Sotavento Club Apartments
Calle Torrenova 34, Calvià

Sotavento Apartments is a relatively small but very popular three-pearl resort with apartment-style units that mostly draws young British teens and twenty-somethings here to party. A chilled-out, beach-club vibe pervades throughout, particularly around the attractive pool with whirlpool tubs, resident DJs, and regular pool parties. It's also a quick five-minute stroll down to Magaluf's rowdy party strip, although the steep hill back up is a struggle for some. The 72 one-bedroom apartments are modern, clean, and good for groups, as they sleep up to six, though expect a charge for Wi-Fi, and there's a damage deposit at check-in. All in all, it's a fun and funky hotel at the top of its game. For travelers seeking spectacular sea views and a mellower atmosphere, Hotel Florida wins hands-down.

HSM Don Juan
Calderon de la Barca 4

The HSM Don Juan is one of the smaller, two-and-a-half-pearl, resort-style hotels located in the notorious party resort of Magaluf. Set on the scruffier fringes of town, surroundings are quiet while still within easy reach of the long sandy beach and lively nightlife. The 182 guest rooms are hardly modern and fairly basic, but pleasant enough, with most offering pool-view balconies. Some past guests have complained of noise due to thin walls. A pool terrace is generally quiet and sunny, with low-key animation and poolside snacks, while the buffet restaurant is surprisingly good. All in all, it's a decent-enough compact package for the money, though for an adults-only budget stay take a look at the Hotel Florida with superb sea views -- though no air-conditioning.

Melia South Beach
Avenida Notario Alemany, 1

The four-pearl ME Mallorca is a party-oriented hotel with a stylish vibe reminiscent of an Ibiza beach club. While this might seem at odds with its Magaluf location, the hotel is located in the quieter and more chichi south end of the resort's wide sandy beach. The 252 sleek rooms are well outfitted for pre-club preening, with plenty of mirrors, bathrobes and slippers, and luxury toiletries, plus extensive minibars and Bluetooth speakers. Suites add soaking tubs with sea views -- though most sea-facing rooms are prone to loud music until late. While the main pool is adult-only, there's a pleasant family pool with separate splash pool and seasonal bar. The upscale Sol Wave House Hotel provides an excellent alternative, as it has wave pools and suites with kitchenettes.

Sol Katmandu Park & Resort
Calle Galeon, s/n, Calvia Beach

Hands down the most kid-friendly hotel in Magaluf, the Sol Katmandu is located inside the Katmandu Park -- a wonderful theme and water park. Guest get free unlimited access to the park. There are also three excellent kids’ clubs, three pools, daily entertainment for all ages, and several dining options. However, all-inclusive rates do not apply in the park’s restaurants and bars. The 404 guest rooms are simply decorated and equipped with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and furnished balconies. The location, in the heart of the wild party area of Magaluf, may not be the best for families, though the beach is a short walk away. Families looking for a slightly quieter atmosphere may prefer Sol Guadalupe, which offers discounted rates to the Katmandu Park.
