Holiday Inn Resort Lake George
2223 Canada St.

The upper-middle-range Holiday Inn Resort Lake George offers guests an excellent amenities package and a peaceful setting adjacent to Lake George Village and the lakefront. This clean and contemporary hotel has a large outdoor recreation area that includes a pool, whirlpool, playground, and putting green. Inside, features continue with an indoor pool, fitness center, video arcade, and kid’s play room. Rooms are spacious, if forgettably generic. But they're nicely equipped, with microwaves, mini-fridges, room service, safes, and Keurig coffeemakers. Families also appreciate the on-site laundry room and restaurant. Rates are competitive, but they don’t include breakfast and they spike on peak weekends. An attractive alternative with comparable rates is the mid-range Hampton Inn & Suites Lake George, which includes a free hot breakfast.

Fort William Henry Hotel and Conference Center
48 Canada St

The three-and-a-half-pearl Fort William Henry Hotel and Conference Center is a lovely hotel on 18 acres of property with Lake George views, a massive convention center, and a historic museum. The 193 rooms vary greatly from elegant to dated, so rooms in the Grand Hotel area are highly sought over the motel rooms. Upper-level rooms have mini-fridges and microwaves, while the mid-range rooms and motel rooms feature flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers. Amenities include two pools, a hot tub, three restaurants, a museum, conference center, and Wi-Fi and parking covered by a resort fee. There’s no spa or gym on-site, and some of the restaurants are seasonal. Travelers looking for a smaller, more intimate property could try the upscale Lodges at Cresthaven, with kitchenettes and a great lakefront location.

Scotty's Lakeside Resort
2896 Lake Shore Dr

Scotty's Lakeside Resort is a seasonal mid-range property situated on Lake George, just north of the Village of Lake George and within a 10- to 15-minute walk of the town center. The 106 simple, homey rooms are small, but many have lake views, plus all offer amenities like flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, and shared furnished porches. A nice beach area offers loungers, a beach volleyball court, and water sport rentals, plus there's an outdoor pool. The Beach Cafe and Bar sells casual fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Note that a weak Wi-Fi signal is a common complaint among guests here. For an alternative, check out the Comfort Suites Lake George, which offers more features like a fitness center, waterslide, and free breakfast -- but it's not on the water.

Hampton Inn & Suites Lake George
2133 State Route 9

The mid-range Hampton Inn & Suites Lake George offers everything fans of the popular chain like -- and then some. It sits on a quiet hilltop surrounded by woods, but it's only a five-minute drive to Lake George Village. Its 93 rooms are clean and spacious, with free Wi-Fi, microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. The bright and airy lobby has a bar -- rare for Hampton properties -- and a fireplace that adds rustic appeal. Other highlights include a free hot breakfast, an indoor pool/whirlpool, and a patio with a fire pit, but the fitness center is tiny and equipment is limited. It could pay to shop around as the lower-middle-range Quality Inn Lake George offers an in-town location and better rates during peak season.

Best Western of Lake George
2452 State Route 9n

The two-and-a-half-pearl BEST WESTERN of Lake George is a solid budget option in Lake George, about a five-minute drive or less to the village and to most area attractions. Its 87 comfortable and well-maintained guest rooms all come with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi, and suites with fireplaces and/or kitchens are available, but all have dated decor. Leisure offerings are extensive -- a seasonal outdoor pool, indoor pool and hot tub, free passes to a nearby gym -- and the hotel also features a free hot breakfast buffet that gets high marks from guests. However, there's no full-service restaurant on-site, and the hotel lacks an elevator. Travelers who want accommodations within walking distance of the village can consider Quality Inn Lake George.

The Lodges at Cresthaven
3210 Lake Shore Dr

Not for the budget-minded, this hilly 11-acre lakefront lodge will feel like a vacation home-away-from-home. All of the 50 or so two-bedroom units (which fit up to six guests each) are well-decorated with lodge decor; quality is consistent despite the fact that many are owned individually and managed by the company. Expect lots of wood and plaid, as well as fully equipped kitchens with stainless steel refrigerators. Other notable features include covered porches, jetted tubs, charcoal barbecues, and laundry facilities (stores nearby sell toiletries and groceries). The Boathouse restaurant and bar provides a break from eat-in monotony, and like the property, it closes each year from November to April. Kids can keep busy at the private beach and indoor/outdoor pool, and couples will enjoy peace and quiet in the off season. Daily housekeeping comes with a fee. Wi-Fi is free.

Quality Inn Lake George
57 Canada St

This 54-room property by Choice Hotels in Lake George is ideal those on a budget looking to stay close to the center of activity. A few extras, including friendly service and free breakfast make it a family favorite — large groups are welcome too, though pets are not. Pretty, well-maintained grounds surround the main event: the outdoor pool and hot tub. Meanwhile, an attached terrace has a fountain and fire pit, providing a touch of evening ambiance. Rooms are clean but have outdated furnishings, especially the carpeting. Despite these flaws in decor, all come with coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and plastic chairs in the exterior hallways. A small business center can be found in the lobby, as well as a small fitness center next door to the entrance. This property closes during winter months.

Comfort Suites Lake George
1533 State Route 9

This newer elevator building built in 2007 has 98 clean and comfortable rooms operated by two twin brothers, George and Mike. Hospitality runs in the family (their parents own another place next door), and guests will feel a sense of genuine warmth usually lacking from chain names. Though the location is not on the water, it is easy driving distance to Lake George, Glen Lake, family attractions, and outlet malls. Rooms have insulated walls, large bathrooms, mini-fridges, and microwaves (higher-tier rooms include jetted tubs and/or gas fireplaces). With the indoor pool, waterslide, picnic area, and playground, kids are often seen running around on weekends, but mid-week business travelers can likely appreciate the business and fitness facilities. Daily breakfast, included in price, offers hot and cold items. Wi-Fi is free.
