Long Beach Chalet
472 Moo 3, Saladan

Long Beach Chalet is a small, rustic value resort located towards the southern end of Long Beach, Lanta's longest strip of sand on the island's west coast. There are 27 bungalows here, and standard accommodations are pleasant enough, with wooden floors, traditional thatched roofs, and hammocks. Sea View, Deluxe Sea View, and Beachfront Villas, added after our visit, are more luxurious. However, bathrooms are located outside of the rooms in some units (though they're extremely close and still private to each unit). Resort features include two swimming pools: one with a whirlpool and a waterfall and an infinity pool overlooking the water, plus a beachfront restaurant. It's also worth considering the Lanta Casuarina Beach Resort, which has a beautiful ocean-view pool and truly en-suite bathrooms.

Chaw Ka Cher Tropicana Lanta Resort
352 Moo 2, Long Beach, Saladan

Chaw Ka Cher Tropical Lanta Resort is a small garden resort that has cheerful and bright comfortable rooms of varying sizes, set amid a lush tropical garden and around a small swimming pool. The resort is just south of Koh Lanta's longest beach, the aptly named Long Beach, and it is a pleasant escape from the Lanta crowds. Accommodations here are in stylish bungalows with sloped traditional roofs; all have safes, mini-fridges, and TVs. In addition to the garden pool, there is also a small open-air massage area here for spa treatments. While the resort is not next to the beach and not close to other restaurants and shops, there is a shuttle run to the town and ferry pier each day, plus tuk tuk taxis and scooter rentals are available. It's a solid option for those seeking an affordable find -- as long as they don't mind being a half-mile from the sand.

Lanta Castaway Beach Resort
299 Moo 2, Saladan

The three-pearl, 22-room Lanta Castaway Beach Resort has a quiet location at the southern end of Long Beach. It's situated right on the beachfront, with huge daybeds for tanning and a beach bar serving cold beers and cocktails. Guests stay in cozy bungalows nestled amid lush tropical gardens, all with furnished balconies offering either sea or garden views. Rooms are simply decorated and equipped with modern amenities like air-conditioning, cable TVs, and free Wi-Fi. The beachfront restaurant serves Thai and Western cuisines in a casual setting, plus a free cooked-to-order breakfast that gets great reviews. Other facilities include a spa, tour desk, and dive center. Travelers with children may want to check out the Royal Lanta Resort and Spa instead, which is more central and has family-friendly facilities.

Twin Lotus Resort & Spa
199, Moo 1, Sala Dan, Klong Dao Beach

The Twin Lotus Resort & Spa is a large, adults-only beachfront resort with 76 rooms and bungalows on a property large enough that buggies are used to shuttle guests around. All categories of rooms are spacious and elegantly decorated, with DVD players and huge furnished terraces. The upscale resort sits toward the quiet northern end of Klong Dao Beach, and is close to Saladan town and the ferry pier for the mainland. Resort features include two swimming pools, two restaurants, a fitness center and spa, bicycle rentals, and a library with books and DVDs. While there are plenty of amenities, prices are high, especially compared to nearby resorts such as Twin Bay or Kaw Kwang.

Mook Lanta Eco Resort
343 Moo 2, Pra-Ae, Saladan

The Mook Lanta Resort is a small backpacker property at the southern tip of Long Beach on Koh Lanta, right by the beach. The resort offers 24 basic, traditional bungalows, some with thatched roofs. Standard Rooms are barebones -- with only beds, fans, and hammocks -- while the fanciest VIP bungalows have large fridges, TVs, safes, and plenty of room. The tiny resort is set in a tropical garden accessed by a raised wooden walkway, and there are no facilities here other than a small restaurant and bar. If you are looking for a no-frills, old-school Thai style lodging, it's about as cheap as they come on Lanta, and while this section of the beach is rocky and not too attractive, it's a short walk to better sand. Travelers could compare the Mook Lanta to the neighboring three-pearl Relax Bay Resort, which has higher rates but also includes a pool.

Twin Bay Resort
333 Moo 1, Saladan

The Twin Bay Resort sits on (not surprisingly) two bays, although the main part of the hotel is right on the northern end of Klong Dao Beach, two miles from the ferry pier and Saladan town. The beach here is not as nice as those further south, but it is much quieter and the resort does not have any neighboring hotels right next door. There are a variety of bungalows to choose from; all have mini-fridges, as well as spacious showers and patios. The best feature of the resort is its lovely beachfront swimming pool, with a small whirlpool and kids' section. Rates can be relatively pricey in the high season, but at least you get a bit more quality for your baht here than at neighboring properties like the Kaw Kwang Resort.

Fisherman's Cottage
190 Moo 2, Klong Khong Beach, Saladan

The Fisherman's Cottage is a tiny backpacker-style resort with some artistic flair, located about halfway down Koh Lanta's west coast in Klong Khong Beach. The beach here is not as nice as other beaches on the island (it's quite rocky with swimming only being possible at high tide), but this keeps the area quiet and lacking many resorts. There are only 10 simple bungalows here, a throwback to the old days on Lanta, and they are basic, although have some artsy touches, with outdoor showers and murals on the walls. There are no facilities other than the restaurant/bar, which has free Wi-Fi, but for those seeking a simple spot away from the crowds where hanging out with the owners and one's neighbors is ranked above amenities, this is a great choice, not to mention cheaper than most others.

MOONLIGHT Exotic Bay Resort
69 Moo 8, Ban Klongtob

Moonlight Bay Resort is a small mid-range property with 44 rooms set on the coast of tiny, rocky Khlong Toab beach, and is somewhat isolated from the larger resorts to the north and south. With only one other resort nearby, Moonlight Bay feels secluded and a bit wild, with the rocky shoreline at its doorstep. Rooms have well-maintained hardwood floors, plus terraces, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi; and the resort underwent extensive renovations in 2015, adding a new building with swim-up rooms. Beach Front Rooms have decks with whirlpools. Moonlight Bay has a spa with Swedish massage treatments and ancient Thai therapies, and a library. Moonlight Bay is for those seeking seclusion, but some may find the location inconvenient; it may also be worth considering the upscale and similarly priced Twin Lotus Resort & Spa, which has a better beach and better proximity to restaurants and shops.

Phra Nang Lanta by Vacation Village
139 Moo 5, Ba Kan Tiang Bay

The upper-middle-range Phra Nang Lanta is one of the nicer beachfront boutique resorts on Koh Lanta. Located in the far south of the island in sleepy Kantiang Bay, the 15-room resort sits right on the beach within walking distance of Kantiang's restaurants and shops. It's a 15-minute drive to the National Marine Park at the tip of the island and about a half hour's drive to the ferry pier and town of Saladan in the north. Rooms, with their bright blue-and-white palette, look as if they'd be more at home on a Greek island. The resort has a small swimming pool, a rooftop spa, and an elegant beachfront restaurant and bar. It's not as upscale as the nearby Pimalai, but neither are the prices, and it's a lovely spot for those who want a clean, cheerful, and colorful resort.

Relax Bay Resort
111 Moo 2, AO Phrae Ae - Koh Lanta

Located on the quiet Relax Bay, this mid-range resort provides an isolated escape from Thailand's other mega-resorts and high-rises. Its 37 bungalows set in jungle grounds or just off the peaceful beach have pleasant terraces with hammocks and mini-fridges, but they're basic in decor and lack TVs; plus most don't have air-conditioning. The main draw here is the beach, one of Lanta's most peaceful, and Relax Bay Resort makes the most of it by parking daybeds, cushions, swings, hammocks -- and their bar and restaurant -- right by the water. A small garden pool is also on the premises. For some, the location could be tricky, it's a solid 15-minute walk out to the main road and the parking lot sits up a long flight of stairs, but travelers looking for a no-frills remote hideaway will be pleased. Those looking for more up-to-date accommodations could try the neighboring three-pearl Lanta Castaway Beach Resort.
