Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa
1300 Tuyuna Trail

This upscale resort is a sprawling property on the Santa Ana Pueblo reservation 15 miles north of Albuquerque. Its gorgeous natural setting under vivid blue skies offers panoramic views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Trails lead directly to the Rio Grande and the resort features numerous activities, as well as a golf course, restaurants, and several pools. There are daily resort and Wi-Fi fees, which are not charged at the lower-priced -- but more urban -- Sandia Resort and Casino.

Copper King Lodge
307 E. River Street

The 25-room Copper King Lodge offers couples, families, and ski enthusiasts a budget, no-frills vacation directly on the Red River with prime trout fishing and direct access to an area chair lift. The property also features a charming terrace with a hot tub, picnic tables, and grills -- all with waterfront views. Cabin-style rooms have kitchens, fireplaces, flat-screen TVs, and balconies. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, however. If that’s a major concern, the nearby Black Mountain Lodge has on-site dining.

Best Western Rivers Edge
301 W. River Street

The 30-room Best Western Rivers Edge is directly on the Red River and close to area ski slopes. The property attracts couples and families with its free hot breakfast and affordably priced rooms. Modern rooms have classic decor, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, kitchenettes, and riverfront patios. Keep in mind that noise from nightly gatherings at waterfront fire pits can be bothersome in some rooms.

Hilton Santa Fe Buffalo Thunder

The Buffalo Thunder is a sprawling, upscale Hilton resort 14 miles north of Santa Fe on the Pojoaque Pueblo reservation. There’s plenty of fun to be had at the huge casino and the golf course with views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The pottery and Native American art on display throughout the hotel, and the rooms themselves, are spectacular, but be prepared for a rowdy pool party during summer weekends -- and hefty fees (Internet, golf, spa adds up).
