Bayview Hotel
276 Las Dalias Street 1 Block From Larcomar Mall in the District of Miraflores

The no-frills Bayview Hotel has a great location in the Miraflores district, within a few minutes' walk of the waterfront and Larcomar shopping center. The 24 basic rooms have old tube TVs, but do offer comfortable beds, lots of natural light, and in some, furnished balconies. The restaurant, which has outdoor seating in a nice garden, is a highlight, and the cozy lobby has a big flat-screen TV. The cheap minibar items, multiple freebies (Wi-Fi, an adequate buffet breakfast, on-site parking, a Pisco Sour at check-in), and excellent location make this colonial-style hotel a good value.

Antigua Miraflores Hotel

Housed in a beautifully restored Spanish Colonial-style pink mansion in the heart of Miraflores, the Antigua Miraflores Hotel is a charming property, with tiled floors, wonderful woodwork, and lots of traditional Peruvian details throughout. The gorgeous common areas were renovated in the early 2000s but preserve the flavor of an elegant colonial residence, from the small but solid restaurant where the free breakfast is served every morning, to the tranquil courtyard. However, the rooms, though spacious and bright, are basic, with dated comforters, and can feel a bit musty. All in all, its location on a quiet street in hopping Miraflores is hard to beat, and the property's historic charm helps compensate for the average rooms.

Thunderbird Hotel J. Pardo
General Borgono 116, Miraflores

The 64-room Thunderbird Hotel J. Pardo is a simple upper-middle-range business property offering good value for money in central Miraflores, near shopping and dining. All rooms are large, comfortable suites with great beds, separate living areas with basic kitchenettes and dining tables, and clean bathrooms with big jetted tubs. Decor, though, is somewhat plain and dated throughout, and units on lower floors may get traffic noise. The restaurant serves average international cuisine along with local specialties such as ceviche and pisco sour in a light-filled room off the lobby, as well as a basic but free breakfast buffet. Other freebies include outdoor parking and Wi-Fi. Hotel Runcu Miraflores has lower rates and cheery rooms, and is closer to the waterfront area.

Mariel Hotel

The mid-range Mariel Hotel has a central location on the eastern side of the lively Miraflores district. All 40 rooms have flat-screen TVs, stocked minibars, and comfortable beds with fluffy duvets. Rooms also have air-conditioning and Wi-Fi, and 24-hour room service is available. The on-site restaurant serves Peruvian and international cuisine, and the lounge is a nice spot to grab a Pisco Sour at night. A good breakfast buffet is included in the nightly rate. Overall, this is a good pick for the location and the clean, appealing rooms.

Peru Star Botique Apartments Hotel
Calle Burgos 266-276, San Isidro

The three-pearl Peru Star Apartments Hotel is tucked away in a residential corner of Lima's cultural and financial hub, San Isidro. The hotel's 21 large, clean rooms are bright and homey, with kitchenettes and living areas in most rooms. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, though not all rooms have windows and most lack air-conditioning. Upgraded rooms also include a balcony/terrace with a view of the cozy neighborhood or the hotel's small pools. The hotel's Peruvian restaurant gets high marks from previous guests, but features here are otherwise limited. The Peru Star is a fine choice for families, as many of its units are apartments, but those looking to be closer to the beach may want to check out the similarly priced Runcu Hotel in the Miraflores neighborhood.

Antara Hotel
Alcanflores 450, Miraflores Miraflores

The Antara Hotel is a small 27-room property with an equally small (but attractive) lobby with Spanish Colonial-style decor. Even though the rooms are spacious with wood-burning chimeneas (some also have charming small patios), the decor is a tad dated and some furniture appears worn. The bathrooms have a slightly more modern look, and are clean with rain showerheads and polished granite countertops (plus Jacuzzi tubs in some). The property lacks in amenities (there's no fitness center or pool), but it does have a spa with great treatments, and its location in the heart of Miraflores -- within walking distance of parks, shops, and restaurants -- is a big draw.

Basadre Suites Boutique Hotel

The 20-room Basadre Suites is located in San Isidro, a quiet and safe neighborhood between hopping Miraflores and Lima’s Historic District. Rooms are basic but quaint and have some attractive decor details, and come with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges. The grounds are charming, with manicured lawns, a small pool, and quirky little fountains made of rock. Great freebies such as Wi-Fi and breakfast add to the value, but visitors looking for a more modern hotel may want to compare prices at the nearby Atton San Isidro.

The Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center

Opened in 2011, the Westin Lima Hotel is one of the newest and (with 301 rooms) largest hotels in the city. It's located on the outskirts of San Isidro, and though its focus may be on business travelers (it's home to the largest meeting facility in Peru) its upscale, resort-like feel appeals to others as well. The hotel features a top-notch spa, a sleek indoor pool, a large fitness center, and multiple dining options, including a chic bar and a restaurant with a popular breakfast buffet. The rooms have a mod, masculine vibe, with furniture in shades of brown, sleek lines, and modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs and iPod docks -- but some find the vibe taken a tad too far, as the dimly lit, sexy halls can be difficult to navigate.

Thunderbird Fiesta Hotel
475 Calle Alcanfores Miraflores

Though the first three floors of the Thunderbird Hotel are occupied by a 55,000-square-foot casino, the hotel caters to leisure and business travelers alike, with many guests coming here for extended stays. The 66 loft-style rooms each feature a kitchenette, a living area, and a powder room on the lower level, and a bedroom, a full bathroom, and a work desk in the lofted area. Because of the stairs, the room set-up may not be conducive to families with small children, and the decor and kitchenettes are a bit dated, but the indoor pool and fitness center are perks. The hotel also features a small spa with five nice treatment rooms, each with its own Jacuzzi tub.

1900 Backpacker's Hostel
Ave Garcilazo de la Vega 1588

The two-pearl 1900 Backpacker’s Hostel caters to budget travelers who don’t mind a bit of a divey atmosphere and dated decor in exchange for low rates and a walkable location. The dorms have bunk beds and lockers, while Suites offer flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and en-suite bathrooms. Dorms and Standard Rooms lack air-conditioning, have spotty Wi-Fi, and must share en-suite bathrooms. Decent amenities include a basic breakfast of toast and jam, free walking tours and cooking classes, a small bar, rooftop terrace, and public computers. For those who don’t mind spending a bit more money for privacy, consider the Bayview Hotel for free breakfast and parking, an on-site restaurant, and a Miraflores location.
