Spity Hotel Nice
3 avenue des Fleurs

Formerly the Hi Hotel Eco Spa & Beach, this three-and-a-half-pearl property promises funky accommodations and assorted upscale amenities within a quick walk of the popular Promenade de Anglais. Its 38 rooms -- all outfitted with iPod docks, LCD TVs and free Wi-Fi -- were designed by Matali Crasset whose eclectic eye and taste for vibrant colors is evident throughout. Haute style, however, sometimes takes precedence over practicality (open-plan bathrooms are a case in point). Crasset designed the common areas, too, which include an organic restaurant, a lively bar, and a rooftop pool. The Spity also manages a private pay-for-use beach nearby. If you’d prefer a more subdued and subtle alternative nearer the promenade, consider the Hotel Beau Rivage instead.

Hotel du Petit Palais
17 avenue Bieckert

This 25-room, four-pearl property is a tasteful oasis tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood just outside the City Centre. Rooms are spacious and well decorated with outdoor sitting areas offering great city or ocean views or a spot by the lush tropical garden near an outdoor pool. While within walking distance of many of Nice’s top attractions, the hilltop hotel could be a bit of a difficult climb for some guests. For a boutique property a little more central to the city, consider the La Villa Nice Victor Hugo, which also may offer lower rates.

Ajoupa Apart'hotel Nice
4 rue Massena

The Ajoupa Apart'hotel is a well-located budget apartment-style hotel that's about a three-minute walk to the Place Massena. Its 32 apartments range from Single Studios to Two-Room Suites that can sleep up to four, and include kitchenettes, Nespresso coffeemakers (without pods), flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi, and housekeeping once a week. There's a front desk staffed through the early evening, with concierge services available. The hotel offers a continental breakfast for an extra fee, which guests can take in their rooms. Travelers not dead-set on apartment-style living might want to check out the nearby Nice Garden Hotel, a charming property with a garden but no in-room kitchenettes.

Hotel So’co by HappyCulture
27 avenue Thiers

Located right across the street from Nice’s main train station, the mid-range Best Western Hotel So’Co is a suitable pick for budget travelers and those planning day trips to Monaco or Cannes by train. Although there aren’t any major attractions in the neighborhood, the beach and main tourist area around the waterfront can be reached in about 15 minutes on foot. The 50 rooms were renovated in late 2016 and have hip industrial-style decor and solid amenities, such as free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and electric kettles. The hotel is light on amenities, but breakfast is good for a hotel in this price range, and the dining room is chic and sunny. Travelers on a tighter budget who want to stay closer to the beach may want to compare rates at Hotel Danemark.

Hotel Wilson
39 rue de l Hotel des Postes

The two-pearl Hotel Wilson is a distinctive, boutique property that offers travelers a central Nice location for an affordable rate. The hotel's eclectic decor may not suit all tastes, though some travelers find the owner's collection of antiques, art, and artifacts that fill common spaces charming. All 16 guest rooms all come with flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, but there's no air-conditioning, and some have shared bathrooms. Also, several pasts guests have noted street noise on lower floors. There isn't much in the way of amenities other than a simple continental breakfast buffet for a fee, and the hotel doesn't have an elevator. Travelers looking for a step up can consider the nearby Best Western Hotel Roosevelt.

Best Western Alba Hotel
41 avenue Jean Medecin

The Best Western Alba Hotel is a solid mid-range option with few frills but a convenient location on bustling Avenue Jean Medecin, a five-minute walk from the main train station and a 15-minute walk from the waterfront. Its 35 rooms, available for two to four guests, are clean, contemporary, and well-sized, if generic, with decent amenities like minibars stocked with soft drinks, coffee service, and flat-screen TVs. A breakfast buffet is offered daily, in the breakfast room, terrace, or in room, but some guests find it pricey. There’s no full-service restaurant, bar, or wellness facilities. For chicer decor but the same pared down property features, compare rates with the nearby Hotel 64 Nice.

Best Western Plus Hotel Massena Nice
58 rue Gioffredo

The BEST WESTERN PLUS Hotel Massena Nice is an upper-middle-range hotel situated in the heart of Nice, a five-minute walk to the Promenade des Anglais. The hotel has one suite and 101 rooms with simple, contemporary decor and modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges. Features include a 24-hour bar and lounge, breakfast (for a fee), and room service from a nearby brasserie. While the facade and common area decor are high-end, the hotel lacks some of the property features typical at this pearl level, such as a restaurant and fitness facilities. The nearby Hotel Aston La Scala is a less intimate property, but it adds two restaurants and a seasonal pool.

NH Nice
2-4 Parvis De L'Europe

The mid-range NH Nice is a modern chain outpost in central Nice that's ideal for business travelers, as it's just around the corner from the convention center. Nice's Old Town and several other attractions are within a 15-minute walk, and there's a tram stop just outside the hotel for those who prefer public transportation. The 152 contemporary, but simple, rooms are equipped with minibars, air-conditioning, and work desks, and some have nice views of the city. The rooftop pool isn't heated, but it's popular in warmer months, and the restaurant serves French fare for all meals. The nearby Splendid Hotel & Spa has a full-service spa, and some of its rooms have balconies and jetted tubs, all at rates similar to the NH.

Villa Otero by HappyCulture
58 rue Herold

The three-and-a-half-pearl Villa Otero is located outside of Nice's old town in the city's Musician's Quarter. The most striking part of the hotel is its design, with Belle Epoque influences translated into the 21st century through the use of statement wallpapers, blue jewel tones, and vintage prints throughout. The 38 stylish rooms have flat-screen TVs, kettles, and big safes, but bathrooms are on the small side and some have tiny showers. Breakfast isn't included in the rate and it's relatively expensive, but free treats and coffee are provided every afternoon. There's little else to the property, but it makes for a decent base and a train station is five minutes away on foot. Those with children might prefer the family-friendly NH Nice, which is significantly cheaper and still central.

Hotel Ellington Nice Centre
25 boulevard Dubouchage

The 110-room Hotel Ellington is an upper-middle-range option located in a charming example of 1920s Nicoise architecture. It sits in the heart of Nice on one of the city's most stylish streets, and is within a 10-minute walk of the Old Town and the beach. Rooms are fresh and tastefully decorated, with flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning, although some are on the small side. Guests can choose between four options for breakfast, but it's not included in most rates. The bar and patio provide nice places to hang out, and there are four meeting rooms available, but the lack of a restaurant for lunch or dinner is notable. As an alternative, the Hotel Windsor Nice has funky, artsy rooms plus a pool and a location that's closer to the beach with lower rates.
