The Westin Tokyo
1-4-1 Mita, Ebisu Garden Place

An upscale hotel adjacent to the Yebisu Garden Place, The Westin Tokyo benefits from its close proximity to several museums, as well as quality shopping and restaurants. The hotel's own restaurants are pricey, but diverse, and its Ryutenmon restaurant has picked up a Michelin Star for its Cantonese cuisine. The classical European decor is grand, if perhaps a tad gaudy and out of place in Tokyo to some. Though the rooms are corporate and may strike some as dated rather than charmingly traditional, they're all huge even by Western norms. Starwood rewards members may also want to compare rates at the Sheraton Miyako Hotel Tokyo in the neighboring Minato district, which has less impressive common spaces but rooms with a more modern look.

Claska
1-3-18 Chuocho

Easily one of the hippest hotels in Tokyo, the upscale Claska is ideal for those who want to experience Japanese precision and style. Once a business hotel in the residential Meguro District, Claska is now a celebration of the innovative visions of contemporary Japanese designers who have fused modern furniture with traditional, minimalist aesthetics into all the interior spaces and 20 guest rooms (some with outdoor decks). Amenities are limited to a curated gift shop, fusion restaurant, and bar area. Breakfast can be ordered as a Japanese or Western set menu, for a fee. To be closer to core of the urban jungle, travelers may prefer the Hotel Gracery in the heart of Shinjuku.

Hotel Fukudaya
4-5-9 Aobadai

This two-pearl hotel is located in a residential area of Tokyo, a 14-minute walk to Shibuya Station. The 17 rooms are small and minimalist, but charming, with 13 of them featuring traditional tatami mats, fold-up futons, and low rising table with Japanese tea set. All rooms have attached bathrooms with a toilet and a sink, while some also include a tub. In-room amenities include air-conditioning, tube-style TVs, yukata robes, and free Wi-Fi. There are shared shower facilities and traditional Japanese onsen hot bath facilities. There is no breakfast or dining available -- vending machines offer soft drinks, tea, and coffee. Shibuya Tobu Hotel is another budget-friendly option, with Western-style guest rooms and a more central location in Shibuya.
