- for most of its facilities. The restaurants, fitness center, and spa are located at the sister resorts, but there is an appealing pool, snack bar, and lobby bar on-site. Highlights here also include gorgeous gardens, an inviting beach, and soothing decor made up of natural materials.

Marival Emotions Resort & Suites
Blvd. Paseo Cocoteros S/N

The three-and-a-half-pearl Marival Resort & Suites Nuevo Vallarta All-Inclusive is packed with family-friendly amenities. Sprawled across 900 feet of pristine beachfront, Marival is ideal for families in search of a fun vacation atmosphere. Features include four pools, a small water park for kids, two separate clubs for kids and teens, a mini-golf course, four tennis courts, and an open-air theater with nightly productions. There are six restaurants for buffet and a la carte dining, which most find better than the average all-inclusive. However, downsides consist of an inconvenient reservation process, daily fee for Wi-Fi, and an annoying timeshare pitch upon check-in. The 495 rooms and suites vary in terms of decor and amenities, and those not renovated in 2015-16 are showing age. It’s worth checking rates at the nearby Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta -- an equally amenity-packed resort with nicer rooms.

Hotel Las Palomas Vallarta
Avenida Tepic 60

Las Palomas is a no-frills hotel located off a major road and across from renowned Flamingos Golf Club. Rooms are bright and airy but a little basic, with only free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and a tube TV in the way of amenities. There’s a small restaurant serving breakfast and a light dinner menu, and a pleasant pool with loungers and a large palapa for shade. For the price, it’s a solid pick for travelers on a budget who don’t mind driving to the beach and nearby attractions.

Ocean Breeze Nuevo Vallarta
Ave. Paseo de las Moras s/n, Fracc Náutico Turistico

Set on a lovely turtle nesting beach on the Bay of Banderas, Ocean Breeze Nuevo Vallarta is a family-friendly value resort offering 178 pleasant rooms with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. Suites add living areas and kitchenettes and all categories offer either ocean or mountain views. There’s an international restaurant, a pizza and snack counter, and a vibrant bar. A nice outdoor pool features a swim-up bar and a kids' area, and the beach offers plenty of seating and palapas. There’s a market on-site, but no spa or fitness center. Meals and drinks are pricey, and the hotel charges for things like coffee and water in the rooms. Valet parking is available for a fee. Costa Sur Resort & Spa is a similar property closer to downtown Puerto Vallarta, and it offers a gym and a spa.

The Grand Mayan at Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta
Av Paseo de las Moras s/n, Fracc. Náutico Turístico

Part of the massive Vidanta resort complex in Nuevo Vallarta, The Grand Mayan Nuevo Vallarta Resort is an upscale mega-resort in three huge towers overlooking the ocean. All 789 rooms feature air-conditioning, balconies, and marble bathrooms with whirlpool tubs, while suites also include kitchens, living rooms, and private pools. There are eights restaurants and four bars. A beautiful pool complex features swim-up bars, kids' areas, and adult-only areas. There’s also a fun lazy river, two wave pools, and a kids’ water park. The huge beach offers plenty of chairs and palapas. Other amenities include, a spa, a fitness center, and an 18-hole golf course. There's no all-inclusive rates, and there are fees for parking and Wi-Fi. Travelers looking to be closer to central Puerto Vallarta might consider the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa

Hotel Villa Varadero
Retorno Nayarit Lote 83 / 84, Villa 5 Manzana XIII

Hotel Villa Varadero is a budget all-inclusive on a calm and gorgeous stretch of beach in Nuevo Vallarta. The location is great and rates are low, but some rooms are old and the food is mediocre. The three pools are crowded and loud, but great for kids to splash around and make lots of noise in. The hotel’s new building has the nicest rooms, restaurants, and pool, but it isn’t beachfront like the resort’s older buildings. Freebies include Wi-Fi, parking, boogie boards, bikes, and kayaks. Better rooms can be found next door at Sea Garden Nuevo Vallarta, though nightly rates are higher.

Paradise Village Beach Resort & Spa
Av. Paseo de los Cocoteros #1, Bahia de Banderas

A cheesy Mayan theme and dated decor are the hallmarks of Paradise Village Beach Resort & Spa, a 693-room, upper-middle-range beachfront property in Nuevo Vallarta. The sprawling Paradise Village complex always feels crowded, but spacious rooms with full kitchens, a family-friendly atmosphere, and attractive all-inclusive rates keep guests coming back year after year. Plus, the hotel’s large spa, modern fitness center, and prime location in Nuevo Vallarta are nice perks as well. Travelers looking for a similar, more updated property may prefer Marival Resort & Suites Nuevo Vallarta All-Inclusive, though nightly rates are pricier.

Sea Garden Nuevo Vallarta
Av Paseo de las Moras s/n, Fracc Nautico Turistico

Part of a massive six-hotel complex, Sea Garden Nuevo Vallarta is older and smaller than its neighbors, but many travelers find its simplicity appealing. Sea Garden’s 180 rooms are spacious and receive lots of natural light, but the decor is plain and dated. A large freeform pool is the hub of the property, where families, couples, and retirees all carve out their own space. Guests can choose all-inclusive nightly rates, or order their meals a la carte at the on-site restaurant. Additionally, some units have kitchenettes with stovetops, microwaves, toasters, and blenders. Though Sea Garden doesn’t have a spa, fitness center, or kids' club, guests can use all of the amenities at its sister properties. It’s worth comparing rates at nearby Samba Vallarta - Inclusive, which has a similar atmosphere and amenities.
