Ocean Five Hotel
436 Ocean Dr

The family-run Ocean Five Hotel is an upper-mid-range boutique with affordable prices and an Art Deco aesthetic, located within walking distance of the beach and shopping. There are 81 rooms spread over three floors of three historic buildings, all outfitted with simple decor in warm colors, modern amenities, and either hardwood or Italian marble floors. Studio rooms are located in an annex building. There's an affiliated Italian cafe, where breakfast is served each morning, but there are few other facilities at this hotel, best known for its affordable rates and convenient location. Breakfast and Wi-Fi are free. Circa Hotel, a 10-minute drive down the beach, has slightly higher rates -- but has the extra perks of a swimming pool, fitness center, and two meeting rooms.

Villa Italia Hotel
354 Washington Ave, South Beach

This boutique hotel is located in South Beach in the area referred to as SoFi, within walking distance of the beach, restaurants, shops, and bars. A small, cozy property with a relaxed atmosphere, the property was formally Harmon Villa, which was declared a historic building by the Historic Preservation Board of Miami. The new owners restored the hotel to its original architecture, completing the Villa Italia transformation in 2011. The 14 rooms are simple, contemporary, and spacious. The hotel also provides a small but free breakfast which can be enjoyed on the outdoor patio. Guests receive free chairs and towels for the beach as well, but there are few on-site amenities beyond these.

Greenview Hotel
1671 Washington Ave

The 45-room Greenview Hotel is a clean and stylish mid-range hotel that's a solid choice for travelers who want to be in the heart of South Beach and don't care much about luxury and extra amenities. Housed in an historic building, rooms were renovated in 2010, giving them a clean-lined, minimalist style that echoes Miami's Art Deco heart. The hotel is conveniently located near Lincoln Road, The New World Symphony, Botanical Garden, Holocaust Memorial, and the beach, meaning you won't need a car here -- especially since the hotel offers a free airport shuttle. There is a mandatory nightly resort fee that covers the use of beach towels, Wi-Fi, breakfast, and more. Note the tiny bathrooms and sparse breakfasts -- but the good rates, excellent location, and comfortable bedrooms make up for those for most guests.

Riviere South Beach Hotel
1424 Collins Ave

The Riviere South Beach Hotel is a modern, mid-range property with 19 rooms in the historic Art Deco district of South Beach. Although it lacks property features such as a restaurant and pool, the hotel is very well-situated for tourists, just a block off chic Ocean Drive and within a 10-minute walk of the beach. The grounds offer lovely, shaded seating areas, and minimalist guest rooms are bright and airy, and have several kitchen appliances. Breakfast and Wi-Fi are free. Guests may also want to consider Crest Hotel Suites, a few minutes north and just off Collins Avenue, with a pool and cafe on-site.

The Hotel of South Beach
801 Collins Avenue

The Hotel Of South Beach is a 73-room boutique hotel located in lively South Beach, just a block from the coast. Modern rooms all come with Keurig coffeemakers and large bathrooms, some with whirlpool tubs. However, thin walls have led to plenty of complaints from past guests, and light sleepers should definitely bring earplugs. Features include multiple bars, a restaurant with a free buffet breakfast on Friday and weekends, a lovely rooftop pool, and a well-equipped fitness center with a great selection of free weights. It's a good value for an upscale hotel, with rates that are usually lower than at the comparable Dream South Beach or Gale South Beach.

Hotel18
230 18th St, corner of James Avenue

The 46-room Hotel 18 is a mid-range value property one block from the sandy shores in South Beach. The studios and one-bedroom apartments all have kitchens, making them suitable for longer stays, and some have sofa beds. The hotel has a pretty courtyard with comfy patio furniture and offers parking, a business corner, and laundry machines. There is convenient free Wi-Fi, but some of the room furnishings are plain or even a touch dated. The similarly priced Tradewinds Apartment Hotel has slightly nicer kitchen-equipped suites, but it's slightly farther from the South Beach action.

Churchill Suites Monte Carlo Miami Beach
6551 Collins Avenue

Churchill Suites Monte Carlo Miami Beach is an 18-story, ocean view complex of 36 upscale, contemporary apartments located in North Beach. The units range from studios to two bedrooms, all with full kitchens, washer/dryers, and floor-to-ceiling windows facing the ocean or the bay, plus most have lovely private balconies. The property includes two heated outdoor pools with hot tubs and loungers, but there's no restaurant or bar on-site. Other amenities include a bright and airy fitness center, two saunas, free valet parking, Wi-Fi, and bicycles to borrow. For another extended-stay option, guests can try Dorchester Miami Beach Hotel & Suites.

The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach
1 Lincoln Road

**This hotel was impacted by *Hurricane Irma* and is currently closed. We will update our review as soon as we have more information. **A huge (though relaxed) beachfront resort with reliable service, a great pool, a top-notch spa, and a modern fitness center, the Ritz offers more for the money. Less crowded than its hip, style-focused boutique neighbors, the family-friendly Ritz is still in a prime position to explore SoBe.

Deauville Beach Resort
North Beach Miami Beach

Offering a good-size room with a panoramic view, quality beds, and beach access at a reasonable price -- the Deauville seems like a decent pick, but frequent complaints of cleanliness issues and poor customer service have us looking elsewhere. The rooms renovated in 2014 have a fresh look, but still left much to be desired and the entire property is due for a overhaul. For a similarly priced option with better rooms and service, check out the Courtyard By Marriott Miami Beach Oceanfront.

Blanc Kara Boutique Hotel
205 Collins Ave

The petite, 25-room Blanc Kara is an upper-middle-range, adults-only hotel in the South of Fifth area, conveniently located a short walk to the beach and restaurants. From its trim, white masonry facade with tailored black awnings to the classic typeface of its signage, this boutique property provides a sophisticated atmosphere at a good price. Spacious studios feature chic decor and are equipped with full kitchens and modern amenities like Nespresso machines, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. The property does not offer many on-site features and lacks a pool, restaurant, or bar, but the atmosphere is quiet and restive. Travelers seeking something with more features might want to consider the equally trendy Surfcomber Hotel, which has a pool, two restaurants, and a fitness center.
