Grand Barong Resort
Poppies Lane II

Popular with all types of travelers, the mid-range Grand Barong Resort is a decent property in the heart of Kuta's action, set about a five-minute walk from the beach. The 139 rooms here are bright and mostly spacious, if a bit dated, equipped with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and desks. Most units have pool views (or even direct pool access), while those facing the lagoon pool can be noisy, especially in late afternoon and early evening. Features here include two outdoor pools -- each with a swim-up bar -- a full-service spa, and free Wi-Fi. Dining-wise, there are a restaurant with an extensive buffet spread every morning, a sports bar, and 24-hour room service. For an affordable getaway set along the beach, consider Grand Istana Rama Hotel Bali.

D Varee Diva Kuta Bali
Jl. By Pass Ngurah Rai Simpang Dewa Ruci no. 99

The 190-room Ibis Styles Bali Kuta Circle is a three-pearl, affordable chain hotel in the bustling town of Kuta, next to Mal Bali Galeria, a large shopping mall. This hotel isn't located on the beach, though the hotel provides a free daily shuttle to Kuta Beach. Rooms here are modern and feature flat-screen TVs, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and bright pops of color; some have lofted second bedrooms, but as rooms face internally, they're not quite private. An all-day restaurant, Bagus, serves a free buffet breakfast and Wi-Fi is free throughout. There are also a rectangular pool and adjacent bar in the courtyard. A small fitness center, spa, and meeting rooms round out the available features. The Kuta Seaview Boutique Resort & Spa offers nicer rooms across the street from the beach for higher rates.

Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel
Jl. Kartika Plaza

This upper-middle-range, 381-room hotel is located right on Kuta Beach next to the Discovery Shopping Mall.  Rooms and Villas vary, but all are clean and comfortable and some have private pools. Garden View Rooms can get noisy as there's a nightclub nearby. Features include a lagoon-style pool with a swim-up bar, a full-service spa/salon, fitness facilities, and three on-site restaurants. There's also a huge kids' club here, and the playground and dedicated kids' pool are fabulous. Adults can play too, thanks to tennis and squash courts, and a full-size chessboard.

Mercure Kuta Bali
Jalan Pantai Kuta 10 X, Br Pande Mas

The 130-room Mercure Kuta Bali is a mid-range property in the heart of Kuta, across the street from the beach. Decorated in a Balinese style, the rooms are simple but comfortable and each has a balcony or terrace, though furnishings could use an update. The hotel's stand-out feature is its rooftop infinity pool that has scenic views of the ocean. Additionally, the Alang-Alang restaurant serves all three meals, though food receives mixed reviews, and there are two on-site bars. Free Wi-Fi and parking, along with its central location near several hot spots, add to its value. The hotel is best suited for couples and groups who will spend most of their time outside the hotel and want to be close to the action.

The Bene Hotel
Jalan Benesari

This mid-sized, mid-range hotel located in downtown Kuta -- just a five-minute walk from the beach -- has clean, modern rooms with free Wi-Fi, and most come with direct access to, or views of, a central swimming pool. The hotel also has a full-service spa with a variety of treatments and an on-site restaurant with 24-hour room service. Interconnected rooms and suites are also available, making this safe and central hotel a viable choice for families needing more space.  However, some may find the music annoying, and there's no gym or fitness center.

Kuta Seaview Boutique Resort & Spa
Jl. Pantai Kuta

This 88-room mid-range boutique hotel is across the street from Kuta Beach, and close to several good restaurants and area attractions. Rooms are clean and comfortable, and come with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and air-conditioning. Beautiful Balinese tropical gardens line the grounds, and there is an outdoor pool with sun loungers and umbrellas. The beautifully renovated on-site spa offers a wide range of treatments, including aromatherapy, color therapy, and Ayurveda. Its Italian restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and is a good place to watch the sun go down while sipping terrific (though a tad pricey) cocktails.

Masa Inn
Poppies Lane I / 27

Masa Inn is a 314-room budget hotel located in downtown Kuta, a five-minute walk from Kuta Beach and 10 minutes from nightlife along Jalan Legian. The family-run property is nestled within a old-school Balinese compound featuring traditional architectural details. Features include two large swimming pools and a small breakfast restaurant, but little else. Rooms are affordably priced and spacious, and come equipped with air-conditioning, hot water, mini-fridges, TVs, and safes. Most rooms also feature balconies and have pool views. Decor and in-room features are dated, though, and include old tube TVs plus tired curtains and bedding. As an alternative, Dewi Sri features fresher rooms plus great facilities. The tradeoff? It's farther from the beach.

Waringin Homestay
Jl. Poppies I Gang Sorga no. 9

Waringin Homestay is a 22-room budget crash pad off Poppies II, less than a 10-minute walk from Kuta Beach and five minutes from Jalan Legian, which is home to Bali's largest nightclubs. The hotel is popular with surfers and backpackers on a shoestring budget, in Kuta to enjoy the beach and nightlife. Facilities are limited to a swimming pool and breakfast. Rooms have balconies, but are aged and worn. Most rooms are equipped ceiling fans and cold water, and you shouldn't expect TVs or safes either. However, higher-category rooms do add air-conditioning and hot water showers. Free Wi-Fi is only available in the lobby. For travelers with a bit more cash to spare, Kuta Lagoon Resort is a worthy upgrade, with more modern rooms and better facilities.

Febri's Hotel & Spa
Jl. Kartika Plaza,Tuban, Opposite Anvaya Resort

Febri's Hotel & Spa is a mid-range, 69-room family-friendly hotel located in the heart of Kuta. The hotel offers a rage of room types, including Family Rooms that can sleep up to five people comfortably. There are two outdoor pools, a full-service family spa, and a free hot and cold breakfast buffet. Wi-Fi is slow (even if you pay extra for the high-speed connection), and the property is not on the beach, but other than that, it's a safe, clean place to stay and is only 10 minutes from the airport.

Ibis Bali Kuta
Jalan Raya Kuta No. 77

This 156-room budget hotel located just five minutes from the international airport is convenient for travelers with long layovers or tourists looking to explore the Kuta area while saving on lodging. The property is right in the middle of the busy downtown area, with lots of restaurants and shops in the immediate vicinity. The rooms are small with tiny bathrooms, but clean and comfortable, and all come with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and air-conditioning. On-site facilities include a gym, a business center, and a restaurant with a free breakfast buffet, but there’s no pool and the beach is a half-hour walk away.
