NH Madrid Ribera del Manzanares
Paseo Virgen del Puerto 57 Arganzuela

The NH Ribera Del Manzanares is located in a quiet, residential part of Madrid. This 224-room property offers river views along with modern rooms decorated in soft tones. Light wood floors, nice bathrooms, and bright lighting all give the rooms a contemporary feel. Amenities include flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. There are a few hotel features, such as a decent-sized fitness center with modern machines, a small business center, and an appealing restaurant and bar area. While the surrounding area is mainly residential and there isn't much within walking distance, the nearby riverside parks are a big draw for both visitors and locals.

Hotel Unico Madrid
Calle Claudio Coello 67

A luxury boutique hotel in the well-heeled Salamanca neighborhood, the Hotel Unico is one of Madrid's most refined and exclusive stays. The unique and modern design of the hotel stands out with colorful art pieces, exquisite and one-of-a-kind marble tile, and elegant contemporary furniture. Rooms have Jatoba wood floors, high ceilings, large windows, iPod docks, and luxurious marble bathrooms -- though some get a little street noise. The hotel's restaurant, Ramon Freixa Madrid, is a local highlight, a Michelin-starred institution with an outdoor terrace in warmer months. There's also a state-of-the-art fitness center, wellness center with massages and beauty treatments, library outfitted with art books, and perks like iPads, laptops, personal trainers, and personal shoppers by request. There’s free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, and free breakfast and parking are included in certain packages.

ICON Wipton

The Icon Wipton is a 61-room boutique in the upscale Salamanca neighborhood. Located near designer boutiques and fine dining, this property has spacious, contemporary rooms with big windows, flat-screen TVs, and cool glass-walled bathrooms with photo prints. An old wood and wrought-iron elevator brings guests up to the minimalist rooms, accented with small pops of color and large photographs. Hotel perks include free loaner bikes, king beds (a rarity in Madrid), free Wi-Fi, and family-oriented amenities. The breakfast room has exposed brick, vaulted ceilings and some rooms have a Juliet balcony and bay windows. But some may not like the lack of bathroom privacy, and breakfast is on the pricey side.

NH Alonso Martínez

The NH Embajada is located in a historic building with classical exterior architecture in the Bilboa neighborhood. This property was converted from an apartment building into a hotel, and offers 101 spacious rooms with big bathrooms. They're clean and have plenty of natural light, along with small flat-screen TVs, minibars, and work desks; some have French balconies. The biggest hotel perk is an expansive breakfast buffet, typical of the NH chain.

NH Madrid Zurbano
Calle Zurbano 79-81 Chamberi

The 257-room NH Zurbano is a stylish upscale hotel located a 15-minute metro ride from attractions and the financial district. Stylish, contemporary rooms have a fresh white and aquamarine palette, great amenities such as free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and minibars, and spacious bathrooms with large rain walk-in showers. The restaurant serves a varied breakfast buffet and international cuisine in a cute minimalist dining room with street views, and the lobby bar has a quiet atmosphere and a decent drink menu. The on-site fitness center is small and a little basic, but guests get discounts at a nearby high-end gym complete with a spa and tons of group classes. For a little more, the neighboring Hesperia Madrid offers Michelin-star cuisine and more in-room amenities.

NH Madrid Balboa

The NH Balboa is a solid chain hotel on the northern edge of fashionable Salamanca. The hotel has a contemporary feel throughout, and features a cozy lobby and computer lounge. Rooms are clean and fresh with flat-screen TVs, wood floors, and minibars. Single rooms are very small, but do have a work desk. Bathrooms are updated, although some rooms have small shower stalls with somewhat frustrating doors. Beyond the computer lounge, the hotel has a small fitness room and an extensive (but pricey) breakfast buffet. Upgrade to superior rooms in this value hotel for in-room coffeemakers and iPod docks.

HRC Hotel

This small mid-range hotel is a good value given its central location, within a short walk of many major attractions, bars, and restaurants. Its 38 rooms are compact but clean, and feature modern amenities, including flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and stocked minibars. Many units have views of the beautiful San Francisco El Grande Basilica, and rooms on the top floor have pleasant terraces with expansive views. The hotel is light on amenities, but the on-site cafe is popular with guests and non-guests for its inexpensive breakfast options, and its restaurant serves a varied breakfast buffet in a sunny room with lovely basilica views. Rooms have a little more polish than those at other centrally located mid-range hotels, such as BEST WESTERN Hotel Los Condes and Espahotel Plaza de Espana.

NH Madrid Ventas
Calle Biarritz 2

The 199-room NH Madrid Ventas is a stylish upscale hotel located a five-minute walk from the famous Ventas bullring and two metro stations. While not in the heart of the city center, the hotel offers a few perks that properties located closer to the action generally lack, including a pleasant garden with a seasonal pool, on-site parking, and quiet nights. Stylish rooms have contemporary all-white decor, wooden floors, and great amenities such as free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and rain showers. Standard Rooms are a little compact and lack coffeemakers, but all have large windows that add some visual space. The restaurant serves an excellent breakfast buffet and a la carte lunch, and the bar terrace is a favorite among guests on warm days for a quiet drink. The Holiday Inn Madrid has similar rates, but the NH Madrid Ventas is more stylish and offers easier access to attractions.

NH Madrid Atocha
Paseo Infanta Isabel 9 Front to Atocha train station

The 68-room NH Sur is one of the more barebones options in the NH chain: There is no pool, fitness center, or full restaurant. However, it nonetheless offers solid value in a convenient location -- across the street from a major train station and within walking distance of numerous sights. Standard rooms are basic and small, with tired bedspreads and somewhat hard mattresses. All have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and Wi-Fi access (at an additional fee). Wi-Fi is free in the lobby and business center. The breakfast room provides guests with a buffet of pastries, meats, and fruits, and bicycle rentals are available for exploring the city.

Hotel Osuna

The 169-room Osuna Hotel has a unique layout for a Madrid hotel. The property is motel-style with exterior hallways and a nice outdoor pool and patio area. Rooms are available in two categories -- a standard room or a bungalow -- with the bungalow offering significantly more space. However, decor across the board is fairly dated with old tube TVs and printed bedspreads, and beds are on the hard side. Bathrooms look slightly more updated, with marble shower/tub combos. The location, near the IFEMA convention center, is far from the main tourist sights, but near the airport. The hotel offers a free shuttle service from the airport as well as free breakfast, but there is a pesky fee for Wi-Fi. Additional perks include a bar and restaurant overlooking the pool.
