Alanda Hotel Marbella
Blvd Principe Alfonso Von Hohenlohe, Ctra Nacional 340, Km 172

The 199-room Alanda Hotel Marbella is a mid-range property a five-minute walk from the beach, just seven minutes from Marbella's Old Town by car. Stand-out features include an outdoor pool with a poolside cafe, as well as an indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, and a full-service spa. The restaurant serves a breakfast buffet, as well as lunch and dinner, but since it's a halal property no alcohol or pork will be served. Rooms are simple, clean, and include free Wi-Fi. Travelers looking for something with more modern style and a bar should consider the H10 Andalucia Plaza, though rates will be higher and it's farther from the beach.

Hotel Guadalmina Spa & Golf Resort
Urb. Guadalmina Baja, s/n, Calle 9

The four-pearl Hotel Guadalmina Spa & Golf Resort is an ideal spot for travelers looking to combine beachside relaxation, days on the fairway, and a spa, in a classically elegant package. It's located in one of Marbella’s smartest districts, right next to the Playa Sergio, and a stone’s throw from two 18-hole golf courses. The 178 rooms have warm decor, marble bathrooms, and furnished terraces, plus flat-screen TVs and minibars. A spa with hydrotherapy pools, two restaurants, three bars, and a large ocean-view pool with kiddy pool round out the features. Note, however, that the hotel is a good 25-minute drive from the center of Marbella. Those looking to stay closer to the center of town might want to try the beachfront Hotel Fuerte Marbella, though it lacks a full spa.

Marbella Playa Hotel
Carretera Nacional 340, Km 189

The upper-middle-range Marbella Playa Hotel is a family-friendly, all-inclusive resort with a beautiful stretch of beach located 20 minutes east of Marabella's Old Town. It’s quiet and somewhat isolated, with little in reasonable walking distance, which may not suit all travelers. Buffet and a la carte dining are available at two on-site restaurants, and there are two bars as well. The 331 rooms are clean and comfortable, with air-conditioning and optional minibars, but no Wi-Fi. Lush tropical landscaping surrounds the large pool complex that includes two pools and a bar. Among the recreational facilities are beach volleyball and mini-golf, plus supervised children’s activities. There's a fitness center as well. Rates are competitive for its category and beachfront location, but the Senator Marbella Spa Hotel has typically lower rates, a full-service spa, and is only a five-minute walk to the beach.

NH Marbella
Avenida Conde de Rudi, s/n, The Golden Mile

The upper-middle-range NH Marbella is an elegant property in a quiet area that's within walking distance of the ocean and the bustling Paseo Maritimo overlooking it. While the immediate area lacks restaurants or attractions, Marbella’s Old Town and Puerto Banus are 10 minutes or so by car. Its 163 rooms are clean and comfortable, with minibars, beautiful wood features, and marble bathrooms -- but no coffee/tea facilities. The restaurant serves a free breakfast buffet with lots of hot items, and there's a large outdoor pool with a covered bar. Features include a bright fitness center with a sauna, and a solarium with wicker sunbeds and straw umbrellas. Rates are attractive, but the four-pearl Senator Marbella Spa Hotel offers comparable rates, a full-service spa, and a significantly shorter walk to the beach -- it's also a bit more kid-friendly.

La Villa Marbella- Old Town
Calle del Principe 10, Old Historic Town

The seven-room La Villa Marbella is a charming three-and-a-half-pearl property in Marbella's historic city center. Rooms are spread out in several buildings, and they are individually decorated in pleasing Asian styles, with flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and minibars. Some have outdoor terraces with hot tubs. Breakfast is free, though for other meals guests will have to venture out to the many restaurants, cafes, and bars within walking distance. The beach is also about a 10-minute walk from the hotel. There's a small outdoor pool that's a nice place for hanging out, as well as terraces and lounges. As an alternative, the Hotel Claude Marbella is another boutique option with a good location in the Old Town, though it lacks a pool.

Gran Hotel Guadalpin Banus
Calle Edgar Neville s/n, Nueva Andalucía

The seafront Gran Hotel Guadalpin Banus is an upscale hotel in the Nueva Andalucia area, a five-minute drive or at least a 15-minute walk to the Puerto Banus Marina and luxury shopping. Its 181 rooms come with minibars, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi, plus most have balconies or terraces, some of which come with sea views. Unfortunately, some rooms are worn and compact. The hotel sits right on the beach and has a large outdoor pool with a poolside bar. There's also a small spa with a sauna and a fitness center, while on-site dining options include a brasserie restaurant and a trattoria. The nearby Melia Marbella Banus offers added amenities, like four pools and tennis courts, but prices are more expensive.

Hotel Fuerte Marbella
Calle El Fuerte s/n

The upscale Hotel Fuerte Marbella is a stately beachfront resort that’s surrounded by shops and restaurants along the Marbella Promenade and only a five-minute walk from the Old Town. It features two pools, lush tropical landscaping, and lots of outdoor seating at its restaurant, bar, and grill that’s right on the lovely beach. It has a large fitness center with sauna and locker facilities, and an on-site beauty salon, but no spa. Its 283 rooms are clean and spacious, with upscale marble bathrooms, beautiful hardwood floors, and private balconies, many of which offer sweeping ocean views. Rates are competitive for its location and category, but better deals are available, such as the upper-middle-range Princesa Playa Hotel Apartamentos, which offers spacious, apartment-style rooms with kitchenettes, but interiors are a bit dated and not as stylish.

The Marbella Heights Boutique Hotel
Balcon del Golf, Parcela 97 urbanizacion Golf Rio Real

The Marbella Heights Boutique Hotel is a lovely little three-pearl property with just five rooms. It's located in a quiet residential area up on a hill that provides spectacular views of the countryside and Mediterranean. There's not really anything within walking distance, and getting to the beach and city require short drives, but it's a tranquil alternative to the buzzier locales closer to the coast. Rooms are attractively decorated in Asian style, and they all have nice views, with even more glimpses of the sea from the hotel's pool and outdoor terraces. Travelers who prefer a boutique hotel closer to the action could check out the La Villa Marbella - Charming Hotel, which is within walking distance of most everything in the Old Town.

Princesa Playa Hotel Apartamentos
Paseo Maritimo s/n

The upper-middle-range Princesa Playa Hotel Apartamentos offers 36 apartments and 64 studios on the beach at attractive rates. Location is a big plus, as it’s surrounded by restaurants and only a five-minute walk from Marbella’s Old Town. The rooftop pool and restaurant/bar feature fantastic coastline views. A hot breakfast buffet and lunch are served daily, but food and bar service ends in the afternoon. An adjacent garage offers parking, but it’s expensive. While there’s valet laundry and dry cleaning service, amenities are not on par with Marbella’s more upscale hotels and resorts. It’s a solid choice for budget-conscious travelers who want to be near the beach, but another option that’s within walking distance of the Old Town is the mid-range Aparthotel Puerto Azul Marbella, which also has a pool and restaurant.

Vime la Reserva de Marbella
Carretera Nacional 340, Km 193.6, Urb La Reserva de Marbella

The three-pearl VIME La Reserva de Marbella offers a basic stay on a family-oriented complex with 145 apartment-style units. It’s a peaceful setting with indoor and outdoor pools and lovely landscaping, but it’s isolated with few restaurants and no beaches within reasonable walking distance. All-inclusive packages are available at the buffet-style restaurant and poolside bar, and there are supervised kids' activities during high season. Guest units are comfy duplexes with full kitchens and terraces. But, reviews are mixed on units' upkeep and cleanliness, and the decor throughout is dated. Rates here are attractive, but it's worth considering the (moderately pricier) upper-middle-range Princesa Playa Hotel Apartamentos, which offers clean and spacious apartments with kitchenettes, and a beachfront location just a five-minute walk from Marbella’s Old Town.
