Best Western Plus Hollywood Hills Hotel
6141 Franklin Ave

The Best Western Plus Hollywood Hills is a renovated motel property with 86 contemporary-retro style rooms. This hotel's convenient and ultra-walkable location does its best to challenge the idea that travelers need a car to visit Los Angeles. Within a 15-minute walk, guests can find themselves searching for stars on Hollywood Boulevard, shopping at Hollywood and Highland, listening to live music or sipping cocktails at a nearby venue or bar, dining at area hot spots, or taking in the view of the Hollywood sign. The hotel also has an outdoor pool built inside a private courtyard, as well as parking, and it is attached to the ever-popular, late-night Cafe 101 diner. While the rooms certainly aren't as plush as at the higher category W Hotel, the Best Western Plus offers good value with better facilities than nearby independent motels.

Courtyard Los Angeles LAX/Century Boulevard
6161 W Century Blvd

This 187-room mid-range property is so close to LAX that guests can bypass the 24/7 free shuttle and easily walk to Terminal 1 in about five minutes. Business travelers will appreciate the hotel's proximity to several nearby conference venues and its utilitarian business center. Families and groups can spread out in large adjoining suites. And all guests can hit up the small gym or grab a bite in the Bistro Bar and Restaurant. This property is ideal for long layovers and early or late departures, but those traveling with an animal should check out nearby Sheraton Gateway Hotel, which allows pets.

Days Inn by Wyndham Hollywood Near Universal Studios
7023 W Sunset Blvd, Hollywood

The budget-friendly 72-room Days Inn Hollywood/Universal Studios has a pool and modern rooms equipped with microwaves and mini-fridges. The hotel is within walking distance of Hollywood attractions and nightlife. The hotel draws families, couples, and business travelers on a budget. For more Hollywood luxury, there’s the Loews Hollywood Hotel up the street directly on the Walk of Fame, but at a much higher price point. The Days Inn lacks a fitness center and full restaurant, but does have a pool and free breakfast.

La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Lax
5249 W Century Blvd

With 278-rooms on 10 floors, the La Quinta Inn and Suites LAX is a standard value hotel near the airport, attracting budget-conscious families and business travelers. It has four meeting rooms, a free airport shuttle, free American-style breakfast (which can get busy), a small fitness center with cardio machines, free Wi-Fi, an on-site restaurant and bar, and an outdoor pool. This hotel also caters to long-term guests living on-site. Rooms are contemporary in design, have flat-screen TVs and some natural light but have unattractive views. For all the same amenities -- plus more luxury -- there's the Hilton Los Angeles Airport, which is closer to LAX but has pricier rooms.

Best Western Hollywood Plaza Inn
2011 N Highland Ave, Hollywood

The prime Hollywood location is the outstanding feature of the Best Western Hollywood Plaza Inn, a standard budget hotel with 82 rooms. It has a modern (but small) restaurant and cafe on-site, 24-hour front-desk service, photocopy and fax services, a pool with stylish seating, and tours to family-friendly attractions and theme parks that leave from the hotel (for a fee). Rooms have large flat-screen TVs and natural light, but the furniture is a bit dated. The hotel is on popular and convenient Highland Avenue, but the area's heavy car and foot traffic can make for a noisier night's sleep.

Rodeway Inn Hollywood
6826 W Sunset Blvd

The 27-room Rodeway Inn is a straightforward budget motel in the heart of Hollywood. It's just a short walk from the Chinese Theater, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and other Hollywood Boulevard attractions, but the neighborhood can feel seedy. Rooms are moderately sized, bright, and clean, though the furniture is obviously not new. The motel has a small pool, (a somewhat meager) free continental breakfast, and free Wi-Fi.

Beverly Hills Plaza Hotel
10300 Wilshire Blvd

The 116-room, upper-middle-range Beverly Hills Plaza Hotel is in a central residential area on Wilshire Boulevard where many attractions are less than a 15-minute drive away. Although the common areas are upscale, with old Hollywood glamour, rooms are plainer in neutral tones. Mini-fridges, minibars, bathrobes and slippers, and Starbucks coffee are included in all rooms, while suites have perks like jetted tubs, terraces with seating, or fully-equipped kitchens. The full-service spa is a plus for guests and locals, and the on-site restaurant serves traditional American food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Outside there is a pool with gorgeous marble fountains and a small hot tub, in addition to a garden with koi pond. There are daily fees for Wi-Fi and on-site parking. Guests seeking a sleeker, more modern property with similar features, though no spa, could try Luxe Hotel Rodeo Drive.

Park Plaza Lodge Hotel
6001 W 3rd St

The 46-room Park Plaza Lodge Hotel is geared toward budget-conscious travelers looking for an inexpensive place to stay in Los Angeles near the Grove shopping center. The hotel is centrally situated and offers a casual restaurant and bar, an outdoor pool, and free on-site parking. Rooms feature traditional decor, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges, though some have outdated or worn furnishings. For more modernly furnished rooms, try The Farmer’s Daughter Hotel, but expect higher prices.

Inn at Playa Del Rey
435 Culver Blvd

The 21-room Inn at Playa Del Rey is an upper-middle-range bed and breakfast on the west side of LA that feels removed from the hubbub of the city. Despite its low-key vibe, the property is just under 10 minutes from LAX, and within a half-mile walk of great restaurants and the beach. Guest rooms are individually decorated in a classic New England style, and each has a flat-screen TV and iPod docking station; some have fireplaces, hot tubs, or balconies with views of the Ballona Wetlands. This homey yet modern property offers free hot breakfast, baked goods throughout the day, and evening wine and snacks. Free Wi-Fi, parking, and bike rentals are also offered. Interior and exterior noise can be an issue in some rooms.

Super 8 by Wyndham Los Angeles-Culver City Area
12664 W Washington Blvd

The 31-room Super 8 Los Angeles/Culver City Area provides a sunny California haven for budget-minded couples and families, with a location close to the airport and beaches. Surprisingly modern and fresh rooms feature Los Angeles photographs, flat-screen TVs, and wooden-beamed ceilings, though rooms close to the road can be noisy. The hotel offers a smoking patio, a seasonal outdoor pool, vending machines, and a breakfast room, and while there is a wheelchair lift at the pool and accessible rooms, the hotel lacks an elevator.
