Sunset Hotel

Avalon Hotel
Stavros Bohali

The Avalon is an adult-only mid-range hotel situated on a hilltop overlooking Zakynthos town. The views are wonderful, with seascapes and coastal vistas unfurling from scenic points of the property, including the outdoor pool with massive sundeck and the lovely dining terrace. All-inclusive and half-boards plans are available here, and the property has a restaurant and bar on-site. A tennis court and mini-golf round out the features. Guest rooms are clean and pleasantly appointed, and all have private balconies -- but bathrooms are a bit small. It's around a 20-minute walk into town, so the property offers free shuttle service, which is especially helpful for the steep uphill trip back. Travelers seeking something in town might want to check out the Phoenix Hotel -- but note that it lacks a pool.

Phoenix Hotel
2 Solomos Square
The Y Hotel
3 Mykonou St., Kefalari

The Y Hotel is an upper-middle-range property in the swanky suburb of Kifisia, a 30-minute drive from downtown Athens. Though far from the capital, this leafy neighborhood is known for its upscale boutiques and restaurants, which the Y Hotel fits right into with its stylish interiors. The 43 rooms are elegant and their muted palettes seamlessly integrate modern amenities that include minibars, furnished balconies, and rainfall showers, although some are small. Outdoor dining is popular on the restaurant and bar's chic terraces and the free buffet breakfast with homemade cakes gets rave reviews. A small gym and meeting room are on-site, and massages can be arrange. Travelers looking to be downtown should check out Plaka Hotel, although rooms are more basic.

Theoxenia Palace Hotel
2 Filadelfeos Street

Upon arriving at the upscale Theoxenia Palace Hotel, travelers are greeted with the sight of a white mansion-like property with marble interiors and antique wooden furniture. While the classic style doesn’t appeal to all, it certainly creates an elegant atmosphere that attracts couples. Six meeting rooms and a business center bring in the business travelers. A seasonal outdoor pool and free breakfast buffet are enticing for everyone. The spa costs a fee to access. The 71 rooms are similarly sophisticated in terms of decor and amenities like smart TVs and minibars, however, with a lack of coffee and tea-making facilities and thin walls, it’s not as upscale an experience as it could be. Travelers could also consider the nearby Semiramis Hotel, a chic, youthful property with a pool that turns into a club-like space at night.

Coco-Mat Hotel Nafsika
6 Pellis

The Coco-Mat brand (formed in 1989) sells natural sleep products, such as innovative mattresses that do not need springs, and the Coco-Mat Hotel Nafsika was created to showcase its products. Guests should get a sound night’s sleep in the 22 sophisticated rooms at this luxury boutique hotel, which is located in Athen's ritzy Kifissia suburb. The healthy, airy Mediterranean restaurant with open kitchen and honesty bar is a highlight, and a gourmet breakfast is included in many rates. Though the hotel is not convenient for sightseeing, it is suited for business travelers who need access to the road system.

Semiramis
48 Charilaou Trikoupi Str.

The 51-room suburban Semiramis Hotel -- part of the YES chain -- is ultra-modern and decorated in lollipop colors. The design is extreme pop, with curves amid hot pink, lime-green, gold, aqua, and orange colors, with some industrial chic thrown in. The effect is young and playful, but the mix of colors, textures, and materials might not be for everyone. There's an outdoor pool (rooms include Poolside Bungalows), an all-day restaurant that morphs into a club-like lounge with a DJ at night, a 24- hour fitness center, business center, rotating art exhibitions, and free Wi-Fi throughout. Guest rooms mix colored concrete, neon signs, and rubber floors -- sometimes to the delight and sometimes to the chagrin of guests. Standard Rooms and even Superior Rooms, while efficiently compact, could do with more space.

Corinna Mare Suites & Studios
Peo Kissamou-chania

This upper-middle-range 49-room seaside resort attracts families and couples with its relaxing atmosphere, gorgeous views, and proximity to popular tourist sites in Chania. Large, modern rooms with separate living areas and kitchenettes distinguish Corinna Mare from the typical beach resort. Two pools and a well-reviewed restaurant are highlights, particularly the infinity-edge pool which appears to merge with the ocean. The hotel's rocky beach with rough waters is not ideal for all swimmers, but a two-minute walk brings guests to a more popular beach with calmer seas. Those looking for a resort with easier access to a sandy beach might prefer the nearby Ammos Hotel -- it has a brighter, more whimsical design but it's not as peaceful as Corinna Mare.

Meandros Boutique & Spa Hotel
Crystal Beach Rd

With modern rooms, a large pool and a great location right in the heart of scenic Kalamaki, the mid-range Meandros Boutique & Spa Hotel is an adults-only destination. An on-site restaurant offers Greek specialties in a buffet setting, and guests can opt for half-board dining options -- or explore a variety of nearby restaurants, bars, and local shops. The hotel is a 10-minute walk from the beach, or guests can use the free shuttle service. Free parking and Wi-Fi are also included. All rooms include a kitchenette and balcony; rooms near the pool area can be loud.
