Hotel Fleur d'Epee
49 Impasse Du Bas Du Fort

This 191-room, mid-range hotel has a central location near Gosier, a 15-minute drive from the airport and within a half-hour drive of most tourist sights. The sight of the waves crashing against the volcanic outcroppings out back is a highlight, but the hotel itself has seen better days, and shows signs of wear throughout room and common areas. The lobby is dark and looks slightly institutional, and the beach is small and mediocre by Guadeloupe standards. Rates are too high for what you get; Club Med La Caravelle, a 20-minute drive to the east, has modern accommodations and a bigger beach for similar prices, while the nearby La Creole Beach Hotel is comparable and often cheaper.

La Creole Beach Hotel & Spa
Pointe de La Verdure

The modern, 211-room, mid-range La Creole Beach straddles the line between business hotel and family-friendly vacation hotel, though plenty of locals have started coming for its beachside nouveau-Creole seafood restaurant as well. It's a sprawling, 10-acre property centrally located in Gosier, within an hour of most of Guadeloupe's tourist destinations. Clean, basic rooms are a bit disappointing for the price (and not up to advertised four-star standards), and most have French balconies with nowhere to sit. The pool and man-made beach are the main draws here, as are the large conference rooms. Most will prefer it to the nearby (more affordable) Hotel Fleur d'Epée, but those who want an all-inclusive experience should consider Club Med La Caravelle near Sainte-Anne. The hotel's pricier sister property, La Toubana, is more upscale and better suited for couples.

Auberge de la Vieille Tour
Section Montauban

This property was impacted by Hurricane Irma and Maria in September 2017. We will update our review as soon as we have more information. Auberge de la Vieille Tour is an upper-middle-range hotel perched on a hill above a small private beach. Beautiful seaside views are a true highlight. While its 104 rooms are fairly run-of-the-mill, all offer balconies or terraces with scenic ocean views. Features include a snack bar on the beach, a bar specializing in old rums, and a restaurant serving all meals -- including an international breakfast buffet (for a fee). An outdoor pool and a well-worn tennis court round out the on-site amenities. Everything is well-maintained, but it lacks a wow factor. Plus the many steps leading down to the pool and beach could be tricky for those with mobility issues. Travelers willing to pay moderately higher rates might prefer La Toubana Hotel & Spa in Sainte Anne, which has more modern rooms and amenities, including a gorgeous infinity pool.

La Metisse
66 Lot les Hauts de Saint Francois

La Metisse is a three-pearl boutique hotel located just outside the popular resort town of St. Francois. The hotel’s seven guest rooms are delightful and cozy, and all have private terraces overlooking the pool, which is set within enchanting, flower-filled grounds. Guests can opt for a continental breakfast of pastries and homemade jams served on their private terraces each morning, for a surcharge. While not exactly remote, the hotel’s residential location is a bit of a hike from the area’s beaches, dining, and entertainment. Travelers seeking a beachfront hotel might also consider Bwa Chik Hotel & Golf.

Bwa Chik Hotel & Golf
Avenue de L Europe

Bwa Chik Hotel & Golf is a three-pearl hotel located in the resort town of St. Francois on Grande-Terre. The hotel’s 54 guest rooms are bright and understated, and some are duplexes with separate living areas, sofa beds, and indoor and outdoor kitchenettes. The pool and continental breakfast are modest, but the hotel’s stylish decor incorporating recycled wood provides an eye-catching look. There’s no restaurant or beach on-site, but its prime location in St. Francois puts the beaches and dining within easy walking distance. Travelers seeking a hotel right on the beach might want to check out La Cocoteraie nearby.

Hotel Residence Golf Village
96 Lot les Hauts de Saint Francois

Hotel Residence Golf Village is a three-pearl hotel located outside the town of St. Francois on Grande-Terre. The hotel’s 56 guest rooms, which include studios and villas, are reasonably priced and practical, and most include kitchenettes; however, their dated decor (think flower-patterned bedspreads, sea-foam colored wicker, and white-tile floors) needs some serious updating. The pool is great and rates include a breakfast buffet, but the overall ambience is ho-hum. It’s a convenient base for a golf vacation, with the Golf International de St. Francois a short walk away. Free shuttle service to the beach and downtown St. Francois is available throughout the day -- both are at least a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Travelers may also want to consider Bwa Chik Hotel & Golf for more modern rooms and a significant upgrade in style for a slightly higher rate.

La Cocoteraie
Avenue de L Europe

La Cocoteraie is a three-and-a-half-pearl hotel in the resort town of St. Francois on Grande-Terre. The 52 suite-style rooms are beachy but chic, with large living areas and furnished balconies or terraces. With a picturesque pool, an inviting restaurant, and direct beach access, this hotel has a lot of potential, but frequent complaints of cleanliness issues are a letdown, as are the inconsistent hours of the restaurant and bar. Still, the hotel is quite stylish if you’re willing to overlook these details, and its central location puts guests within walking distance of the town’s dining and entertainment. Rates at Bwa Chik Hotel & Golf down the road are usually cheaper, and its facilities are better maintained.

Hotel Amaudo
Anse a la Barque

This 10-room, mid-range boutique hotel with rattan-furnished rooms in a plantation-style building is a hilltop oasis, offering a dramatic view of ocean waves crashing against the Guadeloupe shoreline. It's a solid choice for visitors who want to be near all the popular tourist sights in Grand-Terre but want serene retreat at the end of the day. In other words, the rambunctious need not apply -- folks who like the area but also want to rub elbows with other travelers may want to look into the Club Marmara Manganao, a few minutes' drive away. Note that the only beach within walking distance of Hotel Amaudo is strewn with debris, so those seeking a beachfront hotel should consider La Toubana Hotel and Spa outside Sainte-Anne.
